Dr. Edward Wilson

On Scott's first expedition, Wilson was a junior doctor and keen amateur artist. He grew in Scott's esteem to become his right-hand man, and is reprising that role now as Head of Scientific Staff and official Expedition Artist. Spotting a fellow idealist and nature lover, he invited Cherry to be his assistant, and together they are responsible for the zoological record. Wilson sees science and faith as two sides of the same coin: his spiritual side is unknown to his colleagues, but they can sense his rock-solid foundation, and he serves as confidant, mediator, and role model to one and all, to whom he is known simply as “Bill.” For all his sincerity, he's no stick in the mud – he joins in the roughhousing and banter with as much gusto as anyone, and is much loved by all who cross his path.
