thinking about âhow gallant to save the empress from her gilded tower, swinging a sword he could barely liftâ in the ttpd epilogue versus âall that time i sat alone in my tower, you were just honing your powers / now i can see it allâ in the fate of ophelia

âTook her pearls of wisdomâ sounds like lesbian slang for sex. I can imagine women in the Victorian era gossiping saying âI heard she took her pearls of wisdomâ and gasping in horror.

The way swifties react to a deepcut Taylor Swift song in public like she's a close personal friend and not the world's biggest popstar should be studied, because tell me why I had a physical reaction to the restaurant I was in playing ruin the friendship and dress at dinner the other day
so I decided to finally listen to TLOAS fully⌠and write down my thoughts. I heard and enjoyed many critiques of this album and I figured it was about time to think for myself lol.
The Fate of Ophelia -> very very cute. imo itâs about Taylor losing hope in love after many failed relationships and she kind of closed herself off at the thought of romance after her breakup with Joe and all the others before him. Meanwhile Travis kind of brought back that fire and spark in her, saving her from the fate of Ophelia - she kind of loosely references Ophelia, imo itâs to say that like Ophelia she was disappointed and betrayed by the men in her life who wanted to use her possibly and then she escapes that fate by meeting and falling in love with Travis. 10/10
Elizabeth Taylor -> I feel like Iâm missing a meaning because idk much about Elizabeth Taylor. The song talks a little about Elizabeth Taylor and her violet eyes and about Taylor hoping her love lasts forever? I think? Idk this one kind of confused me ok đ So google says itâs about anxiety and the scrutinising of Taylorâs Swiftâs love life just how Elizabethâs was. Very enjoyable, I kinda can see the meaning better now 10/10
Opalite -> is there a dig at Travisâs ex there? the phone lyric? The beat eats okay. I think this one is about past love not working out (lightning strikes) and moving on from it and the sad times (onyx sleepless nights) to a happier place (opalite) with Travis. I like the song, it focuses on the bright side of experiences and that they too shall pass and you will be happy again 10/10
Father Figure -> I feel like this is about someone and idk who lol. Possibly about her rise to fame and someone who was a mentor to her throughout it and maybe the fact that now she is at such level of fame that she herself can take the mentor role and has stepped out of the prodigy role. i like the beat and the lyrics, my dick is also big so no i donât mind that line. 10/10
Eldest Daughter -> the start im crying. sheâs not wrong itâs just the wording and also she sounds a bit sick when singing was she sick? in the chorus??? it sounds nasally. i think the song starts by talking about how she doesnât feel like she fits in and maybe is trying to seem cool and fit in and how the internet also plays a big part in why that happens. I feel like this song is about growing up and growing into yourself and as she says shimmering that innocent light back that you lose in the process and falling in love with Travis helped her reconnect with her inner self. I like it, Iâm iffy about some lyrics. 9/10
Ruin the Friendship -> I went into this song having an idea what it was about. Apparently itâs about her old friend who died and sheâs reminiscing the past. Idk if he passed close to when the album was written or why the song is on this album. It kind of doesnât fit the vibe imo. But a cute song about grief and regret and how itâs better to regret doing something than to contemplate the what if i did do something? 10/10
Actually Romantic -> big fan and hater of this song, idk the full lore behind it but I hate the cokeâs got you brave line, also the itâs making me wet? why? lol but i think itâs about obsession yk, how someone is so obsessed with you like as if theyâre in love with you or act even more obsessed. again i know who the song is supposed to be about but idk the lore fully, if i donât bother with the lore this song is an 9/10, but if i bother with lore it definitely drops down to a 5/10
Wi$h Li$t -> honestly not bad, there were two lines I didnât enjoy, but overall itâs an ok song. As far as I understand it, it speaks about being sick of fame and other people want that fame and they should have it but all TS wants is to be free of the fame lol and to be left alone and happy living her dream life with Travis. The beat and idea is cute but itâs not that much of my jam 7/10
Wood -> song about Travisâs wood⌠I think itâs playful and fun, especially if I ignore the dick metaphors ok. I hate dicks that are attached to men, sue me. Also a fun song probably about letting go of control and fear of bad luck and looking out for signs and superstitions wherever you go. 10/10
CANCELLED! -> idk if the songs are about specific people, im not that deep in the TS lore anymore, but I think this one is a throwback to reputation and cancel culture. When youâre cancelled you find out who your real friend are and theyâre usually the people who also went through this (have matching scars). I kinda feel like the corny lines are used here to mimic the dumb critiques people often have and the wag cancel culture failed its purpose. I canât look pst the corny lyrics, again the beat and idea is great, very catchy 7/10
Honey -> i heavily dislike the use of bitch in this song as a derogatory term to describe a woman yuck. Honestly not a bad song, kinda sweet (like honey lol), It feels like it could be about the fact that people always talked down on her, used sweet words as mean and passive aggressive as she says and then Travis comes along and doesnât do that and means what he says. Ultimately to me this song is about learning that what youâve experienced and knew for most of ur life isnât all that there is and there are people who will say honey with love, not condescension. -1 for the use of bitch, overall 9/10
The Life Of A Showgirl (ft. Sabrina) -> again the use if bitch to describe a woman in a derogatory manner irks me out. this song feels a little like sheâs saying through the album that fame isnât all fun and sometimes she wishes to be normal and such but then this song is like i know what life i chose and even if i have second thoughts sometimes then i still wouldnât live any other way. I hate a big portion of the lyrics in this song, I think there couldâve been a better way to say the things she wanted toâŚ? idk. This also feels like a tribute to the fans, with Kitty signing autographs and saying Taylor doesnât know the life of a showgirl and how thatâs how fans can be like but the end is either made to mimic the eras tour or is straight out pulled from the eras tour. solid 7.5/10
so the album isnt horrible, but if i had to chose i definitely wouldnât chose this one. mind you im not a hater, i pretty much like every album of taylorâs so far, i listened to some more than others and now i barely listen to her â but i was at the eras tour (i won the ticket wars), listened to Speak Now TV the moment it came out, woke up early for it and same for TTPD. I feel like the name tracks, a lot of the songs are about fame related stuff like the scrutinisation of her love life, unfair cancel culture, having second thoughts about fame while still cherishing the life she has. i feel like this album sounds like an end of an era â the eras tour â it references it and wraps it up in a nice and neat bow. so now taylor swift has grown up and changed and learned from all the eras of her life that she wrote about before. i mean she is married now so thatâs a bjg change
^ also curious if she knew about the wedding before we knew because there is a lyric where she says that she will never break that vow and i immediately thought about wedding vows.
