#discreet magic

Maybe it's just the Hermes devotee in me, but I love travel altars! I love how discreet they can be, but they can also have a practical use...which made me realize, my wallet is a travel altar devoted to Hermes!

The wallet itself can have a pattern and decorations reminiscent of a particular vibe, energy, spirit, deity...and prayer cards can double as idols without taking up too much space. Plus, anything you keep in it, like money, can be offerings!

I purchased the wallet a while ago from SewSophia--with the colors and map design of the fabric, it was the exact Hermes vibe I was looking for. I added a set of HearthfireHandiworks' bracelet prayer beads on the keyring, and the prayer card is the lovely work of WyrdCuriosities. I've had all these things together in this wallet for years, but it really has been a functional travel altar all this time, who knew! 🤣

You’ll find a lot of unnecessary gatekeeping surrounding witchcraft so I’m glad you asked! No, you do not need step by step guides for your spells to be effective. However, if clear guidance is what helps you first develop your craft then by all means follow along with spells written by others! The more you can personalize your craft the more you will grow connected to it, but that comes with practice and confidence.

If you’re working with very limited materials you can practice sigil work, energy work, meditating on your intentions, and glamour magic. You can research those concepts on your own and search the tags I attached below.

also, im planning on releasing a sigil method that would work as a chant as well as a sigil soon for people with speech impediments, if they so choose. that should be out soon, my computer is giving me crap lately so i can’t post it yet.

potions

i have this one recipe for a pain salve that i think helps. I’ll post an actual recipe later and link it, but the gist is homemade lotion with rosemary and menthol and mint and lavender and aloe.

routines

use dialysis or other method of treatment that takes a lot of time but doesn’t require much to do? try using that time to get in touch with your dieties and/or meditate. if you feel comfortable, you could even bring your book of shadows along. if you do pt, perhaps you could listen to witchy music or meditate while doing that.

My bed is my sacred space. After dealing with serious mental issues two years ago, where I would sit in my bed for hour on end, I’ve made an effort to keep my bed as calming a place as possible, where only non-stressful activities occur. I came up with this spell to create a barrier between my bed and whatever negative energies, anxieties, etc might want to cause harm and disrupt my sleep. 

Friendly reminder that witchcraft is not a substitute for health care, and I am not a doctor or a psychiatrist. This spell is merely one coping tool I use to take care of myself mentally. 

You will need: 

One spray bottle 

Moon water- calming, restoring, and cleansing

Salt- cleansing, protection 

Essential oil/oils of your choice (some of my faves listed below)

lavender- relaxing, purification

frankincense- purifying

lemongrass- protection, banishing

cedar wood- cleansing, creating a sacred space

orange- mood boosting, balancing

patchouli- relaxation, balancing

Step 1: 

Fill your spray bottle with the moon water, add the salt, and chosen oils. The amounts are up to you, but you don’t want too much salt or it won’t dissolve. Close the bottle, and shake to combine. 

Step 2: 

In the morning, spray your sheets lightly with the mixture and make your bed, cleansing it. Here, you couid add an incantation if you’d like. Mine is: 

“No negative things will reach me here. Not stress or guilt, nor doubt or fear. For rest and peace this place shall be. And it harm none, so mote it be.” 

Step 3: 

Before bed, spray your pillow and any stuffed animals you may have, and let it settle before climbing in and dozing off!

Tips: 

If you have pets or young children, be careful with essential oils. Some blends are harmful to animals, and people with sensitive skin. Always dilute, and when it doubt, try something else. 

Also, a little of this spray goes a long way. You don’t want to soak your pillows, because that would be no fun to sleep on.

+ Skin-safe Ink Pens: These are perfect for writing sigils on the skin or any part of your body, and oftentimes most of these come off with soap, water and scrubbing, making it easily removable and an easy way to carry sigils on you! You can find these in local bookstores, Amazon, or even toy stores! Get different colours as they usually come in a set for colour correspondences.

+ Removable Tape/Sticky Notes: A versatile tool for on the go magic or temporary sigils that you can stick anywhere. You can write on these with any pen or marker or art supply depending on the brand, but usually, these are found in local bookstores or dollar stores, so highly affordable!

+ Chalk: If you don’t want anything too permanent on your walls or even in public spaces, just use chalk! They usually come right off with a duster or even using your hands to just rub it off, and come in many colours! You can get a pack at local bookstores or dollar stores.

+ Staplers/Duct Tape: For binding spells or simply to keep your materials together. Go to your local bookstores!

+ Binders: Cliche? Yes, I know, but these are really handy for grimoires, plus you can just add in more sheets of paper instead of having to buy new notebooks when you finish one! Also very discreet and portable.

+ Kneaded Erasers: These work like normal erasers, but kneadable, and are usually artist tools. Can be handy for banishing spells as they have precision erasing and performing detailed work besides erasing. Highly affordable in bookstores!

when you carve a pumpkin into a lantern this halloween, you can burn different herbs and spices for a spooky candle spell! before you light the inside candle, sprinkle the spice/herb liberally on the inside walls of the pumpkin!
