Just realised that in 3x19 Damon tells Elena that he doesn't want people to see the good he does because he doesn't want to live up to any expectations, but then elena is trying to live up to stefans expectations in season 4 but then takes damons logic and thinks screw it, and goes with what she wants, because with damon there is no expectations, she can just be herself with the knowledge he loves her no matter what

I just hope that after everything is said and done next episode. Damon comes back from the island to find Elena huddled up alone in her room and he just wraps his arms around her and holds her while she cries. And maybe a tear comes down his cheek because he can't stand seeing his love in pain and because he loved Jeremy too. They just need to comfort each  other right now.
