For the asky thingy, Rose Tyler!!
Thanks for the ask! (And @kallianeira, too!)
It was so long ago that it’s hard for me to remember my first reaction to Rose. I basically fell into the DW fandom at random in, like, 2012 and I never looked back. At that time, I wasn’t big into British television in general, so I was used to a very sanitized Los Angeles white-teeth-perfect-skin-tight-clothes kind of aesthetic. Add in the early 2000’s fashion and styling, and I was just completely baffled by it all.
I kept thinking, “Oh my god, you can see her pores! This actress has acne! Her clothes are so baggy! Her mascara is clumpy as hell! This is wild!” but it wasn’t so much of a judgment as a relief. It was, My mascara clumps! I have acne! It felt like, “Look. Look at this normal girl - beautiful, obviously, but normal. She’s traveling in time and space.” I especially loved that there wasn’t this faux-poor New York City young professional angle to the show, either. She was just a working-class girl with a passion to see the stars. And I fell in love with Rose as a character even more quickly than I fell in love with Nine or Ten.
She’s the reason I watch (and re-watch) the show. She’s the reason I read and write fanfic. To be honest, Rose Tyler is the heart of Doctor Who for me, and I don’t make apologies for that. I know everyone gets something different out of the show, but she’s essential to my watching/reading experience.
Countless moments??? I genuinely could not choose, because every single thing she does is a joy.
Currently, a lot of my ideas tie into her meeting Eight, but I have a one-shot idea for her, Jack, and Nine finding the Creature from the Black Lagoon in the TARDIS (whilst skinny dipping!) and it just needs to be written.
Don’t make me choose between Nine x Rose and Ten x Rose. Please don’t make me. I can’t choose.
Nine x Rose was one of the first ships that I ever shipped. (Other than Delena, but please don’t get me started on Vampire Diaries, ever. Those were the Dark Times. I can’t think about them.) So, they have a soft and important place in my heart, and I’m constantly desperate to buy Nine and Rose more time together. But also, Ten x Rose has that fucking Billie and David dynamic that I’ve never seen replicated in any other media, ever.
I have two that I hold so sacred that they might as well be canon for any in-universe story I write.
1. Bad Wolf changed her biology. She’s going to live a looooong time. Plenty long enough to find her way back into the prime universe and meet up with, say, Twelve? Thirteen? Both? All???
2. She meets ALL of the Doctors while dimension hopping, even if it’s just for a moment. (She meets Eight. Vigorously.)
