Everyone needs to listen to this Final Lair at least once in their life. Genuinely, the most emotionally charged and intense Final Lair I’ve ever seen.

Who's your favourite stage Enjolras? Mine is Daniel Diges!
Oh, the same, Nonny! He absolutely defined the stage role for me from the first clips I saw of him and not even my favorite other performances have displaced him !

In 2010, Spain's entry 'Algo Pequeñito (Something Tiny)' by Daniel Diges had to be performed twice. The first performance was interrupted by Catalonian Jaume Marquet Cots, otherwise known as Jimmy Jump, who jumped on stage during the performance and began to dance along. At first, people thought it was a part of the act, but he was soon escorted off the stage.
Jimmy Jump is infamous for interrupting famous European events. For this interruption, he was fined 15,000 Norwegian kroner, which ended up being paid by a Norwegian business man who was a fan of his work.

Barcelona, Spain | El Fantasma de la Ópera (12/14/2025) Review
The main trio I saw was Daniel Diges, Ana San Martín, and Rubén López
The show starts with a VERY LOUD mirror-shattering sound. Thank you Barcelona for the near-heart attack
I love the use of a rotating stage in this production, although it can feel restricting at times (such as everyone squeezing in on the small rectangular space for Hannibal)
Love how they did the time reversal thing, showing many cast members such as the Il Muto trio, the ballet rats, Christine and Meg in the dressing room scene, etc
Technically no Reyer? He’s always hidden in some way, such as below the stage with only his voice or behind the piano during the Don Juan rehearsal where we can only see him when he raises his hand
Love the use of chiffon cloths in the slave girl choreography, feels more ethereal
Piangi broke the bottom of the sedan chair/ litter when he got on lol
Love Marta Pineda’s Carlotta, she slapped André in the face during the aria, then also spit in his face lol (the audience had a great laugh at that)
When the managers said, “These things do happen,” Carlotta literally squeezed Piangi’s face between her hands and stared into his eyes, as if to say, “Did he really say what I thought he said?”
I adore Ana’s voice, it actually gave me goosebumps when she sang Think of Me
Sofia Esteve’s Meg is very tomboyish (which I love), the “rehearsals, always rehearsals” line was delivered in a teasing tone as she hopped out the door, with Isabel Malavia’s Mme. Giry showing a fond smile as Meg brushed past (love this mother-daughter dynamic)
Rubén is one of those very attractive Raoul who exudes all kinds of charm, I was honestly charmed by him during the dressing room scene
The scones on the sides of the mirror flickering when Christine and Raoul hugged in the dressing room scene 👀 (Phantom angy)
Daniel has a very electrifying/magnetic phantom voice, it’s literally my type
We get an ALMOST KISS when Erik lifted Christine off the boat, their lips were literally a hair's breadth away… the way they looked at each other too MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT 😭
ALL THE HANDS from Daniel during the title song (but the hand movements when he tells Christine to sing are reminiscent of the six-seven gesture… sorry I’m a Gen Z I had to)
Music of the Night is delivered with the phantom sitting on the organ bench? Love that he holds out his music sheet to Christine though, like a physical representation of him wanting her to accept his music of the night
Even more hands when Phantom held Christine to his chest
Why does this Phantom only have a small single bed?? I think all his monthly salary went to the candles on his organ… lol
Daniel’s Phantom is so into his music. This man was rocking back and forth on his bench, waving his quill in the air, writing here and there. Some would call him crazed, but I loved how exaggerated his movements were here
The way Erik slid over on the bench for Christine to sit beside him during STYDI, Christine reaching out to touch his cheek, him melting into her touch, just for the mask to be snatched away with her other hand
Daniel’s scream is probably one of the most anguished ones I’ve ever heard. We catch a glimpse of the feral Erik here, but he also very quickly dissolves into violent sobs and rocks himself back and forth after his anguished “Por qué” (Daniel does this a lot throughout the show)
Buquet holding the noose to Mme Giry’s throat like one would a sword was a shock
Interesting how the Phantom’s notes are blue
Each person mentioned in the notes gets their own personal pink spotlight when the phantom is talking about them
Love the Il Muto stage setup, Don Attilio goes out to a makeshift balcony that can be seen through a transparent screen. Weird how the doors on the backdrop are curtains instead of actual doors though
Ana makes for a very adorable page boy 🥰
During the Il Muto cadenza, Marta Pineda’s Carlotta sings while uh… lifting her bosoms with her arms according to the notes. I don’t know how else to explain it…
Love the use of lights in this production. There are two rows of lights, one closer to the stage and one above the audience. So when the lights flash during the phantom’s threats, it felt very immersive :D
Not Firmin waving André onstage, André looks so lost and terrified like a little puppy lol
Will never get over Phantom swinging around on his rope
AIAOY is performed with Raoul and Christine kneeling most of the time on an elevated platform. At the beginning, Raoul is scared by Christine standing so close to the edge, and he calls her back to sit/kneel next to him.
Multiple deep kisses from these two 👀
Phantom appears from BELOW the platform Raoul and Christine were just on. He crawls out from between the arched wooden beams below the platform for the AIAOY Reprise
It was so interesting to watch the Phantom cut the ropes of the chandelier instead of the Il Muto bows. And when the chandelier went down, the entire auditorium flashed red, followed by screams ringing out from all corners. I’m just saying, this is the most immersive chandelier crash I’ve ever experienced 👀
I don’t remember which one, but one of the managers is wearing a pink princess dress for the masquerade lol
The screen that’s usually covering the stage was tilted and turned into a mirror to make the stage and the masquerade crowd look even bigger
The masquerade attendees are wearing full masks and cloaks, which kinda reminds me of the Venetian carnival. And the way they move around reminds me of the Russian dance Berezka
During Masquerade, the actors move off the stage to stand in front of the first row of the audience and the boxes on each side of the theatre. The lights above bathe the auditorium in an array of colors as they sing the last few lines of Masquerade. This was the moment I fell in love with this production
This production’s Red Death reminds me of the Red Death illustrated by André Castaigne, the slimmer and longer cascading red fabric instead of the more voluminous ones we see in other productions
While everyone is frozen in place, the phantom disappears from the stage and appears standing next to Christine in front of the first row of the audience, snatching her ring and catching everyone off guard. I was so jealous of the people in the front orchestra at that moment
When Raoul was asking Mme. Giry about the Phantom, the backdrop turned purple like the night sky with glowing yellow stars like the constellations, forming shapes like the Ferris wheel while Mme. Giry talks about the Phantom’s past. It was so pretty :3
Actually love Carlotta’s condescending tone when she saw Christine in the office, especially when she stares at Christine after her confession and just says “Está loca”
Love how impassioned Rubén’s Raoul sounded when he threatens the Phantom
Not only does this production’s piano play by itself during the Don Juan rehearsal, it also spins by itself! It was a bit overkill in my opinion lol
Love this production for placing the Daae headstone at the front of the stage, so that we can see Christine’s expression as she sings Wishing instead of just seeing her back for half of the song
This dark angel’s got wings, Christine! …lol
The fireball and sound effects made the Phantom’s threats feel even more real than all other productions ngl
We actually have a guard standing in the mezzanine among the audience! The way he waves his gun around while trying to track the Phantom’s voice scared me a bit, cause he aimed the gun in my direction at one point 🥴 When I said this production felt immersive, I meant it
Meg Giry dressed in men’s clothes and slapping a woman on the butt lol. Tomboy Meg my beloved
The spiciest PONR I’ve seen to date 🫣
Daniel’s phantom is visibly shaking during PONR. This man was grasping his clothes, his knees, anything to steady himself when Christine sat down next to him with her WHOLE LEG EXPOSED. How this version of Erik wrote Don Juan I have no idea lol
Even more hands from Daniel when he reached out to touch Christine’s exposed skin 👀
I’ve been seeing more and more productions with Erik unveiling himself during PONR these days
Interesting how Rubén’s Raoul also holds his arms out to block the guards from shooting, I’m assuming he’s only doing this to protect Christine, but it’s hard to tell
The most desperate begging I’ve heard for Erik to date. I want to hug Daniel’s phantom so badly
One of the managers dropping a lantern into the orchestra? If someone else has seen this production please let me know what they said before they dropped the lantern
Super long and sustained note from Daniel during the line “Down that path into darkness deep as hell!”
We get a fully feral and broken Erik in Final Lair
This is the most emotionally charged and intense Final Lair EVER. I stand by that. My hands were covering my mouth the whole time, I was THAT shocked.
Also, Erik, why is your shirt UNBUTTONED. What happened on the way down to the lair would cause that?? (Not complaining tho, it’s a full view of his chest 👀)
Erik shoves the wedding dress into Christine’s arms before Christine throws it to the ground. She does the same after he places the veil on her head.
Daniel’s Erik DRAGGED Rubén’s Raoul across the stage when Raoul was just crawling in from under the portcullis
Gosh, the way Erik just watches hopelessly and with despair as Raoul and Christine embrace one another
Daniel’s Erik is one that is so far past the breaking point and just straight up feral. He would be sobbing and rocking himself back and forth in one moment, then switches from a low growl to screaming the loudest “You try my patience!” I’ve ever heard in the next.
I just know this Erik was broken by Christine’s kiss all over again. He was full on sobbing after the kiss, he even wailed when he let Raoul free from the noose. This man is beyond repair, there’s no beneath a moonless sky with this Erik
Rubén is very good at playing dead. This man was barely struggling. Ana’s sob after the kiss basically hints at her also thinking it’s too late and that Raoul’s dead. Even when the phantom let him down from the noose, Raoul collapsed to the floor and was barely moving. Erik and Christine had to work together to carry him to the boat.
This Erik is just STRONG AF. Even after all the emotional turmoil, he’s still got the strength to push the boat out for Christine and Raoul to escape in.
Super loud wail as he shouts at the two to leave him
Daniel’s Erik rocks himself back and forth in an effort to calm and comfort himself next to the monkey music box. LET ME HUG HIM PLEASE I BEG.
The way he called out for Christine several times after she had already returned the ring and left. LET. ME. HUG. HIM!!!!
Even more sobbing and wailing. At this point I was sobbing too.
When Erik went to hide beneath the covers, Mme. Giry catches a glimpse of him but directs the mob to look the other way. It was only when the movement caught Meg’s attention that the mob moved towards the bed.
Mme. Giry and Meg hold the mask up together.
All in all, Daniel’s portrayal of the Phantom and all the details and thoughts that went into this production have completely won me over. Barcelona production on 🔝!!!
