One thing about Ralsei is that his idea that “darkners are meant to serve” appears to be in direct contradiction to the very existence of dark worlds. When dark worlds bring an object to life that object now has freedom and complete agency over their actions. If darkners true purpose was to serve then the freedom dark world gives is directly contradictory.
More curiously is that, as of chapter two, it’s clear Ralsei seems somewhat uneasy about idea of serving lightners and he appears to be slowly growing into more of his own character.
This of course prompts the question of where Ralsei is getting this idea from, because no other darkner seems to really care about it. Whoever Ralsei is getting their information from is likely the same person convincing Ralsei that the dark fountains need to be sealed away, given sealing away dark fountains removes the agency of darkners, thereby forcing to server the lightners.
One possible clue could be that Ralsei is “Prince of the Dark” and therefore a king of the dark must exist as well. However as of right now, there is nowhere near enough know about Ralsei, his past of where he is getting so much information on dark fountains on.
I don’t believe Ralsei is truly evil, or that he even believes everything he says; it seems far more likely that Ralsei has someone else who has spent most of their life fairly isolated and is regurgitating the teachings of someone who holds more malicious intentions.
