No, what I'm doing is what we would call 'alternate character interpretation.' There's nothing I wrote in BM as far as their characterization goes that couldn't technically be consistent with what we get in canon. In fact, that's one of the main reasons why in every chapter of my story I include an actual quote from the actual books—the source material. I have tried to build the universe of my story around a plausible interpretation and expansion of the books themselves. I am not really influenced by fanon because I quite frankly haven't read HP fanfic (with a few exceptions) in over a decade. The heydey of when I was reading it was when the books were actually coming out. What I see now I don't like because it doesn't seem to have much of a relationship with the books I grew up with and enjoyed.
Now, that being said, do I think my 'more sympathetic' take on Sirius's parents is exactly what JKR intended to imply with the snippets we get of Sirius's family in the context of the books? I doubt it. But I will maintain that I've done justice to her world, that my version doesn't contradict canon. I also find it a hell of a lot more interesting than most of the abuse porn floating around the fandom, but that's a subjective thing, ultimately.
