Pictured: the table mid assembly (there are two cheeses, and we ended up with 7 bc H and I had the brilliant idea to implement a BYOC policy and our friends really showed up)//a festive bun//gournament crafting (H and I have been obsessed with gourds this fall and they make SUCH excellent ornament crafts, wow)//my three gournaments. I was a big fan of the drill and woodburner, and just kinda kept things natural altho the gourds really lent themselves well to all media and decorative sensibilities.
Tonight H and I threw our 4th annual DreamFlat Christmas party and it was really lovely. We had fewer people than in past years, but the abundance of cheese and super successful crafts really made up for it. I say this every year, but I am so grateful for the group of women I’ve met in grad school, and how we try and make the time to gather together every so often to spend time doing things that are not related to work. It is truly a blessing.

Today I:
-ran some last minute errands for party #2 and avoided the worst of the snow
-successfully helped host the annual DreamFlat Christmas party at H&Al’s apt, otherwise known as The Household. It was #8 out of the 9 years we’ve been friends and this year W brought her toddler (! she’s not a baby anymore!) and it was just so delightful and delicious and I’m so happy with how much fun I had

H and I have done a Christmas thing in 7 of the now 8 years we’ve been grad students together. There is always a craft component, and we even got together masked to make postable paper crafts to send to our friends in 2020. We were both only in the states for a couple of weeks last December/January so we missed last year, but we brought it back this year for what will probably be our final one, since I should be gone by this time next year.
It was only 4 of us total, W’s kid got sick at the last minute so she couldn’t make it, so it was our smallest party ever, but it was still really nice. We improvised our crafts this year which resulted in me confronting how out of practice I am at hot gluing things, but we made some cute ornaments and admired all the different ones we had made in previous years. The ones we made out of dried gourds in 2018 were definitely the best.
