so yesterday I was talking to someone and told them that I'll be studying linguistics next winter semester and they replied with: "oh no, now I have to pay attention to speaking grammatically" - guess I'm a proper linguist already

What will this blog be about?
This is supposed to be a linguistics/study blog. I want to discover and discuss theoretical content and phenomena, popcultural linguistics, linguistic memes, and general university life. I want to both share and create posts. Please don’t hesitate to write me a message; I would love to chat!
Who am I?
I am a 20-year-old student from Germany. Currently I am enrolled in my third semester of teacher education with the subjects English and German and the aim to teach 5th to 10th grade. By having two languages as my subjects, I have to do a fair amount of linguistic courses. And to be perfectly honest, I struggled a lot in my first german intro linguistics course. In my English introductory course, I realized that linguistics is not that confusing after all, and that it is actually very logical. So that’s when I fell in love with linguistcs. :)
Why have a linguistics blog when I don't even study linguistics?
Another aspect of this blog will be my process of becoming a bachelor linguistics student! Ever since I realised how much fun I had doing linguistics, I couldn't stop thinking about the possibility to actually study linguistics. The problem with that, as it is with all humanities, that the job market is rather tight, especially if you’re not planning on specializing early on. And that is the main reason why I didn’t switch earlier to linguistics. After hesitating I finally decided to enroll in linguistics. I will not switch completely, but do double studies in teacher education and linguistcs, for the same reason of having worries concerning job opportunities. Unfortunately, I can only enroll to linguistcs in the winter semester so it will be almost another year until I can actually start to study! I want to share my thoughts, feelings and steps on this path.
So acompany me on my journey to what may be the best decision I have ever made!
