We seem to have this weird yet funny quirk where we will be very, very self-aware about some things, including how our trauma has affected us, but also someone can go "Hey you seem to be very interested in this thing and talk about it often and put effort into understanding + engaging with it. I think you like this thing." and we will be very surprised because we did not notice that at all. Like well shit I guess you're right, but why is it that I can analyze how random bits of our trauma affect our life now, but I can't identify something as simple as "I like fashion."?
I'm putting this out there now for all the authors that want to incorporate "therapy speak" into their stories and have self-aware characters, but also want those characters to have identity issues or similar problems. I assure you it is possible. Give them a deep interest in understanding why they're like this and no sense of self to be like. It'll be a great combination, trust me. (And I'm only being half sarcastic when I say that! It's great for the Character. Not so much for the Me.)
