Psychologists say the secret is to develop a passion, a sense of purpose if you will, to live a long and healthy life.
Motivational speakers will tell you that this means you must have a defined and achievable goal.
You need to know where you are right now so that you can plot your course to where you want to be.
BMI by itself is a flawed predictor of mortality.
However, by referencing pertinent actuarial tables, we can get adjusted life expectancies for each BMI category, for each gender, age group and ethnicity.
This still does not take into account Body Type. An Olympic weightlifter and a couch potato may have the same BMI's but have very different health and mortality prospects.
Waist to height ratio will treat the weightlifter more kindly and with more accuracy.
QALYs, or Quality-Adjusted Life Years, are derived by subtracting age from probable lifespan on the assumption of perfect health.
They are essentially used in Economics to quantify health costs in different countries.
The global cost of a QALY is around $5000 pa and in the US it is around $9000. A couple aged 65 can expect to spend $240,000 on health care costs during the remainder of their lifespan
People are living longer but the period spent in disease is also increasing.
In the casino of health and disease, you would want to stack the odds in your favour because the cost of losing is more onerous than just losing money.
Modifying weight and waist measurements will not ensure an increased healthspan, but it will stack the odds in your favour in the aforementioned casino.
The purpose of the chart is to show you the extent to which you can stack the odds in your favour by modifying your weight and waist measurements.
We can't promise that you will live your extra lifespan in perfect health, but if you reduce the risk of disease, it is probable that you will spend less time in disease before your demise.
We therefore present the increased healthspan as additional QALYs because you are also increasing the prospects of health.
The purpose of the chart is to show you the extent to which you can increase your probable QALY's by modifying your weight and waist measurements.
The columns on the left show the calculated QALYs based on BMI and WHtR.
By looking to see what the maximum QALYs are in the columns to the right you can see the weight and waist measurements you should be to achieve those results
In your journey to get to your goal weight and waist measurement, you will have to employ proper nutrition, exercise, gut diversity, sleep, social integration and life enjoyment.

BMI and WHrR are useful indicators, but they say nothing of strength, endurance, aerobic capacity, psychological health and the impact of accumulated deficits. We have calculators for all these.
