A very reluctant farewell to The Best Podcast! After 50 episodes, hosts Dante Carfagna and Jonathan Kirby are bringing Dogpatch to a close. Now, 50 episodes in almost a decade may not seem like a lot in the podcast world, where the content churn is neverending. But every edition of Dogpatch was jam-packed with awe-inspiring sounds drawn from Carfagna and Kirby's outrageous collections.
From the deepest country music to unbelievable prison recordings, from haunting Greek 78s to radical Curtis Mayfield rarities ... when you hit play, you knew you were going to be transported to truly burnt zones, the two hosts guiding you through the murk with incredible insight and knowledge. Lest that sound a little academic, Dogpatch was also consistently hilarious, with goofy drops, irreverent record fiend in-jokes, and the sense that this is exactly what Carfagna and Kirby would be doing regardless of whether it was all being recorded.
I'll definitely miss Dogpatch, but as a parting gift, all of the episodes have been lovingly remastered, as well as uploaded over on YouTube if that's your jam. I think I'm just going to go back and start at episode one.
