Hahahaha the Ocarina of Time isn’t even my favorite time machine in the Zelda series! The Ocarina’s great, but it’s a fairly standard time rewind. I personally like the Lanayru Timeshift Stones better :).

In all of fiction… hmm… maybe the time machine invented by Future!Bulma in DBZ? It operates in a surprisingly complex manner for a story where the focus isn’t even on the time travel: each time you go to the past, you spin a parallel universe into existence where your changes take effect, but you can only return to *your own* timeline. This means you can make the world better for others, but it won’t magically change everything for your own iteration of the universe, so one’s motivation for time travel is more inclined to be strategic— either learning new things from the past, or collecting the right item that might help your world, etc.

The Hero of Men and potentially his Zelda, with the support of King Gustav, fought and sealed Proto Ganon with the Picori Blade in the Second Imprisoning War.

Fun fact: there’s a panel of TFC where I messed up and accidentally colored Lullaby’s eyes blue instead of red.

This was just a mistake on my part, but I’ve decided to pretend that every time I make a mistake on Lullaby’s design, it’s really just Lullaby using her Sheikah disguise magic to subtly mess with the rest of the girls 😆.

I’ve always had a fascination with time and time manipulation! Love a good time travel theory, love historical accounts both real and fake, and in my stream backstory on Twitch, I’m a former clockwork automaton who escaped a time bubble and chose to become human. If I were a fantasy character, I’d be a time mage. Hence the hourglass :)

On a note more relevant to WV, the first ever proper video game I owned was Phantom Hourglass, and it was the only game I owned for two whole years. Despite nearly two decades having passed since then, I still have a fondness for it: in the ZD interview a few months ago, I still chose Phantom Hourglass as one of my top three Zelda games, and the hourglass is obviously a core mechanic of the game. The “sands of time” concept is also brought up once again in the Zelda series in Skyward Sword’s Lanayru Desert, which is perhaps my favorite region across the Zelda series. Love the idea that the sands of the present could be a fertile grassland or vast ocean in the past. It represents possibility and imagination, both played straight and in reverse!

(These references are perhaps why I chose the Wielders of Wisdom invocation to include the line, “from across the sands of time.” The whole Zelda timeline is a vast, ever-changing metaphorical hourglass haha, constantly being flipped and rerun in a never-ending cycle.)

In short, I sign my posts with an hourglass because I like time manipulation, and want to pay homage to the game that got me into gaming 😇.

And to remind myself to enjoy life, because time flies when you’re having fun! :)

Dawn, as you portray her, is an absurdly charismatic person. it might not be the stereotypical "rousing speech" kind of charisma, but it's charisma nonetheless. she has the kind of personal magnetism that comes with being nice. people just... want to help her. she's very easy to like and extremely difficult to hate.

it's not a kind of charisma that can be weaponized or used intentionally, and I'm almost certain that Dawn has no idea that she has any kind of charisma at all, but it's very powerful and is probably one of the biggest reasons why she's still alive.

Oh, absolutely!

There are, imo, many types of charisma— just as there are many types of wisdom and intelligence. Dawn certainly has a lot of her particular brand of charm, and it certainly helped save her. In WV, the friendly moblins, literal servants of Ganon who have gained their own consciousness after centuries of Ganon’s rule, were moved to pity by Dawn’s plight and worked to help her and Hyrule instead.

Dawn’s charm also works on most of the Zeldas. They can’t help but want to keep her safe, and the older ones respect her for keeping her optimism and sense of wonder despite everything she’s been through. It would have been so much easier for her to end up jaded and cynical after the events of Zelda 1, but Dawn is neither jaded nor naive— instead, she’s aware of the reality of the world but actively chooses to be kind. She’s very strong in her own way.

(Fun fact: Tetra is, perhaps, the most unaffected by Dawn’s charm, because of the traits that Tetra values, and her own personality.)

After the events of EoW, Tri (who I like to believe is the Voice of the Triforce) essentially merged back with the Triforce and went to sleep again, in the same way Fi does in the Master Sword after SS.

But the Trirod still kept its abilities, and the little power triangles are essentially hosted within the Trirod itself, instead of belonging to Tri. So yup, as you said: Echo was still able to use the Trirod in her original era before the Wizard hit her with the isolation curse. The Wizard knew what she was capable of and came prepared with a spell meant specifically to disable her preferred style of combat.

Anyways, to answer your actual question: there’s a few different things going on there. However, I can confirm that if Dawn tried to use the Trirod, she would not be able to. None of the other Zeldas can use the Trirod except Echo, because no one else has collected enemy dolls. And Echo hasn’t been able to use it Post-Decline.

Funnily enough, there is one other character who has been collecting dolls— Hyrule!

My theory is that Wisdomverse Hyrule could use the Trirod, but he can only summon clones of himself with it, and each clone costs quite a number of triangles.

To be clear, Hyrule wouldn’t be able to use it now either. At the moment in the story, the Trirod works for no one.
