I’m quite happy now that I found out about the MCAS before the current Dulera being backordered problem.
For those who don’t know, mast cells are heavily involved in asthma. It’s why asthma runs in MCAS patients.
The thing is I am on so many different mast cell stabilizing supplements that it is keeping me from going into a full blown asthma attack.
If I got to the point of needing albuterol via nebulizer, that’s the point where I pop into urgent care and try to get them to give me samples of anything I can take.
That’s another problem. Insurance companies (mine included), hammered by Covid, decided to cut back on medications covered. The problem here is dry powder inhalers and meter doses inhalers (MDIs) are not always interchangeable. I can’t have dry powder inhalers as lactose monohydrate flairs my MCAS for some reason. So when they cut Advair HFA and Symbicort, they left me with literally 1 asthma medication (how is that even bloody legal?). So when there is a stock issue, I’m essentially screwed.
I’m sure I’m not the only patient being screwed over by insurance companies only covering one MDI steroid/LABA inhaler, making this problem even worse.
