“Someone Else Will… Or Not”
Someone drops their bag *crash*
Crowd goes quiet… everyone just stares.
Eyes look left, eyes look right,
“Someone else will help… not my fight.”
This is the bystander effect in action,
Everyone hopes someone else takes the action.
Diffusion of responsibility, no one feels in charge,
So we all freeze, and nothing gets large.
We scroll our phone, whisper excuses,
Pretend we didn’t see, act like recluse.
But science says one brave person can start,
Even small help can grow big in heart.
Step up first, break the silent spell,
Kindness spreads faster than you can tell.
One hand reaching out, one hero appears,
And suddenly the crowd loses their fears.
Next time someone needs a hand, don’t wait,
Be the first to act, don’t leave it to fate.
Helping matters more than you know,
A small act of courage makes kindness grow.
