A roar echoes from above them and Dream startles so badly he nearly falls off of Spirit, grabbing their mane and trying to force them even faster. The sound of wingbeats thunders behind them, so loud it's as though a storm is approaching them both, despite how clear and dry the night air is.
"Come on, come on," Dream whispers, trying desperately to make it to the trees, to get to the beach, to somehow get away from here, praying that he and Punz can make it beneath the tree cover before-
The ground shakes as a dragon slams down onto it, wings still extended to break his fall as Sapnap lands in front of them both, eyes blazing with fury and smoke leaking from the corners of his mouth. Immediately the horses balk, whinnying and rearing with fright at the sight of a massive predator before them, skidding to a halt no matter how much Dream and Punz grasp at their manes and sides.
"Dream!" Sapnap's eyes immediately soften the moment he spots him, and in an instant he's bounding across the salt flats to his side, skidding to a halt with wide, relieved eyes. "You're alright!"
