Little joke I enjoy about Double Life canon is the sheer "Nobody knows what galaxy duo is, not even galaxy duo" energy. Incomprehensible to everyone in the room and then themselves.
They're part of the divorce quartet. Pearl has been accused of cheating. Scott ditched her, then punishes her by having Cleo axe-crit him in the chest every morning (In-universe, possibly jolting her awake).
Episode 2, Scott and Pearl claw into each other about how they've both had their hearts broken and now the other finally knows how it feels. Two minutes later they're yelling about burning their food supply when they've both been hurting each other. Then they both jump in the snow, so close to each other the only thing visible in either POV is the other's eyes. Two minutes after that, Pearl's forcibly moving into Scott's house and bricking herself up inside it, and he's calling her his crazy ex-girlfriend while she shouts "Excuse you??? We were NEVER in that situation, thank you very much!"
Pearl's "No, but"-ing her way out of "Welcome home, cheaters" (because it was always Scott's roleplay idea that she cheated on him; he just cast her into that pit and left her there) and Scott doubles down with "You're trying to be my soulbound! [Crazy ex is] the equivalent of this!"
"I never wanted to be your soulbound!" (because she will not let him get away with smacking her with that roleplay hook and running off to live a free and easy life. She's not trapped in this cheating roleplay set-up with him; he's trapped in it with her).
Two minutes after that, Scott walks up to Joel and says "Have you seen Pearl? Fully unhinged. Psychotic" and Joel in genuine confusion replies "What? I thought you were together?" Pure comedy.
Can you even imagine... You're sore and cold and your throat hurts after yelling at your ex and chasing her across the land and you've just had to force her out of your house and when you talk to your neighbor, his reaction is "What do you mean you broke up? That was a perfectly healthy relationship. Look what you've done; it's got anxiety."
Alt joke: Their voices carry far across the land because they're screeching at each other and Scott's chasing her around and Joel is just working on his boat nearby and he's like "Ah yes, the usual for Scott and Pearl."
Scott pivots from this into his base-building montage. Halfway through makes a side comment that he wasn't going to put walls on the lower floor, but now he feels like he should... It's so funny.
Last Life: Pearl, you're a PSYCHOPATH; I'm so glad I'm on YOUR team. You're my best friend ever and I love you; I love you so much <333
Double Life: ah.
I want to talk about this conversation I find hilarious, which is Scott pointing out to Pearl that Martyn is trying to win Cleo back, implying Pearl isn't a good partner for not doing the same even though he has made her feel extremely unwelcome and unwanted. Do you want this woman in your life or not; make up your mind.
Also, important bit that's only in Pearl's POV, but Scott says that because he didn't know whether he was paired with her or Martyn (while they were off in the Nether getting hurt), he can't be blamed for not trusting Pearl to mind their shared health because he "didn't know it was her," which is so ????
Pearl: You can still bond with more people! It's fine!
Scott: It's going to take time, Pearl.
Why did he cut all this, skldfjs...
Yeah, he makes it clear multiple times he wants to work things out, but the emotional affair hurt and he sticks to his guns; I respect it. His Freudian slip where he refers to his house as "his and Pearl's" is funny every time.
Something something, Last Life Scott and Pearl giggling over watching each other do their video intros and narrating as if they're in a nature documentary vs. lonely Double Life Pearl doing nature documentaries from her tower... I'm ill.
