The Hyrule/Dawn artwork in question
Yup, I agree! Though I hadn't decided for sure yet, in the drawing, I imagined the bow changing colors to match whatever level of ring Hyrule has equipped— like one of those partner rings that lights up when the other person presses it 😆.
I do love the idea that Dawn’s bow was made from a literal scrap of Hyrule’s tunic though! That’s neat, and very fitting for a resourceful duo like them. This is canon to Wisdomverse now :).
And in fact, as I write this, I think I’ve found the perfect merging of all these ideas that also answers a little conundrum I’ve had— I wanted Wisdomverse Hyrule to continue to wear green like in LU, but realistically, why wouldn’t he wear red if it’s his best defensive option, like Legend does?
This new idea explains everything:
The Hyrule Tunic Theory:
Ganon’s minions are after Hyrule and Echo in the Post-Decline era. They believe the blood of the hero can revive Ganon, and they know Echo is a powerful force. Getting rid of Echo would make it way easier to get to Hyrule—and who knows, maybe Echo's blood would work too. She was a hero of her era. Might as well try.
Unfortunately for Ganon's minions, though, Echo and Hyrule are both very hard to catch.
Even without the Trirod, Echo is physically strong, still has Bind, and can wield the White Sword she borrowed from Hyrule perfectly well. Hyrule, meanwhile, is an extremely evasive swordsman and mage (Zelda 1 and AoL are hard; you ain’t surviving if you get hit more than a few times max).
Dawn, however, isn’t a fighter. Her talents lie in other areas.
The three of them figure it's only a matter of time before Ganon’s minions decide they can use Dawn to get to Hyrule or Echo.
Hyrule has to leave on his adventure. He thinks he'll be fine, but he needs Dawn to be safe.
So Hyrule does the best thing he can: he takes off the rings, his strongest protective items, and gives them to Dawn.
Now, the fabric, of course, still works the same way— when part of the fabric changes color, all of it does.
Which means there are layers to this plan. The rings serve not only as protection, but as a warning system.
If Dawn equips the blue ring, her hair bow turns light blue, and so does Hyrule’s tunic. He’ll know that she’s in danger, but she thinks she can handle it. If he’s in the area, he’ll check in on her and make sure she’s alright.
If Dawn equips the red ring, her hair bow turns red, and so does Hyrule’s tunic. He’ll know she’s in grave danger. If his tunic ever turns red, Hyrule would drop whatever he was up to and do anything in his power to get back to Dawn.
If all this is true, Echo would certainly have a patch of the fabric as well. She twists it up and wears it tied tightly around her wrist, and checks it compulsively if she’s ever away from Dawn.
I really like this idea. So much hurt/comfort potential— this helps tie together a future Wisdomverse scene I had in mind as well :).
And the idea that the fabric of Hyrule’s tunic is special in some way makes a lot of sense too, since it fits with a collection of theories I follow: specifically, the theory of Hytopia’s fate in future eras. I’ve been planning things with that specific theory in mind since we came up with it during my EoW and AoL streams.
I’ll write that one out tomorrow. It’s a fun theory, but this post is long enough as it is 😆.
Bet you didn’t expect an answer this long for such a simple question, did you, Anon? Thank you either way; I loved the fabric idea and got a chance to write out a lot of useful theories!
(More Zelda theories and Q&A at #lin thinks!)
