Dorry Hsu's new collection ‘the aesthetic of fears’, is the finalist of International Talent Support with the Swarovski, and Swatch Projects, 2013. In this collection, Dorry well uses the quality of 3D print and color dye the transplant material – SLA. The handmade color dye gives the new energy and dimension of the 3D print objects. Dorry challenges the possibilities of complexity forms and colors in 3D print SLA. She recreates the objects of reflecting self fears with the bugs of many legs. She said “ my collection is about the aesthetic and the attraction of fears. I am interesting about the concept of masks. In many cultures, people wear mask to scare evil away, so the mask are decorated with the frightening images from the wearer’s fears.” In this series of work, Dorry keeps the print out pixel as a material texture to represent the quality of 3D print. Furthermore, using the color dye latex to match the SLA material quality and improve the comfortable of wearing. The 3D print object can fit on the body curve comfortably. "

Humans cannot show their emotions fully since too many use botulinum toxin injections and anti-depression pills, scientists have developed a new synthetic gem stone which can sense true human emotion, and this is communicated through different colours. Humans will wear the jewellery by plugging it in to the semiconductor attached to the gemstone. "

Dorry Hsu è un’artista che vive e studia a Londra. Una delle sue collezioni di gioielli, The Aesthetic of Fears, è stata finalista all’International Talent Support sponsorizzato dalla Swarovski e dalla Swatch. Dorry ha usato con abilità la stampa 3D e la stereolitografia (SLA) per creare “i gioielli dei suoi incubi”: la collezione è stata ispirata dalla sua paura degli insetti. Inoltre, l’artista menziona che in molte culture indossare maschere o oggetti per allontanare il male è una pratica fondata sulla paura di chi li indossa.
Dario: Potresti parlarmi in breve di te, delle tue origini, della tua carriera e dei tuoi progetti futuri?
Dorry: Sono nata a Taiwan. Mio padre è pittore e scultore, ed è stato una fonte immensa d’ispirazione per me. Ho vissuto in Canada, dove ho studiato fotografia presso l’Emily Carr Art and Design University. Adesso vivo a Londra, dove frequento il mio ultimo anno di master al Royal College of Art. In futuro mi piacerebbe lanciare la mia collezione di gioielli e dedicarmi anche all’arte.
D: Perché ami così tanto i gioielli?
Dorry: Adoro i gioielli soprattutto perché adoro studiare e capire le ragioni che spingono l’essere umano a decorare il proprio corpo.
Dario: Per te, cosa simbolizza un gioiello? Qual è la sua relazione con la cultura, la religione e la classe sociale?
Dorry: Secondo me, il gioiello simbolizza la cultura, la religione e la classe sociale. Sin dall’antichità, la sua funzione primaria è di abbellire il corpo, ma anche proteggere, dare sicurezza alla persona che lo porta e trasmetterne le emozioni.
Dario: Perché hai deciso d’esplorare le tue paure trasformandole in realtà attraverso The Aesthetic of Fears?
Dorry: Il mio lavoro comincia dall’analisi di me stessa (e delle mie fobie). Quest’analisi diventa il mio strumento per comunicare con gli altri.
Dario: Potresti spiegarci come funzionano la stampa 3D e la SLA, che hai usato per creare i pezzi della collezione The Aesthetic of Fears? Quali materiali hai prediletto?
Dorry: I pezzi della collezione sono stati realizzati usando un haptic arm e il free form program. Sono due strumenti di disegno 3D che permettono di realizzare modelli 3D più precisi e molto più velocemente. In questo progetto (The Aesthetic of Fears) ho deciso di sfidare la tecnologia 3D e di metterla alla prova per creare tutte le forme possibili che mi passano per la testa. Perciò ho ideato e realizzato un centinaio di forme di tutti i tipi, e in seguito ho selezionato i pezzi migliori. I gioielli sono in resina chiara, e sono colorati a mano.
Dario: Perché hai deciso di unire fashion e tecnologia?
Dorry: Innanzitutto, penso che la stampa 3D sia uno strumento d’alta qualità che possiede un potenziale smisurato. Le forme che possiamo creare tramite computer e i materiali che possiamo utilizzare offrono un nuovo slancio alla moda. Inoltre, la delicatezza e la perfezione dei dettagli sono due ottime ragioni per cui il mondo della moda dovrebbe interessarsi a queste nuove tecniche.

Incorporating 3D-printing and extremely high-quality SLA (stereolithography) material with handmade color dye, her collection which is based on her fear of insects (hence the name) and the practice in many cultures of wearing masks that ward off evil that were traditionally based on the wearer's fears.
