100 years quest makes me mad in a lot of ways, and one of those ways is how edolas was written. there was absolutely no reason for it to be included other than to exist as pure ship-bait. (spoilers ahead, obviously)
edolas nalu are together? nalu bait. it didnât even do anything for the development of earthland nalu, it only existed to further bait the shippers into thinking mashima would actually canonize his main moneymaker.
edolas gruvia are together? okay, thatâs⌠great⌠but it doesnât make sense. and why is edojuvia, who was an absolute badass back in the original series, edograyâs housewife now?? edolucy at least retained some aspects of her original personality despite settling down, and yet, edojuvia didnât. and i hate it. justice for edojuvia đ
and by FAR the worst offender is edolas jerza, which⌠is genuinely terrible in every way. if you told me knightwalker and mystogan were canon before iâd read 100yq, i wouldâve assumed (a little too hopefully) that theyâd have the prince x knight dynamic, since⌠in a better story, they wouldâve. but no. knightwalker became mystoganâs obsessive maid and itâs horrible. girl, stand up, you used to be a war general.
it feels like mashima forgot the ultimate point of edolas was to be the opposite of earthland. i can excuse edo-nalu being canon, since they had chemistry in the original series and them getting together early would be the opposite of earthland nalu, but edo-gruvia and edo-jerza being canon donât make sense. earthland juvia is still as hopelessly in love with gray as ever (and iâm sure thatâs never changing), so why would edo-juvia also be?
and while yes, i guess edo-jerzaâs dynamic is different from their dynamic in earthland, it makes no sense as a dynamic that they would have in the first place after the setup in the original series. i know a lot can change in nine years, but the idea of knightwalker changing in that way just doesnât make sense to me.
team natsu visiting edolas literally did nothing other than offer ship-tease content. they didnât even do anything of note in edolas before going to elentear. reading this spinoff is so frustrating đđđ
