The ringing isn’t constant, and it’s often closer to a combination of a whistle and the rushing of the ocean rather than a high pitched whine. 

Occasionally, it can be down to another issue I have with my ears (too narrow ear canals), but I’m not experiencing any of the usual symptoms that are associated with that.

Also, yeah, apparently one of the tests I had would have identified tinnitus, and an ear, nose, and throat specialist found nothing amiss  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards it being a processing issue.

deviantdragons: if you haven't already, ask your doctor for a referral to a specialist? sometimes test results aren't always concrete.

I have been to a specialist ear, nose, and throat doctor, and went through the entire examination. 

He did find that I couldn’t hear as well out of my right ear, and suggested it may be nerve damage. However, that’s been disproven by two hearing tests after the fact, as they come up with perfectly good hearing. 

Those, however, were in a controlled environment.

Ah, okay, so audio processing can also include ear ringing? 

I wasn’t absolutely certain of that, as most of what I’ve read/been told about it only had information on the difficulty it can cause in busy environments and conversation.

A mix of anticipation and concern when I think about it. Which, to be honest, isn’t a ton these days, because it’s been 4 years, and I don’t expect it to hit for at least another year (or two or five or some indeterminate amount of time). 

Because on one hand, look, I love Dragon Age. Even Inquisition, my least favorite of the series, has hundreds of hours of playtime. Unless DA4 literally, intentionally sets my computer on fire, I’ll probably enjoy it at least somewhat. I like the world. I like (most of) the characters. I want to see where it’s going to go. I want to know what canonly happens to some of my favorites (even if I then pretend not to know).

And the idea of a fixed protagonist, like Hawke, feels like the right step to me if they’re not going to do origin stories/give meaningful differences to the different backgrounds. (I understand that the option for elf/dwarf/Qunari Inquisitors were added in late, so I’m not accusing the devs of being lazy or anything. I appreciate that we had the options, but for me personally, I like the protagonist to react appropriately when the story significantly impacts them, and that’s something that didn’t happen a lot in Inquisition.)

On the other hand, MEA shook my faith in Bioware. Regardless of the game quality after patches, the fact is that it shouldn’t have been released in that state. Was it the worst game release ever? Not at all. But it wasn’t finished, and when people pushed back against that, they dropped single player expansion. That, combined with the push for Anthem, makes me worry that DA4 is going to have a similar fate.

And even if it doesn’t, Inquisition was my least favorite of the series. I didn’t feel connection with any of the companions like in 2 and Origins; the world was beautiful but empty; their push for all sides are equally terrible has, in my opinion, diminished a lot of their earlier world building. I hope they don’t continue going in those directions, but I don’t know.

Golly, I’m so glad we agree. I was starting to worry that post wasn’t explicit enough about specifying that dislike and disapproval of other people’s ships is not the problem--in fact, it's about as old as fandom itself--and the new, disturbing element here is “this person ships a thing I disapprove of” becoming a widespread signal for “this person is fair game for harassment, coercion, ostracism, defamation, suicide-baiting, doxxing, having their head flushed in the locker-room toilet, and basically anything else I feel like doing to punish them for existing.”

Shockingly, it is possible to dislike and be grossed out by someone else’s reading material and leave them the fuck alone about it. Or get into sniping matches that are about the merits of the material itself, not the people who enjoy it for whatever reason. Even more shockingly, it’s possible to do both those things without kicking up an anti-anti backlash, because the backlash is against attempts to intimidate, control, and harass shippers. Or, in other words... aggression. Not bare dislike.

Unless, I guess, you’re using “dislike” as some strange code for “I have a god-given right to control which fictional characters this random stranger on the internet likes to imagine kissing, and also the right to do whatever I want to them if they have the gall to disobey my edicts.” But that would be silly.

If it makes you feel any better, we rent this place, and I’m pretty sure the rental company replaces it as a matter of routine whenever someone moves, so no one will have to live with this glitter induced nightmare carpet forever. Also, there’s no carpet in the room where it’ll be opened, which will make it easier to deal with.

Hawke is bored. 

Rationally, Anders knows he should feel guilty, and on some small level, he does. He had planned to have more pages of his manifesto ready for copying by now, but the words aren’t coming out right, and a poorly written screed can be worse than none at all. He’s sure that if he just focused, this wouldn’t be a problem. 

Mostly though, he just feels enthralled. 

The dying candelight is outshined by orbs of tightly packed electricity, gently bouncing around the room at chest height. They bathe the space in blue, giving it a distinctly otherworld feel, as though this is a dream. If it is one, it’s centered around Hawke, leaning back in a chair and directing the lights about with smooth flicks of his hand. 

The dog sleeping at his feet may be unimpressed, but Anders knows what kind of control must go into such a display. It’s everything the Chantry insists can’t be, and Hawke, unpossessed and unrestrained Hawke, is in his clinic, living proof of everything a free mage can be. It’s dizzying. 

And Anders wants. He wants a lot, too much, everything. For all mages to have those kinds of opportunities, loving families and lessons without punishment. For everyone to see the good that is so obvious to him, to replace fear and hate with acceptance and understanding. For all the wrongs that have been done to be prevented from happening again. 

And those are nothing new, but he also wants to see what Hawke looks like without his armor in this unnatural light. He wants to kiss him until the building need in his chest is sated, to see how long Hawke’s control can last, to replace that neutral expression with something more rapt. Anders wants to hold those sweeping hands with his own and feel spells collide and combine. He wants to see what Hawke can really do when he’s trying. 

trans writers and writers of color would ALSO be nice & would cut down on the yucky writing that ends up in da games.
