Protoceratops is a small herbivorous Ceratopsia, who lived in Mongolia in the late Cretaceous period, between 75 and 70 million years ago. Here's the skull of an adult male of Protoceratops hellenikorhinus, discovered and described by our palaeontologists. Males have a larger hump on the snout and a more developed neck frill than females. During the mating season they could attract females with it, and scare off rivals.
