Rose had never been in such pain in her life. She had gotten into fights (though she would never admit to them later, she was a lady, after all), been beaten bloody, but this, this was entirely new. She was cold. Shaking with it, nearly convulsing. Someone had attacked her, a stranger, at least so she thought, he seemed to know who she was, what she did for the newly-formed IRA, and knew what she was doing here, an slip of ocean away from her home. The man had bitten into her neck and everything had gone fuzzy. Her own mouth was full of blood- her own? Someone else’s?- and she was left on the sidewalk, in these pitch dark hours of night, unable to scream, just trying to hold onto what little blood she had left. It was like God had sent her an angel when the doctor had appeared less than an hour later. Her teeth chattered.
“I’m cold, I’m so cold, am I going to die?”
It’s there again, that urge. The feeling. He knows better, his will is strong, and working within the confines of a hospital hiding as a surgeon has certainly tested his abilities. But the scent, he knows, is different. It reminds him of himself the night he woke in the pit of bodies. The way Skals smell, though they were imperfect in comparison. The woman before him was different, and he’d half a mind to embrace her, to end her suffering before it became her nature. Jonathan wouldn’t wish his curse on anyone, and the idea of a Progeny, creating another vampire, made his stomach tie itself in knots.Â
“You’re not going to die, I promise. Do you hear me? I promise you that you will not die,” Jonathan pulls off his coat, draping it across the woman before scooping her up from the ground. As fast as his legs can carry him, doing what he can to not utilize his abilities, he makes his way toward one of his safe houses. If he was too late, it was best to keep her somewhere isolated. “Miss, I need you to stay focused. Your name, can you tell me? Do you remember what happened?”Â
