August 14th: Star of Bethlehem - Purity

Redemption! Let it be known I’ve had this one-shot idea for ages but never had a reason or got around to doing it until now so hope you all enjoy it!

What am I doing here?

That was Faker’s continuous thought since the night started. One moment he had been in his lab working then he was suddenly grabbed by Kazuma and Tsuayoshi and found himself in an izakaya with them and Tron. When Faker asked Tron how he got dragged into this he simply stated that Tsunayoshi knew the owner and wouldn't say no to free food.

“My metabolism is atrocious in this body.” Tron huffed, biting a piece of his yakitori. “Not just in power but size as well.”

“Well you are quite small.” Kazuma smiled, sharing a glass of sake with Tsunayoshi.

“Tiny ball of sass, like a cat.” Tsunayoshi grinned.

“I’m not above using my powers on you two.” Tron deadpanned, making the two laugh. Faker sweatdropped while Tron huffed, finishing the yakitori before grabbing another. When Faker thought about it now Kazuma and Tsunayoshi were the more extroverted types compared to him and Tron but he supposed that's what made them so likeable.

“I should be working.” Faker began.

“You work too much.” Kazuma told him. “Even your sons agree, hence why Kaito helped us grab you.”

“He did what?!” Faker gaped.

“Haha! He came up to me and asked to take you too once he overheard our phone call.” Tsunayoshi laughed, downing his drink before refilling his glass. “Though we were going to do that anyway given how stubborn you are. Kaito just made it easier.”

Faker groaned, dropping his head on the table. He should’ve known his eldest son would plan something like this. After reconnecting with his sons they both made it a point to look after him on the physical and mental scale. And social scale as well it seems.

“I’d accept your fate if I were you, makes it easier.” Tron stated. Faker looked up at Tron, at his old friend Byron Arclight, who looked quite lax casually chewing his yakitori, unfazed by their friends’ antics…. Could he still call them his friends after what he did? Even though they have no reason to forgive him-?!

“You’re overthinking.” Tron deadpanned, after poking Faker’s forehead with the kabob stick.

“Ack! You didn't have to poke me with that!” Faker hissed, making Tron roll his eye.

“It's natural to feel unsure of your actions after committing atrocities.” Tron told him. “It doesn't get easy but in time you learn to live with them even if you don't believe you deserve a second chance.”

“... Is that how you felt?” Faker asked, making Tron smile sadly.

“Despite my appearance when I returned my sons still saw me as their father and I took advantage of that in order to make them my personal chess pieces in my revenge against you. I’ve always regretted it.” Tron sipped his drink. “Despite my cruelty they forgave me. I know I don't deserve it. I'm no fool. But if my sons still see some good left in me, the least I can do is live up to their expectations. I’m sure it's the same with your sons, right?”

Faker felt his throat tighten, looking down at the table. Despite learning the truth of Haruto’s situation, despite the turmoil he put his own son through as a Numbers Hunter, Kaito refers to him as ‘Dad’. Still risked his life to save him during the collapse of the tower and looks after him as well as Haruto. His son truly took after him in letting his actions speak for him. 

“... Heh just as wise as you’ve ever been Byron.” Faker chuckled.

“Well helps that I had someone talk, and wack, some sense into me.” Tron chuckled. Faker chuckled as well and just as Faker reached for his drink Tron was suddenly lifted in the air.

“Wha?!” Tron yelped.

“Nants ingonnyama bagithi baba…!” Tsunayoshi hicupped, lifting Tron in the air.

“The prince of pride rock!” Kazuma announced cheerfully.
