The pacing of the story for this first patch of Midnight was way too damn fast. I felt that devastation when the Sunwell was suddenly destroyed and I wanted them to hold me in that despair for WEEKS, months even. I wanted to feel like everything would end, I wanted to be horrified that there might not be a good outcome and wonder what the hell Xal'atath might do next with this newfound terror. That was the juicy sword they could have stabbed us with and left us bleeding for so long with, questioning if our characters would even survive. Then they resolved it with their first plan and man it was just.. a let down. Make the plans fail, they already failed in saving the Sunwell, let the plans to stop the Darkwell fail a ton! Fortunately, I don't give a fuck on the technical pacing since they decided expacs are now super speed and you can't sit with one for 2 whole years anymore. So as I write out my own characters part in this story, I am spreading this Darkwell shit out for so long, it deserves to be horrifying, it deserves to make my character feel so fucking hopeless that she's completely loses her optimism, so on edge everyday wondering what the hell is about to come out of the dark well.

Tuesday, December 12: Darkwell, "Far Cry"
“Far Cry” started out as a bit of a departure for Austria’s Darkwell, beginning with more aggressive drumming and chunky riffing upfront, even feeling almost vaguely industrial. But then the operatic lady vocals and prominent piano brought it all back to their goth metal foundation. And even with Stephanie Luzie temporarily replacing Alexandra Pittracher at the mic, the band’s sound largely remained consistent if slightly more “modern” in a 2004 sort of way. “Far Cry” didn’t really play with existing form beyond that intro, but its reach didn’t exceed its grasp and was generally a good example of what goth metal had to offer.
