That one time in high school you snuck out and kissed some boy in the field next to your house? You were completely star struck and felt like a total rebel? Yet, deep down, you felt slightly guilty for doing such a rebellious act.
You snuck out. Damn you crazy child.
But did those little things ever hurt anyone? Your parents were probably slightly disappointed with your choices, but they understood that you lived and learned. But, what about these dirty little secrets that us college students and adults hold?
No, I'm not talking about how you actually hate a certain dish your mother or spouse makes. No, I'm not talking about the little things as this. I'm talking about how dishonest, conniving, and truly disgusting some of us can be.
You cheated on your girlfriend?
You cheated on your husband?
You're dating a married man?
Am I the only one who realizes how utterly disgusting this is? If you're committed to someone -- married, engaged, or in a relationship -- you are committed to that one person, and no one else. No secret lovers on the side. No two timing.
Love with another person. That is two lane road. This road is where the lanes are both going in the same direction. One is not going opposite of the other. Two lanes, same direction, same speed. This road should not have any sort of exit or entrance ramps either. It's not just your choice to leave and return when you feel like. There should be no such thing.
Once you exit, you're gone.
You're leaving to find another road.
Not to try and drive on them both.
Because, one day, those may cross. Which one are you going to choose? Wait, no. There should be no such thing as a choice.
A commitment is a commitment. If anyone is exiting, its where both lanes separate, at the same time.
For those of you that think you can just drive into another persons relationship. You need to back up and truly think about what you're doing. You do not belong there.
Two lanes, same direction, no exits, no entrances.
If the road is steady with many miles in the review mirror, let it be.
If the road is rough and the speeds just don't add up and you see an exit coming, then both exit.
A third lane or side streets should not exist.
This world disgusts me. Cheating disgusts me. If you have feelings for someone other that the person you're committed to, you better end it with one of them. No one deserves to be stung along and yet pushed to the side.
You're not a rebellious teen anymore.
Cheating on someone is real.
It hurts more than anything, to almost everyone.
Before you enter or exit, think, is it worth it?
Stop with the dirty little secrets.
Honesty. That's what we need and yet what the world needs.
