but am I smart enough to understand that we should all be treated as equal, and when those people aren’t, it puts all of us in danger?
yes. because I shouldn’t have to empathize with people just to explain why I don’t want them to suffer or die. empathy should never be the baseline we use to decide who deserves to exist comfortably.
wouldn’t it be kind of fucked up if I only ever cared about the rights of people I was capable of empathizing with?

Also, I know it’s cringey to post twice in a day, but I will also be using this platform to talk about my health problems, as I struggle with IBS attacks and such, because I’m hoping I can use it to connect with other people who have invisible illnesses, because they really really suck and I hate feeling alone; I know other people struggle too. Today, by the way, is a really bad health day. Some days, I’m totally healthy, other days, it’s really hard to do anything at all. It really really sucks being constantly sick. While I know other people have it a lot worse, I still think it should be talked about.

I'm watching the music video to Man! I Feel Like A Woman and have just noted how awkward I feel about the overly sexualized eye candy guitarists, which in turn outraged me. Our culture sexualizes woman so overtly and frequently that, though I find it repellant and disgusting, it otherwise doesn't phase me. But seeing those men on stage made me feel acutely uncomfortable.
I told myself they must be skilled guitarists to have been chosen to play for the mv. I HAD to tell myself that, because that's not what came to mind watching it. All they SEEMED to be good for was looking pretty and stimulating the senses.
And it makes me angry that I -- and countless millions, I'm sure -- have been so desensitized to the sexualization of women that it doesn't even register. I'm not complaining about simple eye candy, but when that appears to be the only use for a person? It's wrong and I am angry.
