I put them on the shelf before I remembered to take pictures, but here’s my latest ceramic progress.

First photo is of a wobbly lookin vase I threw on the wheel. It’s tall, skinny, and shaped into multiple rounded sections with a couple of parts sticking out more like rims. Around it are a couple other small clay pieces in floral shapes.

Second photo is of two larger ceramic flowers and a small model for an eco district monument project. The photo doesn’t show it very well, but it’s a round flat base with holes in it where I’ve pressed a few tiny bisque ware benches so they’ll hopefully fit onto the base after it’s also been fired. In the center is a pillar made of a few curling slabs with spikes on them, and on two sides I’ve put tiny signs that say "do not sit" but the "not" is crossed out.

The ceramic projects I’m working on are a skills assignment to make a sculptural piece of 25 parts, for which I will use the vase and flowers and some other pieces I haven’t made yet.

And the monument project, which is just to make a small scale "monument" relating to our eco district class work. I’ve made my focus covered benches to combat hostile design. So for this piece, I’ll have a circle of benches surrounding this hostile architecture pillar, and then for a cover I’ll use a straw and some painted paper in a cone shape as the umbrella. Hostile design will hold up the cover that makes these benches good to sit on in any weather. The signs say "do not sit" but the "not" is crossed out. Hostile architecture is deliberately designed to displace homeless people. Benches with bars on the seats that discourage sleeping, benches built more for leaning on than actual sitting, under bridge areas and store window fronts covered in spikes. Instead of putting money and effort towards helping people, hostile design just displaces them.
