𓂃 ࣪ ˖ ♡ 𖥻 flaws ─── dickkory week 2025
summary. kory & dick know they have flaws that they both need to work on but they love each other in spite of them. word count. 1,402
the tower felt too quiet after a mission. the kind of quiet that wasn’t peace. just exhaustion dressed up as stillness. the titans filtered through the common area, bruised and sore but alive.
raven vanished first, muttering about meditation. gar and conner disappeared to the med bay. donna leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching the last two people still standing in the middle of the room.
koriand’r and dick.
“you pushed them too hard,” kori said, voice sharp as sunlight cutting through clouds.
dick didn’t look up from the mission data scrolling across the tablet in his hands. “we got results. nobody died.”
“that is your measure now?” her tone rose, soft fury trembling beneath the words. “no one died?”
he set the tablet down with more force than necessary. “we can’t afford mistakes, kori. not with what we’re dealing with.”
the others glanced between them. donna with narrowed eyes, gar frozen halfway to the door. they all knew the pattern. this wasn’t the first argument, and it wouldn’t be the last. but something about tonight felt rawer, closer to breaking.
“you keep saying we,” kori said, stepping forward, “but you mean you. you push until everyone around you snaps, and then you wonder why no one can breathe.”
dick’s jaw tightened. “someone has to take this seriously.”
“i take it seriously,” she fired back. “but i do not take you trying to control everyone as leadership. you are not bruce.” the name hit him like a slap. the silence that followed was sharp enough to cut through armor.
kori immediately softened, regret flickering across her face. “dick-”
“no,” he said, his voice low but steady. “you’re right. i’m not bruce. i’m trying not to be him. but when you charge into fire without thinking. when you act like you’re indestructible, someone has to pull you back.”
“and when you try to make me into someone i am not,” she countered, “someone smaller, quieter. who pulls you back?”
donna took a step forward, but raven’s hand on her arm stopped her. “let them,” raven murmured. “they need this.”
kori’s eyes burned gold, not with rage but with hurt. “you think i don’t see it? that you look at me and see every mistake you can’t afford to make? that i am your proof you can still save something?”
“that’s not fair,” dick said, his voice cracking for the first time.
“it is true.”
he exhaled, shoulders slumping under the weight of words he couldn’t defend. “you scared me today,” he admitted quietly. “when you flew into that building without waiting for backup, i thought i was going to lose you.”
“and so you yelled at me in front of everyone,” she said. “you made me feel like a reckless child.”
he closed his eyes, guilt crawling up his spine. “i didn’t mean to humiliate you. i just-”
“wanted to protect me,” she finished for him. “i know. but love that suffocates is not protection, dick. it is fear wearing armor.”
“i’m still learning how to love without trying to fix everything,” he said. “you’re right, i push too hard. i think if i can just control it all, no one gets hurt. but it’s not fair to make you pay for my fear.”
kori’s voice softened. “and i am learning not to let pride make me reckless. i wanted to prove i did not need saving. but perhaps i wanted to prove it too much.”
the fight had burned itself down to embers. she reached out, her fingers brushing his gloved hand. he hesitated, then took it. “are we okay?” he asked, voice small in a way that reminded her of the boy he used to be. the boy who tried so hard to be enough.
she smiled, sad and bright. “we are flawed, richard. but love is not the absence of flaws. it is the choice to keep holding on through them.”
donna cleared her throat from the corner, breaking the tension just enough. “well,” she said dryly, “that was uncomfortable for everyone. glad you two worked it out.”
gar peeked around the couch, whispering, “so… are we hugging it out or pretending that didn’t just happen?”
raven rolled her eyes. “pretend.” kori laughed then, a soft sound that cracked the tension completely. dick looked at her and smiled, really smiled, for the first time that day.
“tomorrow,” he said quietly, “we’ll do better.”
she squeezed his hand. “yes. tomorrow.”
as the team drifted away, the city’s lights reflected in the glass walls around them. two people stood together in their aftermath. not perfect, not unscarred, but still choosing each other. and maybe that was what made them stronger than anything else.
