Dilan: Ah! Cemburu itu hanya untuk orang yang enggak percaya diri.

Milea: Jadi?

Semoga kau tak seperti Dilan, yang senengnya merayu anak perempuan orang. Jangan lemah seperti Dilan, menanggung rindu saja dia sudah tak kuat. Mengarungi kehidupan di dunia ini kita harus kuat, terutama berperang melawan syahwat.

Jangan sok keren seperti Dilan, karena memuji kecantikan wanita dan bisa jatuh cinta pada sore harinya adalah gombal. Anak muda itu bukan penggombal, tapi ia pejuang dalam menjaga hatinya agar selalu berpaut pada Allaah.

Jangan menjadi psikopat kayak Dilan, Nak. Menghilangkan jejak kehidupan seseorang hanya karena katanya ia menyakiti wanita yang disenanginya. Jika kau pemberani dan bernyali, kau akan berjuang menghilangkan kemungkaran di medan dakwah dan jihad.

Pemuda itu, sebelum tidur selalu bermuhasabah atas hari yang dilewatinya, bukan mengucapkan selamat tidur secara diam-diam kepada wanita yang dipacarinya.

Aduh Nak, anak lelaki itu harus tahu bahwa kegagahannya untuk memuliakan Islam dan kaum muslim. Kegagahan bukan untuk bermaksiat kepada Allaah dan menjerumuskan diri dan anak perempuan orang dalam kekejian pergaulan.

Semoga generasi muda muslim selalu mampu menjaga kehormatannya, memuliakan lawan jenisnya dngan menjaga interaksi. Tidak memperturut hawa nafsu dan punya "standar keren" yang benar.

Tadabburilah kisah si ganteng nan solih Mush'ab bin Umair. Ia gagah, ganteng, kaya raya, parlente, terhormat, dan cerdas. Tapi, tak pernah ia pakai semua itu untuk menggombal para wanita. Ia bahkan meninggalkan semua keglamoran kehidupannya lalu berhijrah ke Islam dan menjadi penerus lisan RasuululLaah shollalLaahu 'alayhi wasallam. Ia wafat dalam kemiskinan setelah menjadi wasilah hidayah bagi penduduk Madinah. Lalu apa bagiannya di sisi Allaah? Allaah dan Rasul-Nya meridhoinya. Lalu di mana posisi Dilan? Ia adalah karakter fiktif yang melenakan banyak muda mudi.

Sekali lagi Nak, jangan seperti Dilan yaa... Hancur hati Ummi kalian ini saat membayangkannya.

“Jangan rindu, ini berat. Biar aku saja.” Dilan said to Milea over public phone, in Bandung, 1990. Many rumors said that this Dilan - Milea love story is actually a real story based on the author’s life, Pidi Baiq with the real Milea Adnan Hussain, even though in the second book he made it seemed like he’s just the author that retelling the story of Dilan and Milea.

Anyway, when I first read Dilan book in 2014, which I was still in sophomore year of college, every lines that Dilan said were truly sweet and I somehow imagining of how wonderful life would be if I had a boyfriend like Dilan. I read all of the books (3 in total), so I really excited when I first heard that Dilan will be adopted to a big screen movie. So I watched it, and....

I am truly, really, totally don’t like it.

It’s not because of the movie that bad, well in my objective opinion, Iqbaal Ramadhan as Dilan played the role so well, he was very believable as the real Dilan that we, as the readers, keep imagining when reading the book. Vanessa Prescilla as Milea, however, didn’t really give the likable performance. She did good, especially with the fact that this is her first movie debut. But somehow, the Milea character wasn’t really believable.

And the dialogues... All of the plot, the scenes flows, and the dialogues are pretty much the exact things that we’ve read on the book. In the book, all of it were really sweet. When we hear it through the movie? God, too much cheese on it!

The dialog were sooo cheesy and too lovey dovey to the point when we just begging it to stop. As I done watched the movie, I kept questioning why did I hate the movie that I’ve been anticipated since college?

You know why?

Because I grew up.

I think that’s the most reasonable thing that came on my mind.

I read the books when I was still a college girl, several years ago, when I was still single af due the bad breakup and kinda longing for a sweet boyfriend at that time. As I grew up, I met someone and have this stable and serious relationship and the concept of love is somehow changing in me. My boyfriend isn’t someone who likes to sugarcoat the words just to make me happy, he makes me happy and shows that he loves me in a non-cliche things like how he take care of me or how he supported me, something like that. So when I watch Dilan in a situation when the frame of “what is love” is changing inside my mind, I find myself see the Dilan movie as a cringey, cheesy and not romantic love story.

For second reason why I don’t like this movie,

I already know the ending. Well it’s because I’ve read the books, so as I revisit my memory about this story, I’ve realized that why Dilan behave this sweet to Milea and why they’re so good to be together is because what we see is their early stage of the relationship. The chasing stage to the honeymoon stage. Every relationship has that stage and you know that stages are the sweetest, right? Yeah.

Not trying to be a bitter person, but their relationship in the movie is too cheesy and the dialogues that I’ve loved so many years ago turned into cringey dialogues in my ears now.
