What are you teaching??
@muse-ful replied to your photoĀ āhow does one come up with discussion questions...ā
maybe make up statements with the most important parts of the subject and then transform them into questions?
hello friends i am leading a 45 min, once a week tutorial/conference section for english lit up to 1660 and this week we were talking (mostly) about beowulfĀ so i had to try to come up with coherent discussion questions about a poem that is heavily invested in like, digression as a poetic device? fuck me.
it went ok though! i spent some time at the beginning going over things such as how to cite poetry when writing an essay/response and the importance of avoiding simple summary... all topics im sure weāll be revisiting frequently over the course of the semester. and then we talked about gifts & gift-giving, and monstrosity & manners for a while until we were all tired and went home.
spring green and glossy grape!
Spring green: I have many relaxation techniques. Here are just a few. I cook! I love cooking food: the process of deciding what to cook, buying the food, preparing it, and then eating it is extremely relaxing. I have sex. That isnāt always an option for everyone with another person, but you always have yourself, and regardless, sex is extremely relaxing to me when Iām feeling too stressed to work/sleep/whatever. Finally, I drink. Perhaps not the most healthy relaxation technique, but it can be effective. I have a really great group of ppl here in my department, and basically whenever any of us needs it, we can go out (for coffee/alcoholic beverages/etc.) and talk through whatever is bothering us and how we should go about tackling it. Bonus: I also really like drawing, so sometimes I will draw things because the physicality of taking my mind off work and focusing it onto the act of putting pen to paper is really freeing.
Glossy grape: to be honest, I donāt know what to recommend to my followers because I donāt really know if there are any coherent similarities to my followers. But, I do love music recommendations so here are just two.Ā
1.Ā Dua Lipa is probably my favorite new female pop artist of 2017. I want you to consider how many altos youāve heard in mainstream pop music until nowāprobably very fewāsheās great and you should check her out.Ā
2. PRETTYMUCH: yāall know how much I like boybands. Check out Simon Cowellās new creation. Theyāre diverse, theyāre talented, they are happy-go-lucky anarchy at its finest!! Get ready for their debut album this year, it will be DOPE.Ā
Crayola Asks
you're gonna be in my powerpoint for class tomorrow hope that's okay :))))) (it's an intro slide and the only good picture i have of me at the agora is from 2014 lmao)
Omg thatās so great! Good luck on your first day of teaching, Iām excited to hear about how it goes! I am sure youāll be great :)Ā
28, 39 :-)
28: How many books have you read so far this year?according to my goodreads, Iāve read 6 books hahaha. though I think Iāve re-read a couple (which I donāt count on there), and obv Iāve done a lot of academic reading, which also doesnāt count. but on the plus side, I think Iāve enjoyed all the ones Iāve read!39: Name one of your favorite childhood booksOH BOY. I was like a human library. the one that came immediately to mind was The Witch of Blackbird Pond, which I was super into. also the entire Dear America fictional historical diary series! I know I reread those a million times.Ā

my fellow pots peep! peep is plural and idk what the singular is but like, that is probably more accurate but also probs a really weird word.Ā dude Iām not gonna lie, I regularly wonder what opinion you have of me, given the fact that you are one of 3 people who I was living with (in what is now my professional context) when I fell into the 1D rabbit hole, ahahahaha.Ā
all of the stuff that you post in re your research gets me excited andĀ Iām also super into the drinking horns as a concept that youāve got going on!!Ā Iām really stoked for you to be ABD soon so that we can chat abt diss stuff w/out 5million other things being more pressing in our lives and minds. (& also because being ABD is amazing and I want everyone in grad school to experience that relief)

eatpraydig replied to your post: itās amazing how many deities are born from...
not castration but this made me think of the birth of erechtheus. a similar indirect (?) impregnation of gaia
YES i knew there was something similar that i couldnāt remember!! itās very much like that. as you said, not castration, but itās still from a (somewhat? i canāt remember the details) non-generative act. well, maybe itās more of a halfway? like, in this instance, the fluid is semen, and it was expelled during the ejaculation that normally leads to conception. but it still needs the (sort of) gestation with gaia in order to conceive erechtheus.Ā
and thereās something to be said for athena being aĀ āvirginā goddess yet still in this way is considered an ancestor of erechtheusā line. i feel like, thereās a connotation of it being legitimized because of the specifically athenian/chthonic connection?Ā
āif youāre going to create beings from expelled fluid during a violent act of violation, THIS is how you do it!ā -athenians, apparently
....... isĀ āweird sex stuffā one of my academic interests?
