To My Abandoned Crackship [Doomed Timelines Prompt 1/2]

So, there's only ONE fic of this ship on AO3, so I'm writing this in the hopes someone sees it and changes that. Why 1/2? Because this first part explains how they started dating, and the second focuses more on what they're like as a couple.

Disclosure: I'm using the trope that Dan has a body harvested and is now a halfa, so they're contemporaries in age (well, as much as two time travelers can be). Art used: @misaki_pot on Twitter.

So, Dan has been adjusting to being half-human and living in Amity Park for a while. He is still on parole and serving his sentences without (much) complaint. But because most of them are errands or jobs that will recur in the future, he comes to that specific sentence he'd been putting off until last:

Apologizing to Bart Allen.

He'd been avoiding it because, if he's right, Bart should remember him. But he decides to just throw everything to hell and get it over with.

For Bart, when the younger version of the megalomaniacal monster who, in the future, was responsible for decimating half of the JL and whose fact he hasn't told anyone shows up at his apartment to apologize, can anyone blame him for freezing?

He's seriously trying not to have a panic attack while Dan offers to take him out to dinner as part of the apology, and Bart, still processing the situation, just nods.

Dan leaves after that to make preparations for that dinner, and Bart finally has his meltdown. But in true Speedster fashion, he quickly moves on and starts planning. Because while part of him wants to give him the benefit of the doubt, the other part knows what Dan is capable of.

And here I'm going to use a comic that fully explains how this would play out:

“To defeat my enemy... I must study my enemy!” This is Bart pre-dinner and post-meltdown.

«Know my enemy.» This is Bart showing up for dinner. Dan is surprised he did it, but lets it be. The dinner, though delicious, was somewhat awkward. Bart seizes the opportunity and tells Dan they should be friends.

«Keep an eye on my enemy.» This is a couple of days after dinner. Bart, under the guise of strengthening their friendship, stops by Amity often to hang out with Dan.

Dan finds this odd, and though cautious, again lets it be and anyone who says he's hopeful this will actually blossom into a friendship is a lying liar who lies and hates him.

«Become My Enemy (???).» Dan is the heir to DalvCo and a Fenton, so of course he's a bit of a mad scientist. And Bart is the same (although their vibes are on different levels), so they end up bonding through this.

«Getting to know my enemy even MORE.» Months after dinner, and thanks to having bonded and gotten to know each other better, they're comfortable enough to talk about certain topics: More specifically, the Infinite Realms and ghost/halfa biology.

«Getting to know... more... thoroughly?» With the amount of time they've spent together and how much they now know each other, it was inevitable that they would develop feelings.

Dan, for his part, doesn't make any move regarding his feelings for fear of ruining his friendship with Bart, who has known him since before— knows what he did, and still gave him a second chance.

For Bart's part, at this point he's already forgotten what his original goal was in getting close to Dan. One day, true to his style, he simply gets carried away in the moment and...

«Very... thoroughly.» This is the aftermath of the kiss. What more explanation do you need?
