So, during the past few days I’ve seen a lot of people who have shared gender headcanons of the dcla characters. A lot of boys who are eggs and come out as transfem post show, lots of transmasc headcanons, and I’ve also seen people just discuss gender expression in these shows and how with some they might be a bit more fluid and/or breaking of norms (like Yam preferring to wear a suit over a dress).
So, since it’s still pride month, this is perfect. Let us talk some gender headcanons and theories! Do you have any trans headcanons (I know trans!Maxi is very common), maybe characters you think might be eggs, or maybe you have seen some trans headcanons around that has intrigued or surprised you? (I for example once saw someone headcanon Francesca as trans and I got very intrigued in hearing their take on it, but they kinda went offline soon after). Maybe you got som nonbinary takes, or some she/theys etc! There is also the general discussion of how gender is expressed in the shows with how the characters are dressed and portrayed, etc. So yeah, this week is all about gender! :D
I don’t think I really have any particular gender headcanons or theories, though maybe a couple of gender expression hc’s. Let’s see!
I’ve heard about ftm Simon and I see the appeal. It’s not a hc that I’d say I’ve adopted, but I don’t have anything against it either. I see Pedro in the realm of “uses he/him, but he doesn’t really care” in terms of his pronouns. I can also see him identifying as he/they too tbh. He’s just very nonchalant about it either way. Honestly, I can also see Luna vibing with she/they too.
I’ve also seen she/they Yam and I really like that hc, I can see her being genderfluid and aligning with they/them more than she/her some days. That being said, I also really like Yam going against gender norms (ie. the suit) while still firmly identifying as a girl. So I go back and forth b/w those two headcanons for her. Ultimately, even when seeing she/her for Yam, I do agree that she definitely goes beyond gender norms.
I also see Luna not really caring about gender norms a whole lot. She enjoys being feminine for sure, but I can also see her being open to occasionally wearing suits and some more traditionally masc clothing over other “feminine” options. Heck, I headcanon her stealing some of Simón and Matteo’s clothes too. And she pulls them off very well, esp considering the size difference.
So, idk why but it always peeved me that in the show only the girls got to wear a Jam and Roller bathrobe. I don’t even see using bathrobes as being stereotypically female! But since the show apparently seems to make it a gender norm, I gotta mention that I 100% see Ramiro and Matteo also wearing the bathrobes when getting ready for competitions and or a show. I see the RB guys wearing them to feel fancy once, but then not really using them beyond that. Same with Gastón.
While we’re at it let’s go with makeup headcanons for the boys. I definitely see Pedro wearing black eyeliner regularly for shows or events, and also painting his nails on the regular. He always sticks to dark, monochrome colors though. I also see him encouraging Nico and Simón to at least try out painting their nails at least once. They don’t dislike it, but it’s not really their vibe either. Maybe Simón vibes with it more than Nico.
Ramiro, I can 100% see him regularly wearing makeup and painting his nails, not just for competitions. What can I say, he knows he looks good in it. He definitely uses more color combos too and has gotten quite good at creating some cool eyeshadow patterns too. He can’t do nail art, but has gone to Yam, or nail artists to get them done cause he does enjoy those quite a lot.
I can honestly see Matteo also experimenting with wearing some light makeup and painting his nails too. Though in his case he’d first probably have to get over a bunch of pre-conceived gender ideals that I see him having internalized from when he was a kid. Or maybe he is confident enough in his image and masculinity that he doesn’t mind experimenting. He has canonically cross-dressed too after all, and seemed to be bothered about making a hurtful video rather than from wearing female clothes. So who knows, maybe he started realizing some things back then. Either way, Matteo probably never considered experimenting with gender expression until someone else told him he could do that. (Probably Gaston, though for some reason my mind imagines Jim being the one to do so too).
By that frame of mind, Ámbar also cross-dresses for that video and she doesn’t seem bothered by it one bit (heck, she’s the one who suggested it). I for sure see Ámbar being more traditional feminine leaning, but post season 2 she probably enjoys incorporating some more masc-leaning clothes or accessories (leather jackets and chains, maybe even cargo pants) into her more look. She still prefers presenting more feminine, but she probably enjoyed experimenting.
Those are some of the headcanons that came to mind. Hope they made sense in some way or another 😅! I am excited to see Violetta one day and find out if I share the vision of Maxi being trans.

So I'm someone who has full next generation OCs. If you've seen me around, I've written fics, drawn fanart and made posts about the future kids of the dcla characters, names and personalities and everything. I've made ones both for canon and non-canon ships; I let Leon/Violetta have a kid, and in an alternate universe Francesca/Violetta have three kids together (they take turns being pregnant and the third baby is adopted). Jim and Yam have kids and randomly much earlier than their friends. I have several characters I imagine having kids on their own, in particular Camila who I imagine got a child via IVF and raised on her own because she's not interested in having kids with someone else. And on top of that, I imagine that Luna, no matter if she's alone or with someone else, she will adopt a kid.
Now, this question will not be about next gen ocs, cause not everyone is as into that. Rather, the question of the week is: How do you think the dcla characters (who are not parents) would be as parents?
Of course, not everyone is gonna have kids. And you don't need to do this ship wise either (unless you want to?) - just how you'd imagine the individual characters would be as parents (at least the ones you can picture wanting kids). Someone probably would try to be the opposite of their own parents, someone else would be really chaotic... maybe their way of parenting depends on what type of child they'd have! :D
Omg this week has been LONG. I've been working on this answer for bit by bit for days and then realized that it was too long even by my standards 😅. Believe it or not, I trimmed down A LOT of the first two couples in here. I'll probably end up making a separate post talking about the hc's i didn't include here lol.
I separated it ship-wise for some semblance of organization. I do think each couple balances e/o well as parents in general:
Simón and Ámbar:
So idk why, but I just have this vision of Simbar having twin girls. I think that b/w the two, Ámbar in general does tend to be on the stricter/protective side, while Simón is a little bit more easygoing and of the mentality of letting their girls "live and learn" (Sonic reference anyone?).
I think that the girls would probably go to Simón for more emotional/creative advice. With Ámbar they would go for a more, logistical and practical advice. Something along the lines of "I want to do this, but how do I actually make it happen". (Dont know if Im ecplaining it well.
As mentioned before, Simón is a big emotionally and physically affectionate parent. Does he spoil his girls? Absolutely. That doesn't mean he's a pushover though. He can be firm and strict, when the situation calls for it. Oh, he's also on the PTA.
He did briefly pass out in the hospital delivery room, but was luckily back up before the labor even went into stage two so all was well in the end. Plus, aside from that, he was an excellent labor partner throughout the whole process. Ámbar will never let him live it down tho (neither will Matteo and Luna tbh, but they're not ones to talk either). She thinks its hilarious. Ámbar ends up being viewed as "Super Mom" in her household (a title that Simón himself also perpetuates). She is a busy lawyer, but is always there to help her girls out. From helping them with hwk to organizing the family chore chart like a genius.
Her profession has also never prevented her from attending every single important event in her kids' lives. That definitely stems from her own childhood, as Sharon never attended any of the important events in her life. Her own upbringing made her fear that she'd be cold and absent like Sharon. Luckily, she had the best support in the world.
Also, we talked about Simón spoiling the girls, but let me assure you: When the girls' birthdays roll around, Ámbar is the one who goes all out for their celebrations. The celebrations still remain intimate and true to what the girls want though.
One additional note: Ámbar is a perfectionist and competitive, and even if she loves her kids so much, she will spare no one in order to win whatever boardgame/videogames they are playing. Her kids are exactly the same way in that regard. So yeah, Simon always loses on family game nights.
Luna and Matteo (They are somehow my favorite couple and I can only apologize for this fact.)
This household is probably chaos ™ incarnate at times, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it is also a close and loving family. I do think Luna and Matteo also had many conversations over the matter of having kids for several reasons. Among them, their hectic career schedules and their own issues with abandonment and family (Cause I do think they both have those, albeit in different ways. Honestly, these two never learnt the true meaning of the word “organizing” until they started their parenthood journey.
I can see them either adopting or having biological children. Regardless, I envision their kids inheriting Luna’s endless energy (either biological or spiriYtually). This is mostly because I think the idea of Matteo being the only one w/o inhuman energy in his household is funny af. He “complains” about it, but he actually really loves having a loud and warm household compared to the environment he grew up in.
His own upbringing and relationship to his dad, similarly to Ámbar, did make Matteo take a conscious decision be a very present dad to his children, even when his career demands him to travel. He always makes sure to be present for the important dates and milestones in his kids’ lives. I think Matteo definitely scaled back the touring once him and Luna started trying to have kids. He is also a tad overprotective of his children, though never to toxic levels. Funnily enough, he’d be around the same level of overprotective as Miguel was with Luna when they started dating. Lets just say he gained a new level of understanding for his father in law. And don’t get me started on how overprotective he got when/if Luna became pregnant 😅. He probably was more stressed than her throughout the pregnancy.
If she goes the pregnancy route, it would take some adjustment on Luna's part to recognize that there would be things she cannot do (nor eat) while pregnant. What I’m saying is, she 100% tried to skate while being very far along in her pregnancy. Matteo almost had a heart attack. Luna also would get the weirdest cravings at the most unusual times.
As a mom, Luna would probably be the parent their kids would probably rely more on for relationship (be it platonic or romantic) advice. Otherwise, it's pretty balanced in terms of who their kids come for advice. Luna is also similar to Simón with encouraging her kids to experience life and learn from their mistakes. But, she also gains a deeper level of understanding of the worry she caused her own parents throughout her own life 😅.
Luna also makes sure to always be present at her kids’ special events and dates, no matter what. Additionally, she’d be the kind of parent who puts all of her children’s achievements on the fridge. She creates fun scrapbooks documenting their life milestones too. Tbh, both her and Matteo are the hype dream-team, especially when it comes to cheering for their children. These two will be the loudest cheerleaders at any event they go to support their kid(s). They’ll make banners and all. Their kids get embarrassed by it (even if they secretly appreciate it most of the time).
I think that one of the most prominent things that Luna and Matteo teach their kids, is to always follow their dreams/passions and that it's also vital to put in the hard work to achieve said dreams. Having said that, I also think that they make sure their kids know to not overextend themselves to the point of having health issues. I hc that Luna and Matteo each learned this particular lesson the hard way as adults, and want to prevent their kids from ever getting to that point. In a definitely not unrelated note, their kid(s) grow up being fluent in Italian, Spanish, and Spanish sign language. Multilingual house!
Luna and Matteo ofc also introduce their kids to skating and music, but never pressure them to follow in their footsteps, nor do they expect their kids to have the same passion for those disciplines.
Additional note on these two as parents: Luna and Matteo’s kid(s) have several times joked that their favorite singer is their tío Federico (or tío Simón) and their favorite skater is tío Ramiro. This is untrue (they are their parents’ biggest fan(s)) but they do love messing with their parents. Matteo has only cried abt this once (Or at least he claims it was only once).
Gastón and Nina
I think they would also be balanced parents. No other parent would be as engaging when telling bedtime stories than Nina. I think by the time she and Gastón get to the point of having kids she feels incredibly secure in her relationship which eases her insecurities about putting her kids through what her parents did every time they fought. While she is a worrier if she sees her kids try sports, she still encourages them to pursue their interests. She'll just make sure that they always know to wear the appropriate protective gear.
Gastón would be a little bit more easygoing in terms of their kids’ activities, but I do think hed get a bit overprotective once their kids start dating. (Tbf, this happens to him, Matteo, and Simón but none of them ever reach toxic levels).
While Nina narrates stories to their kids, Gastón acts them out. Together, he and Nina are a dynamic duo in that front. I think they both instill their kids with a love for storytelling and creating. Also. This family has 👏🏼weekly👏🏼 movie 👏🏼nights👏🏼. In general, a family bonding activity is watching movies and shows together. The family even has a list/schedule of who gets to pick the movie each week. I think in general Gastina also teach their kids to be pretty independent from early on. But at the same time their kids always know that they can come to their parents for anything they need.
Jim and Yam
You know, I see them adopting a kid. They didn't consider having children until well into their relationship. Even after that, they took their time to consider their options before settling on adoption.
I think Jim is a worrier and checks up on their kid daily, while Yam leans towards giving their child space, but ofc still being reliable and being always there when their kid comes to her for advice on their own terms. Both Jim and Yam teach their kids to love music as well as designing from early on. They have 100% made family performances and they're both cute and awesome.
Jim and Yam's house would be chaotic af (especially when tío Ramiro visits), but again, it'd be the warm and close kind of chaotic. I also think that Jim and Yam would have to organize themselves to balance their artistic careers with raising their kid. This would be especially true for Jim, since her choreography work would require her to be out of the house for work more than Yam, who once they adopt, I hc as setting up her own home studio to work on songwriting and recording. That being said, Yam would still have to find a balance since she'd still be doing performing gigs.
Honorable Mention: Ramiro
I don't see him being a dad, but he hangs out at Jim and Yam’s place so much (barring his traveling due to skating competitions and such) that their kids call him their adoptive uncle. He babysits those kids a lot, and I imagine him and Jim and Yam’s kid(s) get up to so many shenanigans that you could make a whole sitcom about it.
Let's talk about birthdays! I think the only dcla character we know the CANON birthday of is Violetta, as on her application paper for the studio it clearly said 26/06/1995 (meaning this year she's turning 31!! wow I wonder what 31 year old Violetta is up to...)
But many other characters we have NO idea when their birthdays are. We can have some ideas - Ámbar and Luna's birthdays seem to fall around December for example (I kinda like Luna's birthday being like at New Years personally). Others we can just make things up - for example, I like the idea that Jim and Nina were born roughly around the same date, and that is kind of because of this joke that they got switched at birth because Jim looks so much more like Ana😂 (and yes I know she's from Spain but who knows! Maybe she was born in Argentina and then her parents moved back to Spain and then back to Argentina again 🤣)
What are your theories on people's birthdays? Do you think someone is older or younger than they appear? Do you think someone has a birthday on a holiday? Oh, and how do you think some of them celebrate their birthdays?
Ok, I wrote like I a whole encyclopedia and didn't even fully went into all the characters. I'm only a little sorry about that!
Luna
Given that Luna's 18th birthday happened at the end of season 3 (and I got the vibe that it happened after her school year ended) I think her birthday is at the end of December, maybe around the 20th. Since I hc that the show takes place 2016-2018, then Luna is a 2000's girlie. There's some inconsistencies since this would mean that Luna was 15 throughout most of season 1, while Sol Benson is assumed to be 16 years old at that time, but if we ran by that logic, then shouldn't Luna already been 18 way before the end of s3? They never really explored any of the legal stuff and paperwork regarding Luna being a whole other person with a different nationality and birthday. So for peace of mind, Im just gonna stick with a December bday for Luna.
I do think she does like celebrating her bday, especially with close friends and family. I do imagine the size of her parties being big due to her being very sociable and making friends easily. They are not too extravagant though. I think the exception to that would have been her Quinceañera, but even then it was not a super big / fancy event. I also do think that since her bday is close to Christmas, there have been many instances where it has been celebrated at the same time as the holiday.
Ámbar
Ámbar's birthday. while also late in the year, does seem to still fall in the school year (since after her bday party in s1 we still got Blake scenes and saw Luna work on her final project). Assuming the school year ends around December 15th (This is based on when my school used to end the it's academic year), then I'll put Ámbar's bday between December 1st and the 10th. There could still be some inconsistencies with this. The main one being that the Rodafest final shouldve taken place after the seniors graduated, which would make Ámbar 18 years old already. In that case, why would Sharon not just, have her claim the Benson fortune then? I need to rewatch the end of s2 to get a clearer idea, but for now I'm sticking with Ámbar's bday being in early December (Let's say December 8th cause why not).
Ámbar's birthday parties are canonically something that everyone looks forward to. So it's safe to say that Ámbar always goes all out, or as much as Sharon will let her. Her Quinceañera was also THE event that year, and the party where Sharon got the most involved since it's also a very social event. I do think that Sharon also made the party into some kind of power play in Argentina's rich/elite society, cause I feel like that's something she'd do. I think after the show, Ámbar definitely has shifted towards having smaller, yet more meaningful parties with her loved ones. Maybe even during season 3, she just celebrated her bday with The Valentes, Alfredo, and Simón. That was probably her favorite "party" to date.
Simón
In order for certain age gaps to be the least questionable possible, I'll say that Simón is 18 during season 1 and turns 19 late in the year (so born in '97). I think I'll actually put his birthday on December 24th. Since he is a big family guy, he has always celebrated his birthday with his immediate family, but in many ocassions pre-show, he and Luna have decided to have a joint birthday party (on her birthday) with their families and friends attending. I think for that reason he really struggled in his 19th birthday since it was the first one he spent away from his family and even Luna (since she was visiting Cancun at that time). However, Nico and Pedro went all out in making him have the best birthday/Christmas ever. I like to think that they spent the day together and then Simón spent Christmas Eve night with Nico, and Christmas day with Pedro. In that moment he truly considered them his brothers for life.
Matteo
I think Matteo is the youngest of the guys, though he's still older than Ámbar. I'd say probably late November (let's say November 29th just because). I don't think he really celebrated his birthday before moving to BA tbh. His mom is so rarely mentioned that I don't think she's in his life anymore (whether she's dead or not, I still havent decided) and his dad is at best a workaholic so it wouldn't surprise me if he rarely was even home for Matteo's birthdays. Before BA Matteo didn't really seem to have close friends so needless to say, I think this guy has had a lot of lonely birthdays. I will say that that most definitely changed when he met Gastón, I think that since they became friends Gastón has always been there for him in his birthdays. Heck, I think Gastón has made it one of his personal missions to make sure Matteo has an awesome birthday every year since they became friends. So yeah, Matteo - despite loving parties - still prefers more intimate events for celebrating his birthday.
Gastón
Gastón is apparently a Libra! So I'll put him around October 21st. While I do think Gastón's parents seem to also be workaholics, I do think that they are much more present in his life, so they also try to always celebrate his birthday together, or at least as close to the actual date as possible. Since Gastón and his family travel a lot, I do think that they often do a small celebrations in his birthday and then properly celebrate when summer vacation rolls around and they travel somewhere together.
I also think once Gastón and Matteo become friends, Matteo also consistently spends Gastón's birthdays with him the date of. I think Gastón's parents are especially thankful that Gastón has someone to be with him during the day of his bday when they are unable to make it (even Gastón understands and they still celebrate together). He has even joined them on a couple of their trips to celebrate Gastón's birthday, since he kind of becomes a semi-permanent fixture in their house. Ofc once Nina and Gastón start dating, she also spends his birthday with him, though moreso post-show given that they were only dating throughout s2 and i dont even remember if they were properly back together at that time in that season.
Gastón and Matteo also made a pact that they will share their first legal drink together. So Gastón waited until Matteo's 18th birthday, when they took one of their parent's alcohol bottles and shared a drink together. Ironically, they also were together for their first (alcohol) drink ever. They snuck into Matteo's dad's alochol cabinet at like age 16 and got drunk from like one ™ glass each. It was a fun time and they have a lot of blackmail of each other now.
Jim
I get July vibes from her for some reason. I'll say her birthday is probably July 21st, which around the start of winter vacations in Buenos Aires. Her and Yam also have joint parties since their birthdays are so close together. Yam always gives her the most meaningful and personalized gift. Also, since Yam's bday also falls during winter vacations, they have often travelled to the countryside together. I think since Jim and Yam are so tight, their parents are comfortable taking both of them on family vacations, they probably alternate which family takes the girls on a bday trip tbh.
Jim also wanted a Quince, but since they as big in Spain, her parents were not onbard with the idea. Don't worry though, Yam came to the rescue on that one.
Yam
Her bday is towards the end of the winter vacations, so on July 30th. As mentioned before, her and Jim do joint parties (and this continues post-show as well). Jim also gifts Yam the most meaningful presents (tho she changes what it is like 3 times before settling on what to give her.) Also Yam did have a Quince, despite not really being interested in the tradition. However, because Jim couldn't have one, she proposed to both her parents and Jim's that they should both celebrate one Quinceañera together. They wouldn't make a party bigger than the one Yam's family initially planned, so it would also be cost-effective (though if they are attending the Blake I imagine their parents are pretty well-off tbh). Yam even made a whole ass powerpoint presentation to convince them (it had graphs and all). Also, she designed both of their dresses. Since she had Jim with her for all the traditions, Yam also ended up having way more fun at their joint Quinces than she ever expected.
Nina
I feel like she's the oldest in her friend group. I'll say towards the end of summer vacation so... March 1st lets say. She is not one for big birthdays at all. Also, since her birthday still falls during the Summer Vacation, most of her friends would probably still be traveling, so she usually spends a chill day with her parents (and Mora, but she's basically her second mom). I do think her favorite birthday was in Season 2, where she celebrated it with Gastón (who Im electing to say returned from traveling earlier to surprise Nina).
I think Gaston wouldve already been gone to Oxford by the time her bday rolled around in Season 3, so they probably celebrated it earlier in Cancún (a very romantic day). That being said, they basically videocalled throughout most of her birthday anyways. And Luna and the Roller gang also threw Nina a small party the following day.
Pedro
Oldest of the cast, but still born in '97. Around mid-January. He prefers to celebrate with the RB with something small, but fun. Doesn't place too much importance on his birthday. Once him and Delfi start dating, they go to a different restaurant he wants to try out for his birthday.
OK I have once again written way too much so SPEEDRUN IN 3...2...1:
Delfi - Oldest in her year. February birthday, which is still during summer vacations. Thus, she celebrates through travelling.
Ramiro - August birthday, and does throw pretty fun parties. He seems to have friends beyond the main cast too (so he kinda has the biggest social life in a way), so his parties are big, and there is A LOT of dancing. As soon as he turned 18 he 100% celebrated by going club hopping.
Jazmín - June birthday, and ALSO throws big parties for her birthday. Her parties, while not being as high profile as Ámbar's, are pretty legendary.
Nico - Let's say September birthday. Also born in '97. Prefers celebrating with Simón and Pedro rather than big parties.
So, let's talk about some underrated dynamics! Dynamics that may have shown up for just a few scenes or episodes at most, or that IS featured a lot but is underrated in the fandom. Some of these for me are for example Yam and Simón - they interacted very little, but especially that scene where Simón hyped Yam up after singing with the roller band, it made me want them to interact more. Another underrated dynamic is Violetta, Diego, Francesca and Leon. I know the four spent time a lot in Madrid but there were very few scenes of all four hanging out, except for in one episode where they go sightseeing Madrid. And I found that to be very funny, especially how their chaotic energies bounce off each other.
There’s also dynamics that barely have any screentime, but it’s fun to think about how their dynamic would be. One of those for me, for some reason, is Yam and Ámbar. Maybe because they’re my two separate favorite characters and so I just like to imagine what would happen if they were locked in a room together and forced to talk (and I have written fics about that… plus they have these ”ventilation” sessions together talking about their issues that they don’t wanna tell anyone else in my fic ”Sunshine and Moonshine”).
But now I wanna hear your underrated dynamics that you wanna bring to the light!
Oh boi do I have a couple of those! I've been doing a rewatch/conscious watch-through of Soy Luna lately, so that may influence some of thesebut I have gotten to the point in season 2 where Luna is first trying to form the team for the Rodafest but can't get enough to sign up. We first saw Luna-Simón-Gastón be the first to sign up, but they didn't practice yet cause there weren't enough members and I, sort of would have REALLY liked seeing them practice? Gastón doesn't interact much with Luna OR Simón so it would have been fun to see them practice together! Same with us later seeing Jim-Luna-Gastón practice for a bit together! I'm not asking for a brotp to be born between them but I'd have liked seeing how their dynamics work as a team when left alone.
In general I would have loved seeing Jim and Yam have separate interactions with other characters more. Like, I love them together (It's hard to even mention one w/o the other) but they are still their own people and I think it would have been fun to see them interact separately with other characters, especially Jim since with Yam we do get some one-one scenes with other characters (Ex: you mentioned Ámbar-Yam, and in season 1 we saw Matteo convince Yam to rejoin the team, which was a scene I adored). Although I'd have liked seeing a scene of all the characters who end up pursuing music just jamming at least ONCE.
HECK, one of my favorite scenes was in season 3 with Jim telling Luna about overhearing Matteo and Emilia and it made me love her more because it shows how great of a friend she is!
Another dynamic that I adore/wish canon explored more are definitely Matteo and Nina. I just feel that they would be bro's in season 3 after Gastón left, since they were the closest characters to him and I see a potential brother-sister dynamic there. (Nina telling Matteo off in early season 1 is also a scene I really like and I feel we needed more of that imho).
OH and honestly, I would have loved a Delfi-Nina friendship develop after season 1 and I still feel ROBBED that Delfi's character regressed in b/w seasons 1 and 2.
Ok I will shut up now or else I might actually write a dissertation. I thank you cause this ask lowkey has made me think of so many new headcanons 😂

Ok, let us think about a fun scenario: The DCLA characters at a pride parade.
Do you think any of them dress up with fun T-shirts, or doing pride themed makeup? Anyone even having done signs or having brought with them their own pride flags? Anyone who goes all in? Do all of them go in the parade or do some of them just watch from the side? Maybe someone comes out at the pride parade by just revealing their flag to everyone; and of course, there’s people who are allies, and people who claim they’re straight allies but really they might be in the closet. And maybe there’s someone who doesn’t go, either because they don’t like crowds or because they don’t like pride parades for whatever reason… you can make up a full little story about what they’re up to at the pride parade, or just do a small rundown about people’s outfits and decorations.
Whatever you think about when thinking about how it would be for the dcla characters going to a pride parade!
OMG I AM SO SORRY FOR HOW LATE I AM. I've been so overwhelmed this past month (and it wont even stop this following month 🙃). But excuses aside, this is such a fun ask!
Starting off with the Roller Crew as a whole: I think during early post-season 3, in the short period before the team officially disbands and go their separate ways, they would all apply to do a skating choreo at the parade. Maybe this happens the timeskip before the RiverLive Fest (was that what it was called?). Or maybe the year after, since I imagine they’d all be in full training mode before the Festival anyways (not to mention the fact that the mansion got set on fire). It would be a very fun time for everyone and then they’d all hang out in the parade afterwards (Be it in smaller groups or as a bigger group, maybe a bit of both).
Luna
I feel like Luna would initially find out about the parade through one of her friends. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jim and Yam would be the first ones to invite her to come to the BA pride parade. She would be excited to go as soon as she learns about it, even before she realized she was also part of the lgbtq+ community.
I feel like she’d initially go as an spectator. However, in typical Luna Valente fashion, many times she’ll accidentally end up marching (skating, really) with a group that she met like 5 seconds ago and with whom she clicked very well. Later in her career, her and Ramiro would also participate in the parade with a special choreo each year. At least when they are not touring or at competitions. She’d definitely dress up and have pride themed makeup too! On more than one parade she has been seen skating wearing a flag. Her flags of choice are the Pride flag, the Pan flag (Cause I hc her as panromantic), the Ace flag, and the Demi flag. You can really trace her journey to discovering her sexual and romantic identity if you look at her photos with the flags in chronological order.
Ámbar
In Ámbar’s case I don’t think she would have ever considered asking Sharon if she could attend the parade, so I think her first time going would actually have been with the Roller Team!
She doesn’t really go all out, but if the people she’s going with decide to coordinate outfits, or to do a specific theme, she’ll happily participate. Left to her own volition, she’d probably do some pride themed makeup and nail art. I think for her first pride parade after she came out to Mónica, she gifted Ámbar a little Bi flag. Ámbar has had it with her at every single parade she’s attended ever since. She’s also more on the side of expectating the activities rather than participating in them. If Simón is performing though, you can guarantee that she’ll be at the very front cheering him on. She also enjoys going through the different stalls and shopping a bit. I feel like she gets Simón a pride-themed beanie or a bi-themed guitar pick.
Matteo
In earlier years I don’t think Matteo would have also gone to the parade due to the whole “diplomat’s son” image that has been drilled into him from a young age. Plus, I imagine that for him, on a (not so) subconscious level, attending the parade would mean confronting a side of himself that he was not ready to acknowledge nor accept. I imagine when he first attends, he’d just go as an ally and not really dress up.
Once he finally comes to terms with his sexuality (and after coming out to specific people beforehand), I can see Matteo coming out to the larger Roller Crew at a pride parade by wearing a bi-themed bowtie (which I’m choosing to say that he asked Yam if she could make one for him). I see him participating in more activities during the parade as he becomes more comfortable with his identity. So initially he’d just expectate and over the years he’d be more likely to go all out. (Though some years he still prefers to expectate). I also think he’d eventually want to sing as a musical act, maybe singing with the RB too. I feel that he’d stick with Gastón, Nina, and/or Luna the most, depending on his desired level of engagement with the activities. But he’d also hang out with the larger group when he enters “party mode”. Logically, his first parade would also be around season 3, but I refuse to believe that Gastón isn’t there, so I’m choosing to say his first attendance was in season 2. He was still very closeted/in denial back then though.
Simón
He 100% has a bi-themed beanie and a bi-themed flannel that he bought on his first pride and he wears on most, if not all parades ever since. He also probably wears a t-shirt with a different pride-themed pun each year. I just feel like that’s something he’d do. He did also convince Ámbar to wear Bi4Bi matching tshirts on year. He's quite proud of that achievement. Simón was also lowkey confused when he arrived to BA since pride takes place in November over there (So was Luna tbh).
I think in terms of the parade itself, he watches from the side, but he participates in the activities surrounding it. Especially the musical acts. I imagine the Roller Band applying and eventually playing at the parade. They’ve 100% invited Luna to sing Valiente with them at Pride too, and I feel that Alzo Mi Bandera is another song they definitely play. They've also played with Matteo and Yam on different occasions as well.
Nina and Gastón
Nina I see needing some convincing to go due to the large number of people in attendance, but I do think it’s pretty easy for her friends to convince her. Especially if it’s Luna or Gastón asking. That being said, her social battery would still probably run out pretty fast. Nina 100% would prefer to expectate, but she would also love to check out the books sold by different stalls. I think Gastón and her start a tradition where they each buy a book that they think the other will like, and at the end of the day (or when departing the parade) they exchange them. Gastón definitely also prefers to stay by Nina and/or Matteo’s side. He’ll probably overall prefer to expectate, but he does enjoy going to the stalls and listening to the musical acts as well. Especially cause those two activities involve his two favorite people.
Nico, Pedro, and Delfi
Nico and Pedro have been going for years now, probably since their high school days tbh. I feel like Pedro has also participated in the parade too, both in the pre and post-show. Nico usually just goes in support of his friends, but is more of a spectator (tho he ofc also plays with the RB). Pedro still goes with Delfi once they start dating and are out to each other, but they don’t participate much other than Pedro with the Roller Band and Delfi sometimes doing stuff for the Fab and Chic. She doesn’t go all out with her vlogs or videos as Jazmín though. Speaking of which:
Jazmín
Let's be real, Jazmín makes yearly parade vlogs, they're very popular. Then again, Jazmín’s videos are always extremely popular. She goes all out with her makeup and outfit. I'm talking intricate eyeshadow and nail art, as well as somehow maintaining her perfect look throughout the entire parade. She also loves going on shopping sprees in the merch stalls. Many small business have gotten a larger following due to Jazmín doing haul videos of the things she's bought during pride. Jazmín would also do makeup for her friends if they ask her. Actually, she'd offer to do their makeup even if they don't ask. Same with fashion advice.
Jim and Yam
Jim and Yam. I mean, they obviously also go all out. They ALWAYS coordinate outfits and makeup. I feel that Yam is also someone a lot of the crew go to for getting pride specific makeup or outfit ideas/requests. She’ll happily do them if she has enough of a heads up too. Jim also makes choreographies for the two of them to dance during the festivities, and they always attract quite a crowd! Their choreos can range from skating, singing, and dancing. I also see them incorporating the lesbian flag in their choreos a lot. They have also 100% participated in the parade itself multiple times too. They are out and proud, and have the most fun. I think they might have been the ones to come up with the idea of the Roller Team participating in the parade
Ramiro
Ramiro goes. All. Out. On many occasions he has arrived with his friends, and then no one sees him until the very end of the parade where he shows up with a completely different outfit and with 4 new friends. Like I mentioned earlier, after going pro, he and Luna skate in the parade quite frequently. He does solo skating acts even if Luna isn't available (and same goes for Luna). He’s for sure at the life of the party during the parade, and has crowd surfed multiple times. He probably also owns pride-themed skates that he wears during the parade.
Let's continue with the pride theme... and let's talk about queer ships!
They're around all months of the year (and I mean I am someone who spend a LOT of time analysing especially some certain wlw ships), but let's talk about them again. The DCLA fandom wouldn't be the same without our non-canon queer ships.
Do you have any certain favorite/s of the queer ships? Any that you feel extra obsessed with?
Is there any queer ship you've seen that you've encountered that surprised you, or that you never considered before? Or possibly a pairing you can get, but aren't really into yourself? Or one you didn't consider until you saw it and then NOW you ship it?
Any underrated ship, or possibly a pairing no one seems to ship but you? x) EVERYONE can be shipped with EVERYONE, so anything is possible <3
Jim and Yam are definitely up there in that I consider them canon. It's funny cause the first time I watched the show I took their friendship as it was presented. But then i saw someone somewhere point out that they were basically a couple and I went: "You know that actually makes the most sense tbh". I've shipped them ever since 😌 And also, lets be real: they match each other's freak the best.
Ambilia is interesting to me in that I also consider it my canon that they hooked up in Cancún. Heck, I imagine Emilia would probably been Ámbar's first too. I've also seen a couple of fics where Ámbar is dating both Simón and Emilia, and you know what? I really like that too!
Sitteo is probably my guilty pleasure of a dcla ship. Even tho I don't feel guilty abt shipping them. Most of the time I only view them as friends, but it is very fun to think of them as a couple every once in a while (plus theres so few fics of them on ao3, can't help but root for them).
Tbh, my mind was introduced to Emilia x Jazmin this year and I fucking ship it a lot. They'd do enemies to lovers so well! There's a lot of potential with those two and I enjoy the content I see of them.
As for ships that I see the appeal but don't personally ship: I may go against the flow but that would be Lunina and maybe also Gasmón. Listen, I 100% see the appeal, and they are very cute ships too. They're just not for me, at least at the moment. Maybe ill change my mind eventually though, cause I don't dislike them either.
Other ships that I like includ PedroxSimón and ÁmbarxNina, I think they're also quite fun ship dynamics! Oh, Ramtteo is also pretty fun too.
There's SO MANY pride-related asks I've been DYING to ask, so expect a lot of them now in june! <3
The first one will be a little of a hypothethical scenario: I know everyone has different sexuality headcanons, BUT, in this hypothetical situation... if the different characters came out as queer, how do you think their parents would react?
This can be especially fun with the characters we don't know the homelives of, cause I imagine a lot of you have different headcanons about that.
Happy Pride❣️❣️ Omg moving is so time consuming, Ive barely had time to do anything else (and to think that ill have to do it AGAIN in a month 😭). But alas, Im so happy I finally get to go back to answering these!
Let's See what my mind comes up with 😎 I'm very sleep deprived but I hope all of these made sense:
Luna
So we all know that Mónica and Miguel are like the best parents in the entire show (maybe the entire dcla but I dont have enough data to proof this). Hence, I think they'd be very accepting! Since I hc Luna being ace or demi/gray I don't think that they initially know what asexual means, much less it's different identities under that umbrella. But! They do their research and are still fully supportive from the getgo. I also don't imagine it being a big coming out scene with Luna to her parents, just a more casual conversation.
ALSO, Mónica 100% bakes lgbtq+ themed cupackes and desserts not just for Luna, but for ALL her friends. Especially for the parade!
Ámbar
So in an earlier ask I said that Ámbar never comes out to Sharon due to not feeling safe enough to do so. I still maintain this stance, but let's go to an alternate universe where she does for a sec.
I think Sharon would be dismissive. She would call Ámbar confused and tell her she'll realize soon enough that she's straight. She would also warn her to not say anything as "outrageous" as that ever again, much less in public, as it would reflect poorly on her Then Sharon would leave to sleep without even letting Ámbar reply. This would be devastating to her and needless to say, I think this would really cause a rupture in their relationship. Ámbar would also refrain from even considering dating another girl too and she'd never come out to anyone again.
That is, until:
Mónica. (Because she IS Ámbar's mom, I'll die on this hill). I hc that no matter the universe, Ámbar does come out to Mónica. And she is not only fully accepting, but the most supportive person to Ámbar. I think Mónica would hug Ámbar and thank her for sharing this important part of her. Ámbar would probably cry, but they would be happy and relieved tears ❤️🩹. The next day, Ámbar spots Mónica researching a recipe to make Bisexual themed milkshakes.
Matteo
His dad is definitely not the most accepting person in the world (re: disowning him for wanting to be a musician) and I feel that his has a specific vision for Matteo's live. Anything that doesn't fit that, he rejects. This is especially true considering his dad is a diplomat, so Matteo is probably expected to act a certain way in order to represent his dad and to a larger extent, his country, multiple times. (Very similar to Ámbar tbh).
For those reasons, (and cause I imagine his dad being on the conservative side) Matteo would not only be in denial abt his sexuality, but also probably look to remain in the closet forever if he can help it, at least in front of his dad. If/when he did, it'd go similar to Ámbar. However, neither Matteo nor his dad know when to let go, so I feel like Matteo would try more times to come out to his dad and it'd probably end similarly to when he told him he wanted to be a musician, with Matteo being cut off, if not disowned. In that case I do think that he'd even crash at Gastón's for a while too.
I can also see Matteo's dad conveniently only being "accepting" of his sexuality in order to push his own agenda. For example, if Matteo had to write an application essay for Oxford. His dad would keep pushing him to do it and one of the things he'd say to him would be along the lines of: "you can even talk about how being gay gives you makes you a unique candidate" (Matteo had already told him countless times that bisexuality and homosexuality were different things). So yeah, things are not great for a long while.
While Im def not the biggest fan of Matteo's dad, I do think he loves his son (albeit in a toxic way). It would take something as drastic as Matteo son being cut off from his life for his dad to eventually come around and start working on accepting his son's sexuality. Would have to work hard to improve the broken relationship and it'd take years, but I do think that they'd get to a somewhat better place eventually.
Simón
Thank fuck I get to a happier section. I hc Simón's family as being very supportive of him and his siblings! Simón's coming out to his family would probably in the middle of a dinner table, where he had prepared a whole speech. But then his siblings would talk over one another and never actually let him get to the point until he yells: "Would you SHUT IT? I'M TRYING TO COME OUT AS BI OVER HERE".
After that there'd be exactily 1.1 second of silence before his siblings start handing each other money because they had made bets about Simón's sexuality years ago. Simón is "offended" but also very thankful that they were very accepting. After all of the chaos, his parents do go to him in private and hug him telling him they accept him fully. It was another night were Simón felt very grateful to have the family he has.
With his grandma, he would have done it one-one, and he would have been very nervous as she is a very Catholic woman. But she was very accepting of him and higged him tight. Simón was ectastic and emotional. I do think that she had her reservations abt it at first, but she solved it in less than 5 minutes and never let Simón feel anything other than supported. I imagine it went something like this tbh:
Nina
So she was very nervous about coming out to her parents and decided to do so separately to each one of them. She'd have also done a LOT of research -neatly organized in a binder- in order to land into the panromantic demisexual label. She then takes a copy of the binder to Ana when she comes out in lieu of answering the many questions that Ana would have. To be fair to Ana, I think she'd be accepting, but also confused about the terms, so the research binder really helps ease a lot of her confusion.
I also think the binder comes in handy when Ana's overprotectiveness makes her fear about Nina facing any sort of hate due to her sexuality. It comes from a well meaning place, but when it becomes too much for Nina, she just points at the binder and tells Ana that she's ALSO done her own research on dealing with bigotry. I also think that Nina makes sure that Mora is in the room when she comes out to Ana in order to also come out to her, and so that Mora can also mediate b/w Nina and Ana if necessary. Mora is ecstatic and fully supportive from the getgo.
Her coming out to Ricardo also involved the binder, but it would be a more chill conversation instead of a whole planned out operation like Nina planned with Ana. Ricardo is also fully supportive and accepting no questions asked.
Gastón
The sexuality chameleon himself. If he ends up not being straight, I think he feels very safe in his relationship with his parents that he's not nervous when he comes out to them. He does sit them down with him in a "we have to talk" kind of way. But other than that, it is a mature conversation that is met with hugs and full support from his parents.
Jim
I think Jim was very nervous about coming out to her parents, but more due to one parent than the other, maybe her mother. I hc (As of now) Jim's mom being a little more on the traditionalist side and envisioning her daughter to marry a man and start a family in the future. For this reason she is not so accepting at first when Jim comes out.
Fortunately, I do think that Jim's father is more accepting. He doesn't fully understand, but he immediately tells Jim that he loves her no matter what. This really helps comfort Jim after her mom's initial reaction of rejection.
I also think that Yam may be present when Jim comes out to her parents! She's holding Jim's hand the entire time under the table, but refrains from talking unless necessary (ie. if she needs to defend Jim from her mom, but Jim's dad also takes care of that front pretty quickly). I think that Jim's dad is instrumental in her mom coming around eventually too, which she does do after about a week. It also helps that her mom, despite being a bit of a traditionalist, can clearly see that Jim is at her happiest with Yam.
Yam
I think Yam's parents are more open-minded than Jim's. I'd see them being the ones who are just waiting for Yam to tell them her and Jim are dating. Yam will still come out to them and her older sister (whom I have just now headcanoned into existance). She does so with Jim at her side as well (They are together through it all). Ultimately, Yam's entire family is very happy for her (and Jim). Her sister does also say something along the lines of "about time". Afterwards, they all go to dinner together.
Jazmín
She 100% came out in the most Jazmín-way possible made a coming out video at the JaJazmín. She then uploaded it and had a "premiere" dinner with her parents. They were surprised, and a bit confused as to what was going on (cause in the video Jazmín doesn't even come out as a lesbian until the last 10 seconds), but they were still pretty accepting.
Ramiro
He raps to his parents about it. Ok in all seriousness, I think it's a casual conversation. I think that while Ramiro knows he's not straight, he does not want to label himself beyond that. He's Ramiro, and that's all that matters. I also think his parents are pretty accepting of him. Heck, they probably had harder time accepting that Ramiro wanted to skate professionally (although I hc them being more worried about his future income rather than actually being against his choice of career).
Him coming out was probably his mom looking at an lgtbq+ pin that he had gotten recently and going: "So you're not straight?" and Ramiro going "Nah". That was all that was said on the matter.
Pedro
I mostly hc as him specifically not really coming out to anyone other than Nico, Simón, and Delfi. But he also doesn't hide him being pansexual at all. For that reason I think it's unspoken and his parents know. They never questioned him and tbh they are accepting of him regardless. Pedro also knows this, he feels comfortable in his relationship with his parents to know that they accept him and that's enough for him. (Tbh, similar to Ramiro, Pedro's dad made a bigger deal of him pursuing music as a career than his sexuality).
Delfi
She came out to her brothers first, mostly because she wanted to practice how to approach her parents about her sexuality. Despite the fact that each sibling annoys each other, her brothers were very supportive (in their own annoying way).
Her parents were confused cause I think she came out while dating Pedro and they weren't familiar with bisexuality. Delfi had to answer a couple of questions and explaining things a bit to her parents, but I do think they come around pretty quickly.
Nico:
He's pretty straight in my eyes but if he wasn't I'd see his parents being very accepting. They do warn him to not tell his uncle Gary because they all know it wouldn't go well. He heeds their advice cause he already figured.
