Taylor, Florence, Speak Now & Pumpkin Anon Connections
I want to revisit the pumpkin anon messages, especially with October and Halloween coming up, plus the two October albums weāre getting: Taylor Swiftās The Life of a Showgirl on October 3rd and Florence + The Machineās Everybody Scream on October 31st. As I was writing this to explore connections between Taylor, Florence, and the pumpkin anon, I kept finding more and more connections to the Speak Now Era. So this will be a deep dive into connections between the pumpkin anon messages, Taylor Swift, Florence + The Machine, the Speak Now Era, and how I think itās all leading up to Taylor coming out and correcting the timeline. (This is my first super long analysis so forgive me if itās a lilā all over the place.)
PUMPKIN ANON + SPEAK NOW REFERENCES
All of the pumpkin anon messages are riddled (pun intended) with Speak Now references: ballgowns, sparks fly(ing), masquerades, enchanted.
Plus, the 6th message describes the I Can See You MV / Speak Now heist perfectly. I wonāt go into that analysis because others have covered it in depth. Ā I do want to expand, though, since we got a Behind The Scenes video about the making of the MV where Taylor talked about being broken out of the Speak Now Vault, where sheād been frozen in time:
āWe are in the middle of my museum prison cell where Iāve been held captive for roughly 12 to 13 years in the Speak Now EraĀ [ā¦] And basically the idea is that I was just frozen in time *laughs* and that, basically, this heist is happening to bust me loose.ā
Taylor has so much cage imagery throughout her music, and many have made the connections between cages and closets. Sheās been stuck in the closet, stuck in the circus/high school that is the entertainment/music industry. Sheās frozen in time, still at the restaurant. But calling back to the Speak Now Era with the cage/vault imagery is interesting. I think this may have been the first failed coming out (forgive me if Iām late to the party; thereās so much lore to keep up with). It was her first fully self-written album. Itās purple (lavender). And so much is coming back around to that period of time.
Speak Now came out on October 10th, 2010. Speak Now TV came out July 7th, 2023. The behind the scenes video for the I Can See You MV was released December 13, 2024. Thatās 14 years between the original Speak Now and the BTS videoānot 12 or 13. (Though it was recorded in 2023, I thinkāwe got the pap of Taylor with the Speak Now portrait but I canāt find it to confirm the exact date we think she recorded the MV). If we take it literally, sheās saying sheās been stuck for 12-13 years in the entertainment industry, stuck in the closet. And while that could be all, itās Taylor, and she loves double meanings and things referring to multiple different Easter eggs. I suspect that 12-13 is a reference to TS12 and TS13, potentially, and that TS12 and TS13 are her busting out of the vault/cage/closet. Weāve already seen so many hints at TLOAS being the āOfficial Release of a Showgirlā, hinting (yelling, screaming) that she is going to come out and draw the curtain back (again, trying to limit my scope, so I wonāt delve into those). Ā
In the ICSY behind the scenes MV, Taylor goes on to say:
As you can see from the amount of tally marks on the walls Iāve been here for⦠ages. Itās been stressful⦠I imagine.
This to me is a reference to how long sheās been counting the days, likely counting down the days, until she could come out (of the closet/cage/vault). At first, she thought it would be Speak Now (when she got shoved into the closet), then TS6, then Lover, and itās gotten pushed all the way back to TS12. Like she said in the New Heights podcast announcement, TLOAS is āan album [sheās] been wanting to make for a long time.ā
āIāve been here for⦠ages.ā This could be a casual way to say āa long time.ā But what else is referred to as ages? Eras. I think this refers to her being stuck in the closet/vault for multiple ages/eras, going through different iterations of herself (the mirrorball, the poet, the showgirl, etc). And it could also refer to how sheās grown up, aged (and thus gone through different numerical ages, literally) in the closet as well.
Except⦠sheās also been frozen in time. I donāt remember who originally came up with the idea now, but thereās a theory that Taylor has been metaphorically time traveling, going back to where everything went wrong and retelling the story the way it was supposed to happen. Even Taylor explicitly says in this behind the scenes video that āI was just frozen in timeā. So, now, sheās changing the prophecy. Changing the ending to one that she likes this time. (Iāve seen this film before and I didnāt like the ending.) And basically, itās her going back to when she first met Karlie. Which was in the Speak Now Era.
Also, I want to highlight the performance art aspect of this BTS video. Sheās talking about how stressful itās been for Speak Now Taylor to be locked up in a cage. And to most people sheās talking about/as the character in the music video; itās a performance. So she adds āI imagine.ā Even though we know sheās lived it, and this is just a representation of it all. (Am I sounding crazy yet?)
Next: The Behind The Scenes video of the I Can See You MV is exactly 3:21. Exile ends in 3, 2, 1⦠fuck. Sheās a mastermind. Breaking out of the vault, coming out, itās all the same thing.
And the behind the scenes video was released on her birthday, December 13th, 2024. Why release the BTS video for a music video a year and a half after the MV came out (July 8th, 2023) and why on your birthday? Unless it was to specifically foreshadow something you had planned for the future. Ā
I highly suspect that Debutation is coming on December 13th, 2025. And it will be the burning it down, burning the Lover House down. Ā Why?
PUMPKIN ANON + FLORENCE
Letās circle back to the pumpkin anon. And, of course, I promised Florence.
The 14th pumpkin anon message is riddled with references to Florence + The Machine and her upcoming album, Everybody Scream. This message was posted by @spade-riddles on October 17th, 2024, so it was foreshadowing, just like the I Can See You MV description.
What are those references? Letās take a look.
Imagine this. The stage doors slide open with the rumble of machinery.
Machinery = Florence + The Machine.
The bright lights and even brighter roar of the crowd overwhelms you for a moment. Your body is already moving, possessed by the coregraphy you could do in your sleep like a manufactured-to-be-sexy robot.
This reminds me of Florenceās album Dance Fever, which drew inspiration from women who danced themselves to death. Thereās ties to witchcraft, which connects to possession. It also reminds me of the performance taking over everything else around you, getting lost in the act of performing.
Lyrics and melodies are pouring from your smiling lips, faster than your brain can keep up with. It's all so big. So loud. So dazzling.
Whatās been the recurring word for TLOAS? Dazzling. We got āthe futureās bright⦠dazzlingā in Clara Bow. The post for The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, itās called dazzling. TLOAS era is all about the glitz and the glam⦠and whatās underneath it all/behind the curtain.
I really wish I could go line by line but I gotta speed this up somehow. The next few sentences are about Taylor performing on stage, how she would see Kaylors with āa hand painted sign with an inside jokeā and see lesbian couples enjoying the concert, how she was drawn to them and wanted to break character to engage with them:
for the thirteen millionth time, want to break character. To floor it through the fences. To rip the seams of the constricting ballgown and scream at the top of your lungs. "Look at them instead!" You want to insist. "I wish I could be more like them! They are the truly great ones!"
So many Taylor referencesā13, being in character/performance art, floor it through the fences (But Daddy I Love HER), the Speak Now ballgown. What started out as beautiful dresses turned into strangling expectation, masquerading (as straight) turned into being caged.
And thereās Florence! āThe Great Onesā is a single on her album coming out on October 31st, 2025, on Halloween. Pumpkin anon has always been a Halloween reference. Anon even mentioned it explicitly in their 13th message (posted October 31st, 2023):
You didnāt think Iād forget to drop by on Halloween, did you?
In this context, it seems like Taylor (and potentially the New Romantics/ people involved in the mass coming out) is saying āthe great onesā arenāt the ones who perform (because theyāre fake/lying), but the people who live authentically (in this case, out and proud lesbians). Iām sure Taylor canāt relate to that all⦠(sarcasm).
But the timing of Florenceās single release is also significant. Taylor released The Crowd is Your King variant of TLOAS on September 24th, 2025 at exactly 3 PM.
30 minutes later, Florence released her second single, āOne of the Greats.ā Thatās a WEIRD time to drop a single. It canāt be a coincidence. PLUS, WHAT ALBUM IS SPEAK NOW? The THIRD ALBUM. 3 PM.
You know what else is being released at 3 PM? The Official Release Party of a Showgirl. Almost like Taylor is going back to her 3rd album and resetting the timeline, reclaiming the narrative.
FLORENCEāS ONE OF THE GREATS + TAYLOR PARALLELS
Okay, now letās look at the lyrics of One of The Greats. Itās a performer reflecting on what it takes to be āone of the greatsā; itās implied they mean one of the greatest musicians / performers of all time. And so much of it seems to speak to Taylorās experience and callback to the reputation era and karma, but also to showgirl / performance as an act. Like, performing your life, the way Taylor has been doing. And more and more women in the music and entertainment industries keep reiterating these themes of the pain and truth beneath the glitzy showgirl with their own stories, albums, and imagery, they are all revealing what is expected of women in show businessāand it isnāt pretty.
I crawled up from under the earth
Broken nails and coughing dirt
Spitting out my songs so
You could sing along oh
And with each bedraggled breath I knew I came back from the dead
To show you how it's done
Sounds a lot like reputation era Taylor who canāt come to the phone right now (why? ācuz sheās dead! (couldnāt help myself!)). Taylor was dead, gone, and buried. But she crawled back out of her grave. It was gruesome, it almost really did kill her (coughing dirt). Spitting out songs doesnāt sound very pleasant. It sounds like a machineāa printer spits out paper, a computer spits out code. Itās dehumanizing, and itās supposed to be. āSo you could sing alongā is oh so diabolical. She did this for the fans, for āyouā. But did she want to? Ā
Not likely. Itās implied that someone brought her back to life, revived her against her will (like the Frankensteinās monster allusions in Fortnight MV), forced her to get back up, to keep singing, to keep entertaining⦠Spoiler alert: sheās going to make them regret it. Here comes Zombie Taylor (who literally crawls out of her grave in the LWYMMD MV).
I did my best, tried to impress, my childhood dream made flesh
And my dresses and my flowering sadness, so like a woman to profit from her madness
I was only beautiful under the lights
Only powerful there
Taylorās childhood dream was to become a popstar. The flesh and reference to madness remind me of Clara Bow. Remember that Clara Bow was admitted to a psych hospital on October 3rd.
But the next line seems to be the culmination of the song: [KR1]Ā
Burned down at 36.
Why did you dig me up for this?
This is the Lover house, burning down when Taylor turns 36. On her birthday. Which is this year. Iām both excited and terrified, and Iām sure she feels similarly, as many easy eggs and anons have all pointed to. But itās coming back around to KARMA. Once more:
Do you regret bringing me back to life?
Not yet, but they will.
BACK TO PUMPKIN ANON + SPEAK NOW
You stay the course. You remind yourself that every scratch on the prison walls is one step closer to freedom
Sounds a lot like the prison wall in the Speak Now Vault. Where she was trapped. For a lot longer than she anticipated. But what is freedom?
Closer to lying in the sunlight of your lover.
Like⦠Daylight? Lover album, where she tried, fought tooth and nail to make this her coming out album, finally. But the masters heist and everything else prevented that.
Closer to that final time you will duck under the edge of the pedestal
Like⦠leaving the stage, stepping down, dropping the curtain? This is TLOAS. Ā Ā
and drown in the waves of grief and relief in equal measure.
Sounds a lot like The Fate of Ophelia.
Your guilt is only placated by the fact that you tried to warn them. So. Many. Times.
I gave so many signs. It still gives me chills that she got the eras tour crowd to sing her part whenever she performed exile as a surprise song. Literally having the fans who will likely leave when the curtain is pulled be the ones to sing āI gave so many signsā when they didnāt see (or refused to acknowledge and accept) the signs that Taylor gave about her queerness.
You told them that you were a monster. A traitorous beast. A godzilla smashing your way through their town. You grit your teeth. You hold your microphone like a matchstick.
Reputation. Anti-Hero. The showgirl, forcing a dazzling smile. She knows she going to be exiled.
You try to enjoy what you can, while you can. Because once that curtain draws, things will never be the same again.
Taylor knows sheās going to lose fans. But she also knows that she is going to shake up the industry, (hopefully) break the Hollywood blender. The curtain is being drawn. We have TLOAS, and we have some behind the curtain teases like The Official Release Party of a Showgirl. Ā Behind the performance, behind the mask/masquerade is the true Taylor, not showgirl Taylor. Not brand Taylor. Ā
They will finally be as they should have been all along. And that's the best and worst part of it all.
Resetting the timeline! Reclaiming the narrative! Itās noteworthy that itās written as āthey will finally beā not āthings will finally be.ā Emphasis on people, on the couple and the family.
Ā I hope your Halloween is enchanted. š
Obviously a reference to Enchanted. I was enchanted to meet you. This song is about the night Taylor met Karlie Kloss. Weāre going back to the beginning. (I watch it begin again.)
But whatās happening this Halloween? Florence is releasing Everybody Scream. I donāt think this title nor the themes of dealing with fame and performance are a coincidence. I think sheās in on it. And I think she has been for awhile. Taylor, Karlie, and Florence have been friends since at least 2015, if not earlier.
One more Florence line analysis cuz I CANT STOP.
I kept a scream inside my chest
Killed everyone I'd ever kissed
Hung them on the wall like trophies
Each name a stain upon my lips
I told the truth but could never see it through
You see yourself hung on the wall but that song is not about you
I wrote down all my fumbling visions transmitted by a television

The scream inside her chest is the secret sheās hoping, dreaming, dying to keep (or at least, she was). That sheās queer. She laid the groundwork to come out so many times, but she changed her mind, got scared, backed out, or was forced back into the closet each time. She thought she wanted fame, but it wasnāt as glamorous as she always envisioned it to be. It wasnāt all princess, Disney magic, beautiful ballgowns.
WAIT A MINUTE. If the scream Taylor kept in her chest is her queer identity⦠and the album Everybody Scream comes out October 31st⦠and it seems to be tied to the mass coming out and performance art of it all, and calling back specifically to SPEAK NOW⦠what if all of the celebrities that Taylor has gathered in the New Romantics start SCREAMING.
Everybody scream = everybody come out. Thatās their cue. Everyone starts to come out.
Holy shit. And itās tied to Speak Now because itās exactly what Taylor wanted to do thenāSpeak Now, speak her truth, be authentic. In the original Speak Now era. Where sheās been trapped.
Weāve been getting so many cracks in the door, a little bit of light shines through, because the door is opening. I think one of the older pumpkin anon messages even ends with Taylor putting her hand on the door handle.
SPEAK NOW + PUMPKIN ANON
But we gotta circle back to the behind the scenes video of I Can See You MV for a minute, because Taylor makes an explicit Sparks Fly reference
āMy favorite moment was when Joey was perched on top of the door of the vault with a buzzsaw and sparks are flying out everywhere and she just looked like an assassin but also an angel?ā
I think this connects to the idea that the person breaking Taylor out of the vault could have been either friend or foe: an assassin, there to kill her and bring her down (the sharks, the businessmen in earlier pumpkin anon messages) or an angel, there to save her. The angel imagery connects to the religious themes of TTPD. Plus, Karlie was a Victoriaās Secret angel. And we know Karlie was the one who was always ready to come out, and Taylor who hesitated. So it could also be Karlie encouraging her to come out. Ā
This sparks fly image and Taylor commentary connects to two pumpkin anon messages:
(message 1, posted May 13th, 2023):
[While driving the getaway bike and facing an unforeseen obstacle] In a panic, you drag your foot on the ground to stop, stop, stop. You hardly slow, and now your shoe is ruined, foot scraped. A HEEL damaged, as the sparks fly from speeding tires.
(message 3, posted May 14th, 2023):
Your getaway bike begins to leave without you, sparks flying as the tires try and fail to slow down for you. You have frozen in this moment of indecision. But your hesitation was a decision all its own. This person may try to beat you to the punch by revealing your true face to the world. Or perhaps your best laid plans will still fall into place like dominos after all. However, thatās a risk you no longer have the luxury of taking. And so, itās a good thing you always keep a pack of matches on you.
The sparks have been flying for awhile, but this time sheās prepared to burn it down.
And the most recent pumpkin anon we got was posted in June 8th, 2025. One day after the 2 year anniversary of Speak Now TV (though it could have been sent on July 7th, 2025). What does that message say?
