hey joey :3 as my favourite dark!matt truther, I am offering my thoughts on the topic to you, hihi
ddba s1!matt who leans more into his sadistic urges with the reader, since he doesn't have access to his usual escapades. him getting rougher as weeks go by, maybe paranoid, anxious and thus controlling as well, so the reader stays home for longer and more often :333 ughhhh, love the idea of him losing his marbles a bit :33 and also the gradual stockholm syndrom, perchance? if that interests you :))
dark!matt they could never make me hate you
tw kidnapping, abusive/controlling dynamics, mentions of physical assault, dark!matt, etc. ddne!!! (also this got away from me omg 1.3k words)
haii theo :3... "IF THAT INTERESTS ME"???? it is all i can ever think about at all times.......... thank you for these delicious thoughts. your brain is always a joy to pick.
not spoiling my whole wip so here's something a little different from it but oh my goodness, the foresight you've had with sadistic, increasingly paranoid ddba s1!matt. while he's had many many crashouts in canon, this side of him still felt a little underexplored to me :P (where are his auditory hallucinations and increasingly risky behaviours đđ€Č (that are more out of the ordinary than the standard matt murdock risky behaviours......))
i adore the idea of this with a sort of hyperindependent reader, someone who's always taken care of herself and has always had to, who bristles first and pushes back against matt's every paternalistic, borderline condescending "let me handle it," etc... then eventually welcoming the change of pace, slowly allowing another person to take care of you for once and weather your fickle nature, and you think oh, maybe it's nice to have someone who shows up after all, who knows where you are, who you know won't leave like anyone else. :)
meanwhile, on matt's sadistic tendencies aka that addiction to anger and that need to hurt... like what we saw in the defenders, taking a break from daredevil has him already suffering from all these withdrawal symptoms thanks to going cold turkey on the mask, not to mention the loss of his two closest friends and loves of his life. without even the outlet of daredevil to loosen him up and get all that energy going, to hurt for "good reasons," all it does is ossify into more paranoia and abandonment issues. he can try to exercise reasoning, but the fact of the matter isâhe's realizing that historically, whatever or whoever it is he loves either gets taken from him or leaves. interestingly though, even after all that suffering post the beginning of ddba s1, already having grown bitter and cynical, he never loses his faith (such a catholic lol) because there is quite literally nothing else to hold on to.
so when the reader falls into his life, it feels to him like god's finally extending him an olive branch, a second chance he doesn't deserve but is absolutely not giving back. maybe he, too, tries to be sensible at first just like you. isn't it moving too fast? aren't you too young for him? he tries to think with his head, or with his (weakened) values at the very leastâ but at this point, he's already too partial to his own impulses, and god, this blunt, fresh, vibrant earnestness that you have is so endearing to him.
he doesn't like thinking about it too much, but if put to the light, a big part of it is how unmoored you are, too. to love someone already fully-put together is different; but to have someone he can see his younger self in (with how hostile and closed off you are to the world initially) that he can guide and still help growâto turn out better than he didâtugs at those heartstrings of his, that sense of justice and righteousness and that nasty savior complex rearing its head.
it's to the point that he unexpectedly gets way too entangled with you at a pace even he doesn't expect. until losing you is already unthinkable to him at that point. he'll fight tooth and nail to double down now, grip tighter, whatever; he's learned his lesson.
and maybe for a few months it really is all idyllic sunshines and rainbows. maybe you are, for all intents and purposes, happy.
but being retired doesn't erase his ability to hear all the things still happening around the city, though. now that he has something to lose, he gets more and more strung up with it over time. more difficult to reason with. gradually becoming even more controlling, demanding where were you, why didn't you call, why didn't you tell me where you were going, and telling you to be more careful (because he isn't exactly cleaning up the streets anymore - this is left unsaid), barring you from staying out too late with your friends, even telling you not to act like a child when you inevitably "call him out" for being "controlling." he scoffs at that one, which seems to be your favorite word to throw around lately. controlling. is it truly "controlling" if he does know exactly how dangerous it is out there? does he really deserve such a reductive title, and from someone who claims to love him, no less?
maybe he can't trust you enough to want to take care of yourself, either. after all, you're in the spring of your lifeâhe was that age once, and he'd had the recklessness to show for it then, too.
it's only downhill from there as matt, as you put it, starts to lose his marbles (omg that deranged, absent look he has sometimes that's reminiscent of his confession in s1e1âjack murdock's face going 'flat and cold' before beating people in cold blood) thinking of you possibly pulling away and leaving. as i see it, there's a lot of possibilities that could happen, but chief among them:
one, the slow burn c/o matt murdock: matt at his most insidious, charismatic, paternalistic. keeping you inside the apartment as much as he can. it's a bit of a workaround to keep you happy staying in there at first thoughâhe can only take so much back-and-forths of saccharine wheedling and hostile insults from you before he eventually concedes and lets you out, teaching you a lesson the hard way by letting you get a bit rattled and scared from a little mugging or a 'stalker case' he definitely has nothing to do with. of course, he's sure to (anonymously) come to your rescue before you get seriously hurtâjust enough for you to finally see that he is right, it's a dangerous world out there, and your actions have consequences. it's nicer, instead, to come home straight to someone who worries about you, who provides for you, who you can always rely on to be there and have dinner at the ready. you were in over your head to think that you could handle being safe on your own.
and it's funnyâyou don't even realize that you've stopped fighting until one day you think of leaving, and the thought of walking out that door without telling him already feels wrong. akin to the feeling of the start of a fever; nauseating. how could you have once wanted nothing more than to leave?
two, the crude, brute strength way, c/o letting the devil out, where instead of being docile, reader's headstrong and actively struggling trying to resist these disgusting, controlling fucking rules and behaviour. that's alright though, it just leaves him no choice but to subdue you and muscle you into submission. it doesn't matter what it takes; he's handled a lot worse than you; bigger, more relentless rogues. no, dealing with you is comparable to child's play, a lot more simple: you'll end up chained to his grimy closet if you're being bad, and then later on by his bed, if you're being good. âand if you're being really bad, then don't worry! you've got months of bed rest to heal that broken ankle he's given you to incapacitate you. and there's only so much he can do to convince even himself that he doesn't want you struggling so you won't get hurtâno, he does want you to struggle, to kick and scream and hurt him if you really want. that way, he can do the same to you, and you'll know he's enjoying it. the panicked rush of blood to the head and arteries as you thrash and scratch and bite him trying to get away, his pulse spiking vividly with fury and yours with fear as you writhe under his weight, his hands binding your wrists behind your back. it's the most alive he's felt since he stopped going out, and it's better than any hit. those deafening twin heartbeatsâhis and yoursâmake everything feel so alive, like nothing's been before, so intolerably erotic.
in any case, no other word can more aptly describe him than toxic, having bought into it so completely and too far gone now no matter how plainly wrong it already is. unjustifiable. he's never one to do anything halfheartedly though, good deed or otherwise. :DD
and when confronted with the question: why are you doing this? there are only two answers to be given, reminiscent of what he's already confessed to before : because it's for your own good. / and because i enjoy it.
i'll save the captivity + stockholm syndrome and the smut for the actual work but let's just say: abduction, non-con themes, object insertion, overstim, breeding, gaslighting;; among the many other crimes of atty. matt murdock. put this guy in jail pls like raynao.

Role Swap!AU where the Holts are Altean and advisors to the royal family. When the boys find Allura, itâs Pidge that comes out with her. Most of the Earth events are the same, but Pidge & Allura are distressed because they know what happened to their parents but not Coran & Matt. Itâs like they just disappeared. Record showed they were put in sleep pods too but they arenât there.
Sam Holt was the Yellow Lionâs pilot and was killed with the other Paladins. Allura is a dedicated leader and believes she can best serve the team by piloting the castle ship. Pidge is reluctant, because of her dadâs death, but she pilots the green lion. She still goes with Shiro to get it, and the team still thinks sheâs a boy. But Alteans donât care much about gender roles, so she never really thinks to correct them.
Meanwhile, Haggar is a lot more fierce in this universe. The Galra are more ferocious and have a violent mastermind as their tactician. The team dubs him âThe Chessmaster.â Overall, thereâs a lot more ârunning and trying to establish base but constantly being hunted downâ then in the main universe, because of how cunning the Chessmaster is. Thereâs also a mysterious figure usually in the shadows whenever Haggar is around. Shiro has memories of him but his PTSD makes it hard to recall anything useful.
Because of this, it takes longer for Shiro to get his bayard and the team to incapacitate Zarkon. It still happens, but because Pidge is an Altean pilot, she figures out the Shiro clone situation much, much sooner and Allura is able to remedy things. Also, Haggar is asked by the Galra generals if Prince Lotor should be summoned. Haggar scoffs and says that Honervaâs son is useless, but her son will be able to lead them to victory. The shadow figure steps forward and kneels, stating that heâs ready to do as his mother requires.
This universe is darker and team Voltron struggles a lot with gaining their footing. The Chessmaster spreads anti-Voltron propaganda that actually works, and the team has a hard time getting alien societies to trust them. Itâs made worse by the fact that anti-Altean messages have been reinforced since Altea was destroyed, so the team tries to hide the fact that one of their pilots is Altean and not human. Itâs difficult enough getting people to listen to Allura, their non-pilot Altean leader.
Lotor actually joins up with Voltron in this universe. Because of âHaggarâs Son,â he was pretty much completely cast aside by Zarkon at a young age. He had a nanny but was never given any real power and mostly grew up isolated and alone. When he became an adult, he tried to further his motherâs research in power sources, and he got trapped in the belly of a Weblum for thousands of years until Keith saved him. So basically, he has emotional baggage but heâs not crazy like his main universe counterpart.
Things go a bit better with Lotor on their side, but the sucker punch really comes when Allura and Pidge find out who the new prince and the Chessmaster are. Back when Altea was destroyed, Matt and Coran were put in the sleep pods. But they set the timers to last only a few minutes. They then snuck out, against Alforâs orders, in a last ditch attempt to sabotage the Galra fleet and save everyone. But Haggar caught them.
Seeing Matt, a talented young man with so much potential who felt very familiar to her warped mind, she decided to take him as her son. This, of course, meant he needed many....modifications. Revisions to both his mental state and his body. It was similar with Coran, whom she had once loved like a brother. He became her Chessmaster. Their fates were worse than death, and discovering the truth crushes Allura and Pidge.

More prompts by @deniigi ! This time its "You saw nothing." Also as a heads up, this one's courtesy of Dark!Matt.
"Matt, I have to go!" Foggy gestured wildly about.
"You could get hurt!"
"I'll be okay! You can't keep thinking there are demons around every corner."
"I can't let you get hurt." Tears were welling up in Matt's eyes.
"I have to. It's for our client. She's counting on us."
"I won't let you." Matt's voice deepened, touching on the Daredevil growl.
"What are you going to do, make me?"
"I don't want to."
"But you'll try." Foggy rolled his eyes, and made for the door.
Matt grabbed his wrist. "Please."
Foggy jerked his hand away. He went to grab the doorknob.
That was the wrong thing to do. Matt pounced. He grabbed both of Foggy's hands and forced his arms behind his back, drawing Foggy into a hug, burying his face into Foggy's neck. Foggy felt tears soak into his shirt, and Matt whispering please please please.
Foggy thrashed against Matt, trying to break Matt's grip, but it was useless. Then Foggy screamed.
"Foggy, Foggy, please, stop screaming," Matt said as he gagged Foggy with his pocket square. Matt removed his tie, then used it to tie Foggy's hands together.
Then Foggy started to cry.
"Please, please, please don't cry." Matt brushed away the tears. He then hoisted up Foggy on his shoulder. Foggy attempted to kick and knee at Matt, but it was like kicking a stone wall. Matt then sat Foggy down on his bed, grabbing his legs, and picking a belt off the floor, bound Foggy's legs together.
Matt went back to hugging Foggy, running his fingers through his hair. "I can't let you go, I can't let you get hurt," Matt muttered, as if that made any of this okay. And then, louder, more sincere. "I'm sorry." They sat like that for a while, Foggy sobbing, Matt absentmindedly running his fingers through Foggy's hair.
Then a knock came from the door.
Foggy wanted to scream at whoever it was to run. Matt was dangerous, and Foggy didn't want anyone else getting caught up in this. Matt got up, leaving Foggy on his bed, and opened the door.
"Hey Karen. What's up?" That made it worse. She needed to run. Karen wouldn't run, though.
"I'm supposed to be meeting with Foggy right now. What are you doing here?"
"Waiting for Foggy." Lying bastard. Foggy was here already, just a bit tied up at the moment.
Karen's footsteps echoed against the hardwood floor, bringing her into the living room, and then, she turned.
"What the fuck?!" She shouted.
Foggy and her made eye contact. She started walking over to him. Foggy tried to convey to her that Matt had finally snapped, to go away, get away, she can't fight Matt on her own.
But Matt had snuck up behind her, pulled her away from the room, then closed the door. His eyes did their best to meet Karen.
Karen cleared her throat, then spoke, measuredly. "Matt, why is Foggy tied up in his own bedroom?"
Kuro purred and plopped his head onto Matt's head, his fluff tipped ears twitching slightly as he wrapped his arms around him in a very lazily manner.
Matt clicked his tongue as he paused in whatever he had been doing. âKuro⊠to what do I owe this visit?â He asked while putting down pen he had been using on the holopad as he glanced up at the other.
