been thinking about different characters having names from different languages.
Numen seems to be latin
Black Knife set
The assassins that carried out the deeds of the Night of the Black Knives were all women, and rumored to be Numen who had close ties with Marika herself.
assuming the Numen connection is true, we know of two named Black Knives: Alecto and Tyche. Both greek, close enough to latin.
Then the name of the one confirmed Numen, Marika, seems to be of hungarian and greek origin (x)
So one could say the Numen are associated with greco-latin names ...
Interestingly enough, greco-latin shows up in several other names:
Divine Bird Warrior Ornis (bird)
Karolos / Olivinus / Hierodas / Lazuli / Haima (conspecti)
Raya Lucaria / Caria
Caelid / Caelem Ruins (pertaining or descended from the sky)
Altus Plateau (high)
Farum Azula (blue lighthouse)
... and probably more
just saw a centipede if you even fucking care
unironically i love doing the dishes as long as i have a good album to listen to
cinematically and aesthetically speaking, 1917 is cinephile spank bank material, truly. I also found myself staring at George Mackay's hands and losing track of events, had to rewind more than once :') I am also pretty sure a puppy dies somewhere in the world every time someone watches Tom's death scene, I know I died inside. As intense, sad and mournful as it was, I already want to watch it again. Now excuse me as I go through your 1917 tag—
YOU WATCHED IT!!!! And you...loved it?! EFFERVESCENT! It TRULY IS a cinematic masterpiece—profoundly touching, beautiful to look at, magnificent in every way (I shan’t go on a diatribe, not this time, but oh I could, and I have). I highly recommend listening to the original score over and over until your soul leaves your mortal body and reading the screenplay , both are absolutely exquisite and add untold depths to experiencing the story. And yes, George MacKay is a fucking life ruiner with his massive fucking hands, I am in love with him and Schofield and I am not taking constructive criticism on the matter.
Please enjoy the hell out of my tags, and do explore the 1917 tags on AO3 if you’re in the mood—there are so many awesome fics, including several written by yours truly (one of which I am about to update) (and there’s also a zine!). Gahhh I’m so glad you watched 1917, and over the damn moon that you shared your thoughts on this glorious film (one of my favorites in years!) with me! 🖤🖤🖤
