thats a fair hc i’d say it started that way maybe very plausibly? i dont think that was the case with all the arcs though because you can only keep denial that heavy up for so long, no matter who you are and considering they’ve had to fight for their lives (and people have died/ nearly died) it’d be more of a daily life arc through ring battle arc hc at most sort of thing. 

But after googling a bit of depression’s symptoms and re-reading Yamamoto’s chapter in the manga, I think you might be on to something, whether the author was intentional or not.

I feel like the strip above is more of him thinking that by failing baseball, he has failed everything and therefore, he is no good.

Reckless behaviour:

The other points I can’t prove as I don’t think I have seen those symptoms from the manga, but I could be wrong.

But I also think the symptoms doesn’t necessarily point to depression, because I’m sure most people will feel depressed for a while, Yamamoto hardly shows any of the symptoms anymore in the later chapters (maybe the author just forgot about it or discarded it?), and I’m more convinced that his decision of wanting to jump off the roof is something decided at the moment.

Might be unrelated to the point, but I’m sure that Yamamoto wanted to have someone or a friend who can relate to his situation well, when the people around him just see him as a perfect person who can’t possibly have flaws.

But this is a good addition and there are a lot of open ended theories abt Takeshi because Amano never retouched on any of that Shit which kind of disheartens me seeing as how it was written off as he’s just ok after that and nothing more because of the aforementioned gag manga chapters the issue appeared in. 

As someone who (bringing this up due to the heavy subject of suicide/depression) attempted to end their own life on several occasions and came very close to succeeding. Jumping from a roof is way too out of bounds to just be an impulse of the moment decision, no matter how ugly your thoughts. Ending your own life is planning, and thinking, and playing with idea for usually a long time and buddy you’re in somewhere so dark and hopeless when you try. No one who is temporarily depressed (that’s a thing?) eg: for weeks or some months (as far as I know, I could be wrong) would go so far as to be two seconds away from doing so.

Usually it’s smaller actions that start out like self harm. It’s a slow decline. Depression is thrown usually bc a lot of our generation has it, suicide is being backed into a corner with no more options left.

And absolutely I believe Takeshi was lonely and starved even for a friend who wouldn’t idolize him and put him on this pedestal of always being the best. Who would at least listen, coming from a place maybe even darker than his own. The panels are him seeking help. They’re kind of obvious attempts at red flagging to Tsuna without literally saying it that “hey I am not okay! I need help!” only Amano doesn’t touch on that well because mhmmfnhn it’s supposed to be Funny Look At This Idiot Jumping Off A Building And Talking About Baseball Gods. Also a plot device for Tsuna to become closer to Takeshi.

Maybe the point is that it could go either way and no one is really wrong in their HCs because we still don’t know shit. I don’t think Amano intended them to be signs of depression either. But they’re blatant signs just the same.

People can become dangerously talented at hiding those things especially if they fear rejection or don’t even recognize it for what it is. Takeshi was most likely not even taught that was something he could have????
