What fandoms do you write for?

Halo (mostly TV show but I've got a couple crossover ideas kicking around), the Honor Harrington novels, Star Trek, usually ds9 but some drabbles lying around for the others, Warhammer 40k, a little Stargate, Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan Trilogy, and a dabbling of Expanse, XCOM, Doctor Who, The Bad Batch, MCU Spider-Man, and a webcomic called Dumbing of Age.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

In order:

Swept Away by Time and Tide (henceforth SABTAT) a TNG-era Star Trek crossover with the Honor Harrington novels, featuring treknobabble, engineers from a world with much 'harder' scifi physics trying to puzzle it out, and pirates who have never had to deal with a full blown ship of war instead of a Fed patrol vessel. It's fun. There's a sequel vaguely in the works but. time. and energy. and keeping track of two separate timelines, neither of which use earth standard calendars for anything more specific than the month if im lucky.

After the Mission (We Can Be Free), my 'Master Chief would not commit that war crime' episode eight ixit fic that has spiraled into a full on CE rewrite featuring events and characters from the show. It was supposed to be a oneshot, and then it grew legs and hijacked the AU Warthog

Testing a Hypothesis, SG1 ficlet (barely 500 words and nearly as many kudos as both of the above longfics, #smallfandomproblems anyone?) in which Sam rememebers Jack dip-kissing her. Just a fun little thing, nothing too serious

TECHNICALLY Two Broken Souls is number 4, but I'm not convinced that that one didn't get hit by the Kudos bot, because it's 3000 words of mini ship ficlets for JohnMakee and has 43 guest kudos. So I consider the ACTUAL number 4 to be Contact, a Tech/Phee pre-relationship fic set after 2x13 Pabu. Originally named 'Tech the OSHA Inspector' in my wip folder but the fic evolved on me so it got a new title.

Forget m Not (Hold On Just Remember), an MCU Spider-Man NWH fixit I haven't updated in over a year because the MCU fandom is intimidating actually and I've lost steam to work on it. I want to finish it eventually because I enjoy the premise (Ned training to become a magician helps him and MJ recover their memories which leads to them and Peer eventually reuniting) but the first act is something I'm stuck on.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I TRY to but they get away from me because brain go brrrr. I have been trying to force myself to reply to comments before posting a new update though. Unfortunately, this trick doesn't work so well when someone binges your 26-chapter-plus multichap and comments on every single chapter with one-to-two sentence comments. Which I love, don't get me wrong, but then aaaaaaa brainRAM loads to actually respond to those become astronomically high and Big Inbox Number intimidating

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I was going to talk about a planned ending but then I remembered that Laws of Motion exists, which is one of two fics I've written with Major Character Death. Tech contemplates the nature of the laws of motion after his fall from the tram. It has... an extremely arresting ending.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

'Happiest' ending is Shielding Experiments (hur hur hur, ilikepuns), but in terms of 'fic completed, happily ever after?' I think it's An Officer and a Gentlewoman, given it starts with a marriage and ends with a commissioning ceremony with all of Kai's family there.

Do you get hate on fics?

Not often. I've gotten a hate comment on SABTAT that basically boiled down to 'this is stupid star trek should annihilate honorverse!' from a tech perspective but that comment got nuked cos in this fic universe I am the Beginning and the End and I say both technology sets are equally powerful at different things. It got me down for a bit but then I remembered 'hey i can delete comments!' and 'you come into my house?' and took care of things. only real instance i can remember, I'm generally in pretty chill fandom groups

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Oh boy do I. Slowly, but it does get written. It turns out that I think a good chunk of what I have written (not necessarily published though) is femslash (like the aforementioned Shielding Experiments, and I have at least two more Kaiyes smutfics planned/drafted) but the first smutfic I published to Ao3 was Aftermath, which is an Honorverse Hamish Alexander/Sonja Hemphill hatefuck fic that led me to start shipping them unironically.

I also have Unions of Machine and Nerve, which is a VERY unconventional cyborg-sex fic for Warhammer 40k: Mechanicus. Had fun writing it, extremely niche audience.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I do! SABTAT is a crossover, but it's fairly tame in that they're at least both sci-fi and I'm treating both science systems seriously. My zaniest crossover is Sapphic Seminary Shenanigans, aka 'shove one greysexual woman, two pansexual women, and three lesbians into one college apartment. Garnish with bisexual floor coordinator. Watch the chaos." It's an excuse to shove as many blorbos as I can into a college AU, pretty much. Very self indulgent.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I have gotten a comment in another language which suggests someone at least ran it through google translate

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not in a 'two creators on AO3' way, no. I've had significant beta-edits done before, and had fics directly inspired by other people (ATBNL, I'm looking at you here XD ), but I don't think those are the same thing. I don't know that I ever will, either, I like my creative control too much.

What's your all-time favorite ship?

points at avatar. My blorbo beloveds Julian and Jadzia.

What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Of a 'WIP' that's posted to AO3, probably Forget me Not (Hold on Just Remember), mostly because I lost a LOT of momentum since July 2022 and havent gotten it back

What are your writing strengths?

dialogue and action. Perks of being a mainly visual fandom writer you can get voices and other visual effects pretty well fixed in your head. Also internal trains of thought

What are your writing weaknesses?

Set description, mostly, and writing quickly. I can do it, but only very rarely. Also, for as much as I like to try and juggle them, I'm not superb at handling long plotlines. Outlines mean nothing half the time cos the characters disrupt them, and the other half the time I just invent new things that have no prior backing and then oops I have to Deal With This Plotline now like a kitten i found in the hood of my car.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Haven't done it a lot (usually just do italics) but now that I know Halopedia has a TV show Sangheili dictionary it's all over for my peeps in the Halo show fandom

First fandom you wrote for?

The Leviathan Trilogy. It's on my FFN if anyone cares to go digging for it but it is very much a product of me as a young teenage writer who didn't know what he was doing. My more recent work for it, In Sanguis Veritas, on AO3, is MUCH better in my opinion.

Favorite fic you've ever written?

Hm. Tough one. SABTAT was fun, and proof that I can in fact write a longfic satisfactorily, but I think Beaches of Chi'tar has to get my overall top pick. Julian/Jadzia, happy ending despite the title being based off of an extremely sad Garth Brooks song (what can I say, I like me some Garth and the song title doesn't necessarily suggest the content of the song), getting together, thanksgiving-themed slash family reunion themed (so topical, actually, with Thanksgiving coming up this week!), and pastry. Plus Tril culture. so yeah.

Anyway I could have spent the last hour trying to wrap up potluck fic but instead i did this. oops? XD

1. what's the fic youre most proud of?

I'm going to cheat and pick two, lol: - Swept Away by Time and Tide was my first completed longfic, and was proof that I could make. it. happen. - After the Mission (We Can be Free) is now longer than it, nowhere near done, and my most complex work yet. SABTAT is the fic that walked so that AtM can run out of control, with me stumbling after it telling it to 'slow down, dangit! You were supposed to be a oneshot!' whilst scribbling it down. I'm prouder of this one, too, because it continues to be proof that not only was SABTAT not a fluke, I'm a better writer than some professional showwriters. Is this arrogance? Perhaps. But I know for a fact they made some stupid decisions, which I am now fixing

4. what fic of your own do you read for comfort?

The closest thing I have to pure comfort fic is Beaches of Chi'tar, a drworm getting together fic that technically exists within a DS9 SIOC fic but essentially doesn't need it. It's Julian and Jadzia getting together. It's a Trek Thanksgiving. It's a moonlight kiss. It's family being amazing. I don't reread it a lot but I know for a fact the author knows exactly what I like when I do :D

12. What’s your perfect environment to create/write?

1: who sleeps/sits in the middle?

Given Dax tends to live inside of Jadzia it's a bit complex, but proper ritual can let them transfer hosts for a short period so sometimes they'll do that and have Dax go into/around Julian and then he's cuddled in the 'middle' next to Jadzia and with Dax sort of manifested/wrapped around him

12: who has to kill the spiders? And who refuses to even get near them?
