I felt mortified after I felt the warm arms of my girlfriend enveloping my body from behind. The warmth of his breath against my neck. He was no ordinary man, than a father to my child, my husband to be, my lover and my friend. Â If a stray bullet mightnât have hit him, it heâd still be here with me. Â My eyes wandered about the shiny body-suit covering his dead.
body. I could see his face from afar after I had arrived at the crime scene where I was told him and his friends had tried their luck at. Had told me about the crime they were going to commit and proudly called it âour mission.â An hour after they had a shootout with the police, my boyfriend whom my nannyâs mother had predicted he was going to be the next well-known township thug after his uncle, was lying on the parking lot, two metres from the automated teller machine him and his friend were set to blow with dynamites.
I didnât know how heâd have reacted if I told him the palm reader I had gone to during the week had warned me about a dark cloud that was hanging over him. I decided to keep quiet about it because he was of the belief that palm readers and all forms of fortune tellers he knew were witch doctors. Something which made his parents to be angry with him all the time. I got helped off the crime scene by my friends who I still donât know to this day how they got to be at the crime scene, or been at my bedside after my boyfriendâs passing and during and after his funeral.
First and foremost, my late boyfriend didnât know what to say when he knelt down before me and asked me;
âcould you please marry me.â
Iâve always wished to be swept off my feet but that night something in me told me to say no.
Yes, thatâs what I told him. And it wasnât because I didnât love him than want him to take a good look at his life. He once told me that there were three elements which makes a woman whole; style, self-respect and the truth.
His family love and respect me but Iâm wondering if itâs okay for me to have all the monies, house and cars that he left me.
