This is one of the old comics I had in my Mutant Spring Man AU that I had REALLY thought I posted before, but I guess I didn't!! It's from 2018 or so now, but it was one of my favs.
I know the main reason I probably didn't was bc I didn't want to bother breaking up all the frames like I normally do, so I'm sorry for that! Just sharing anyway!
Dr. Coyle has 4 arms that she made for herself mechanically that she can also have, but I'm sure Spring Man being an anomaly that literally just GROWS his own extra arms naturally would have been an intense interest of hers.
This is earlier on with his condition and when it gets worse and other doctors can't help, he finally caves and goes to her lab to see what can be done about it and she happily obliged (until she realized that meant having Spring Man around all her stuff all the time lol)
Spring Man headcanons! π§¬βοΈ Because he's a part of my Punch Out AU now... bc I said so
(warning: may or may not be deviating from canon ARMS lore for the sake of writing lmao)
Lore Stuff:
- Spring Man is originally from San Francisco, and that's where the ARMS Corp (the brand composed of ARMS lab and the ARMS league) headquarters is. The headquarters has multiple arena locations in different parts of the world.
- His mother, Dr. Coyle (this woman), had created the company after becoming a billionaire doctor from her patented stretch regulator masks. In her exploitation of the ARMS mutation, however, her ultimate goal was set: to create the ultimate ARMS fighter and exploit them for profit. Her motivation quickly turned from helping others with the ARMS mutation and educating the public, to earning as much money as she can from the trend.
- Spring Man was born to her and an unknown man, but the doc didn't want him, as she thought he'd get in the way of her ARMS corporation business and her scientific pursuits. So she gave him away to her brother (this guy), who just so happened to own the patented ARMS spring-gym near the ARMS institution.
- Now THIS guy was the original Spring Man of Spring Gym. See, "Spring Man" is just the name of the mascot of Spring Gym (Spring Man's real name is Jake, and the guy above is named Steel... as in, Steel Coyle.) and later in life when Spring Man got his ARMS ability and had trained enough, he was given the title of "Spring Man."
- Years went by, and Spring Man was not only still *the* Spring Man, but he was also the international champion of the ARMS league, beating out everyone else. It wasn't until the present did he learn more about his mother...
- Springtron, a robotic clone of him, led him down a rabbit hole in which he found out that Dr. Coyle was his mom. Of course, she wasn't a good mom... at all. His mom only contacted him once he became a champion, and that was because she wanted to start running experiments on him to help her goal to create the ultimate ARMS fighter.
- Heartbroken and not wanting to support his mom anymore, Spring Man fled the ARMS league, only saying goodbye to his best friend, Ribbon Girl. Using his small fortune as a championship ARMS fighter, Spring Man fled to New York, across the country away from his mom.
- It was very difficult to live alone, as he was a pretty sociable young man, and he was out of work... but eventually, he found out about the WVBA... good ol fashion boxing. THAT was what he wanted to do.
- It took no time at all for him to meet with Mr. Dream and sign a scummy contract, selling his soul to the WVBA in a desperate effort to recapture his ARMS league days.
- Nowadays, he's a WVBA boxer in the world circuit with the ability to stretch his arms out to incredible distances.
Actual Headcanons lmaooo:
- Spring Man and Little Mac are VERY intense rivals... they do NOT get along, despite both of them being talented fighters with family issues. Mac thinks Spring Man is just as much a cheater as Aran and the other boxers for being allowed to use his ARMS mutation during fights... as well as how Spring Man is jealous of Little Mac for being the WVBA champion, meanwhile he isn't a champion anymore.
- Meanwhile, Spring Man, a 20-year-old, is beefing with a 17-year-old, Little Mac, since he thinks he's a whiny spoiled brat who can't handle a different kind of "modern" challenge. Their fights are very intense, and Spring Man often joins the other boxers in teasing Mac.
- As for the other WVBA fighters, at first, they thought Spring Man was a freak of nature (Aran still does), but eventually, most of them became cool with Spring Man for his positive, sociable attitude.
- Spring Man is besties with Super Macho Man. Since they're both kinda the same "Cali himbo" archetype (although Spring Man is more gym-bro male millennial coded than beach alpha male coded), they were able to quickly bond and become friends.
- Von Kaiser likes Spring Man for his arms and is often caught heavily studying them. His arms are satisfying to play with too, but Spring Man barely let's Kaiser do so.
- Glass Joe thinks Spring Man is loud and obnoxious, but to a lesser extent than Super Macho Man.
- Piston Hondo also thinks Spring Man is a bit too much to be around, but he's sympathetic about his situation.
- King Hippo wants to eat his hair one day... if not frosting, then why frosting shaped?
- Disco Kid quickly became best friends with Spring Man, as expected, since they're both incredibly friendly, outgoing athletic men.
- Pizza Pasta eventually grew a strange attachment to Spring Man. Spring is a regular visitor at his pizza shop, and they get to talk often. To earn extra money, Spring Man even works there sometimes.
- Mr. Dream adores Spring Man, as he brings in lots of money for the WVBA whenever he fights.
Direct Spring Man headcanons:
- Ofc, he's a social butterfly. He doesn't know when to stop posting on social media for his remaining fans, but he will know when to shape up for a fight.
- His fave food in the whole world is pizza, specifically pepperoni with green and red peppers. He's been sponsored by multiple pizza restaurants, but his sponsorship with Pizza Pasta's restaurant has been especially successful.
- Watches a lot of sports in general, even outside of boxing. Knows tons of famous athletes by heart thanks to being an ex-champion himself.
- Himself and Ribbon Girl have been best friends since they started in the ARMS league. They do everything together, even design clothes (even if Spring Man is bad at it). He video calls her and the other ARMS fighters whenever he can. He misses her a lot... especially since the WVBA is full of guys.
- Spring Man is Omnisexual with a preference for women
- He still keeps in contact with his dad-uncle, Steel. Its his own Doc Louis... but its a shame Steel couldn't come with him to New York, as he has a gym to maintain.
- Kinda... dumb, in general, but it's an endearing kinda dumb. Needs to text Steel and Ribbon Girl constantly, and most of the time it's about extremely simple or silly situations he got himself wrapped up in. He barely passed middle school and got taken out of high school to train to be a Spring Man.
- Very excitable; when he's excited, he'll swing from the rafters or other hanging objects like a stimulated animal.
- Gets intimidated when people use his full name, "Jacob Coyle."
