A question I frequently think on about FFXVI is how do the Eikons and Dominants actually work? It is really strange, because it seems like not even the characters really know. Some people talk about Eikons "choosing" their dominant (which is funny, because does that mean Clive was not *always* meant to be Ifrit/Mythos? Ultima seems to imply he was born into that role), and they even call out to them, but there are characters like Dion, whom straight up refer to each Dominant by their Eikon name (he addresses Joshua as Phoenix, Clive as Ifrit, etc.) Another interesting thing is, that the Dominants seem to have personalities eerily fitting to their respective Eikons. Clive is impulsive, a fighter, and can be pretty destructive (but also warm and caring). Joshua is a healer, but also has that inner flame and fight. Jill is stubborn and relentless, cruelty is also not foreign to her ("cold" like ice). Dion is proud with a fragile ego, but very selfless (we all know Bahamut). I kind of like the idea, that Dominants are manifestations of their Eikon/element, and Clive just gets access to their divinity once they "transfer" to him - that would also explain why he gets the memories of the Dominants as well.
