Gracie could hear them coming up the stairs, the heavy boots and the guns cocking. There was only one thing she had to do and it was protect their daughter. She didn't care what happened to her, if she lived or died, just that Elizabeth was okay. 

She grabbed her gun from under her pillow and slid down the hallway as she heard them enter the apartment, staying close to the wall. She closed her eyes for a second, listening to the boots on the hardwood. 

Five guys, one with a light limp. She would never be able to take them out alone. Gracie knew what was going to happen before it even did. She knew she wouldn't make it through the night. 

Gracie softly opened the door and grabbed a blanket, putting it over the edge of the crib so it blocked their view of Elizabeth. Hearing them come to the door. "I love you, baby girl. It's going to be okay.". Gracie quickly opened her phone and typed up a text. 

[text: Permanent roommate]: You need to come home. In case it goes bad, I love you. Always have. She barely got to press send before they were in the room. The next few minutes was a blaze of bullets. Gracie shot two of them in the head before the other three put too many bullets into her. She couldn't hear Elizabeth anymore. Her heart racing as heard them running out, she fell to the ground, pulling on the blanket to see her daughter. 

"Swee--" she couldn't get the words out, her body going limp as she tried to reach into the crib. Gracie didn't hear anything, her daughter was dead, she knew it. She had to be, there had been too many bullet. It would be a miracle if she wasn't.
