Finally after five years, I have been able to draw again! And after getting hyper-fixated on Kaiju no. 8 I had the motivation and the want to do this!

Meet Yukiko daughter of Kafka Hibino for my Kaiju no. 8 au. I’ve been so excited to talk about this. I got the chance to discuss this idea with @sonicasura which I’m very grateful for! She gave me wonderful feedback and suggestions.

I will say now spoilers for season 2 and the manga if you haven’t already watched/read that far. Because this is a rewrite of how the manga ended. (I was very disappointed with the manga ending 😑) and I don’t ship Kafka with anyone. Single dad Kafka is the hill I’m dying on.

This AU is essentially what if Kafka had a baby? This happens a short time after General Shinomiya is absorbed by Kaiju no. 9. Kafka returns from a mission, he just wants to take a shower and relax. Unfortunately not what fate has in store for him. While showering he suddenly feels pressure in his abdomen and popping sound in between his legs. Kafka turns to find a slate grey sac has fallen out of his body. Panicking and morbidly curious, he inspects the fleshy sac. It moves he proceeds to open it to find a tiny version of Kaiju no. 8 inside.

Panicking again he calls the only person he thinks he can trust, Vice Captain Hoshina. When he gets there he’s equally as surprised but just hiding behind his stoic face. They hide the baby in towels and hurry to the research center. The new head Kaiju expert, Akechi Okonogi (Konomi’s cousin) is fully on board helping Kafka with his bundle of joy. (Think Hanji from AoT) with this news all the Captains and Vice Captains agree to that Yukiko is an invaluable asset for the Defense Force. Baby kaiju are unheard of, much less of the strongest Kaiju they have working with. She’s kept as a secret of the utmost importance.

Much of the beginning is Kafka adjusting to being a dad. Setting up a schedule for himself and Yukiko, what’s she eating (she eats mostly Kaiju meat puree.) cut back on his liquor consumption. Everything that comes with living with a baby. If the Force does need him in a pinch he can leave Yukiko with Akechi. The doctor is Kafka’s anchor for much of his paternal journey.

She matures quickly like some animals (reptiles, birds) she can crawl and walk by five months. As well as, hide her teeth on a whim. When Yukiko has her mouth closed it appears very cute like a little 0w0 smile. But when opened has full set of teeth (albeit dull) like her dad. She can eat human food, her favorites are squid, crab, pomegranates, oranges and noodles.

As for her favorite people at the Ariake Maritime Base. Aside from her dad and Akechi, she loves Gen. He was actually the one to suggested feeding Yukiko Kaiju meat. She loves watching him game. The music and images of his games are so intriguing to her. She will fall asleep to the music. He’s had to change his game preferences otherwise Kafka will be mad. So lots of cutesy looking games that are actually dark. (Kirby, Hollow knight, Undertale)

Kikoru is uncertain, she seems to be okay with kids. Yukiko is another story entirely. The Kaiju child is curious about Kikoru but also senses her stand offish behavior. Probably needs Kafka to bridge the gap.

Hoshina is a funny one because when Yukiko first encountered him. He was wearing no. 10 and didn’t like the energy he gave off. Very scary/aggressive she wanted nothing to do with him. She’s basically an angry cat hissing at him every time they interact. She’s also incredibly confused as to where his “tail” goes. She tends to express her distain for him by biting said tail. Kafka has to pry his child of his CO.
