I'm sorry if you've already answered this and I'm pretty sure you have but I can't find the ask atm. I remember seeing a post about how the Ann(e)s aunts both died in the same time period and they were both in mourning for a year. I'm just wondering about specific dates for the deaths and so forth and anymore info on that period of the Ann(e)s life (how their relationship was and how Anne dealt with that). Thanks in advance 🙏
hey :) I haven’t answered this question, I answered two slightly different asks that had to do with the Ann(e)s families, one about Ann Walker’s family (how and when she lost her parents and brother) and one about what we could see in s2 of GJ and there I said that Anne Lister’s father and her aunt both died in 1836.
Anne Lister’s aunt died in October 1836, Ann Walker’s aunt died in October 1847 so their aunts didn’t die in the same time period. But yes, the Ann(e)s were in mourning for a long period of time after Aunt Anne Lister died.
Unfortunately there’s very little about the Ann(e)s after the 1836/1837 because no book has been published about that specific time period. Guess we’ll have to wait for that. There are just some extracts here and there but not much. From the companion book, this is what Anne Lister wrote about her aunt when she died: “She was always good and kind to me - none will ever think so highly of me - none was more interested in my interest - none”. I’m really curious to know more because that must have been a hard and interesting time for the Ann(e)s. Anne Lister’s father had died (April 1836) and so Marian had left Shibden to go to Market Weighton in May 1936, after her aunt’s death Anne was basically alone at Shibden, no member of her family with her, just Ann. That must have been hard.
For all the asks I answer about the Ann(e)s I’m trying to keep a clear thematic tagging system (hope this helps a little bit when trying to find things :) it will keep changing I guess as we talk about more stuff):
