The Danum Roman Shield and Replica, Danum, Doncaster.
To date this is the only example of its kind thought to exist across the former Roman Empire. It may well have survived because it was thrown on a fire shortly before Danum Roman Fort was abandoned circa 105CE. Analysis shows it was likely leather clad with decorated celtic motifs and was probably owned by an auxiliary soldier from a Gallic tribe in North West Europe.
