a/n: first post... on here... a bit scared...... but i love jaehee, so this is for the loml <3
you and jaehee arenât close.
heâs the kind of guy everyone knows, even if theyâve never talked to him. smart, good-looking without trying, talented in just about everything he touches. the type whoâs always surrounded by people, part of sionâs clique, the loudest and brightest stars in the school.
he walks the halls like he owns them, smiles like he knows the effect he has, and somehow still manages to look annoyingly humble about it all.
you, on the other hand, are content staying out of the spotlight. youâd rather sit in the back of the classroom, sketching absentmindedly in your notebook or staring out the window, than be anywhere near the kind of social whirlwind jaehee lives in. the two of you have never spoken. not once. not even a âheyâ in passing.
still, youâd be lying if you said youâve never noticed him.
how could you not? the way he laughsâcarefree and warm, like heâs never had to fake it. the way his hair falls into his eyes when heâs focused, or how he always holds the door open for others without making a big deal out of it.
you wouldnât call it a crush, not really. just a little eye candy. something harmless to look at when the school day drags on.
when your homeroom teacher announced the class field trip to the amusement park, you didnât expect much. you figured itâd be a day of avoiding crowds, sticking close to your tiny circle of friends, and maybe trying a few rides if the lines werenât too bad. nothing life-changing.
but as the days ticked down, the buzz in class grew louder.
everyone was talking about itâwhat they were going to buy, who theyâd sit with on the bus, which roller coasters they were going to hit first. there were whispers of outfit matching and âaccidentalâ pair-ups. even the shyest students were making plans.
you listened from the sidelines, quietly amused by the excitement. it felt like everyone had a role already, a scene they were stepping into. you were content staying in the background, maybe tagging along for some cotton candy, maybe hiding in the arcade when things got overwhelming.
the day of the trip finally arrives, warm and golden with early sunlight, the kind that makes everything feel just a little more exciting. the parking lot outside the school buzzes with energyâpeople laughing, comparing snacks, snapping blurry photos while they wait for the bus doors to open.
thereâs a nervous kind of giddiness in the air, the kind that only comes with the promise of skipping class and spending the day somewhere far from routine.
you stand quietly near the edge of the group, backpack slung over your shoulder, watching the way the morning light hits the pavement. yoonchae nudges your arm gently, pulling you back to the present.
âare you sure youâre okay sitting alone?â she asks, brows drawn with a hint of concern. her other hand is already looped around meganâs arm.
you smile at her, soft and reassuring. âiâll be okay. seriously.â
she studies you for a second longer, then nods. âokay. but text me if someone weird sits next to you.â
you huff out a laugh. ânoted.â
the teacher starts calling everyone to board, clipboard in hand, and thereâs a shuffle as students start climbing up the steps. youâre somewhere in the middle of the line, and when you finally step onto the bus, the cool blast of the AC hits your face.
you glance around and immediately spot an empty seat near the back, by the windowâperfect.
you slide in, settling your bag at your feet, already turning your face to the glass as the world outside continues to blur with movement. you can hear the low murmur of conversations all around, laughter echoing faintly from the front, and yoonchae and meganâs voices chatting just in front of you.
you donât expect anyone to sit next to you. honestly, youâre kind of looking forward to the solitude.
that is, until you hear someone clear their throat.
you blink, turning your headâonly for your breath to hitch just slightly when you see jaehee standing there, backpack slung over one shoulder, a hand gripping the seat.
he gives you a hesitant, almost sheepish smile, his voice casual but a little too careful. âis anyone sitting here?â
you shake your head automatically, heart skipping a beat. âno. go ahead.â
he slides in beside you, the space between your arms almost non-existent in the tight bus seat. his leg brushes yours, warm even through the fabric, and you try not to stiffen. your fingers twitch slightly on your lap.
âi thought youâd sit with your friends or something,â you say, the words out before you can stop them.
jaehee chuckles, reaching up to ruffle his hair, like heâs trying to laugh off how awkward he feels. âriku said heâs sitting with someone else. totally ditched me.â
you hum, trying not to focus too hard on the way his shoulder leans just a little toward yours. âyou couldâve sat with anyone.â
he tilts his head, eyes on you now. âwhy? do i make you uncomfortable?â
you turn to face him fully, eyes wide. âwhat?! no!â you shake your head quickly, cheeks heating. âi just⊠didnât expect you to sit here, thatâs all.â
he watches you for a second, like heâs trying to figure you out. then he smiles, a little more confident this time. âexpect the unexpected.â
you laugh under your breath, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear. thereâs a beat of silenceâcomfortable, but chargedâand you reach into your pocket, searching for something.
your fingers come up empty.
âugh,â you mutter.
jaehee glances over. âsomething wrong?â
âi think i forgot my earphones,â you sigh, leaning back against the seat. âguess iâll just stare out the window dramatically for the next hour.â
he grins, pulling his own earphones from his pocket and holding them out to you. âwe could share,â he says, eyes bright with something unspoken.
you look at him, surprised, heart fluttering at the simplicity of the offerâand how close he suddenly feels.
âonly if youâre okay with me judging your playlist,â you tease, reaching for one of the buds.
âfair,â jaehee laughs, handing one over, your fingers brushing for a brief second too long.
as the bus rumbles to life and pulls away from the school, you settle into your seat with one earbud in, your shoulder barely brushing his. outside the window, the world blurs past in streaks of sun and motion.
when you step off the bus, the air hits you like a rush of freedomâwarm, sweet, and humming with the scent of popcorn and something deep-fried. you stretch your limbs, arms high above your head, shaking off the stiffness from the ride.
all around you, students are laughing, forming little groups, already pointing excitedly at roller coasters twisting through the sky.
your teacher stands at the front of the group, trying to wrangle everyoneâs attention with a loud clap. âalright, listen up! stay in groups, donât wander off alone, and for the love of all things holy, donât do anything thatâll get the school banned from coming back!â
a few kids laugh. someone whoops. the moment feels light, buzzing.
youâre about to follow the flow of people heading toward the park entrance when you hear your name.
ây/n!â
you turn on instinct, blinking as jaehee jogs up to you, a little breathless, like heâd been debating whether to say anything at all. his hair's slightly windblown from the bus ride, his backpack slung haphazardly over one shoulder, and for a second, he looks less like the golden boy everyone admires and more like a regular teenagerânervous, hopeful, real.
âuh,â he starts, rubbing the back of his neck. âiâif you donât mind⊠do you wanna hang out with me today?â
you stare at him for a beat too long, brain struggling to catch up. the background noise of your classmates seems to fade out a little, replaced with the thundering of your own heartbeat.
did jaehee just
you clear your throat quickly, hoping you donât sound as flustered as you feel. âsure. i donât mind.â
his eyes light up instantly, and itâs so obviousâso bright and boyishâit knocks the air out of you for a second. he looks like a puppy who just got told heâs a good boy.
you giggle, trying to hide how much your heart is doing somersaults. âwe should get headbands to start off,â you say, voice playful. âyou canât go to an amusement park without something ridiculous on your head.â
he laughs, more relaxed now, and lets you tug him toward the gift shop just near the entrance. the door chimes as you step inside, the air cool and filled with the scent of cheap candy and fabric softener. shelves are lined with silly accessoriesâglittery devil horns, floppy bunny ears, headbands with bouncy antennae and neon flowers.
you glance at him over your shoulder, already grinning. âpick your poison.â
he raises an eyebrow. âyouâre not going to choose for me?â
âyouâre brave enough to ask me to hang out. you can handle picking a headband.â
he chuckles under his breath, and for a second, your fingers brush as you reach for the same headbandâa pair of soft puppy ears. you both pause, and you feel the air shift, just slightly. the kind of moment that lingers longer than it should.
âwe could match,â he offers, voice a little softer now, his eyes on yours.
you look down at the ears in your hand, then back at him. âmatching puppy ears. thatâs dangerously close to couple-core.â
jaehee tilts his head, lips curving into something playful. âis that a bad thing?â
your heart skips. you donât answer. not really.
you just hand him the second pair.
the two of you shuffle up to the counter, mid-argument about who should payâjaehee dramatically clutching his chest like youâve just insulted his honor, and you insisting itâs only fair to split.
âabsolutely not,â he says, already fishing his wallet out like itâs a race against time. before you can protest, he slaps the cash down like heâs winning a game show.
you sigh, defeated but amused. âfine. next time, iâm paying. no arguments.â
âmmm, weâll see,â jaehee says with a cheeky grin, adjusting his headband like itâs some sort of crown. ânow then⊠where to, my loyal sidekick?â
you snort. âloyal sidekick?"
âexactly,â he chirps, skipping ahead like this was all part of his master plan.
the dayâs a blur of rides and sugarâjaehee whining about the rollercoasters like they personally offended him, until you bribe him with snacks. lots of snacks. enough to feed a small village. or a very ambitious picnic.
âyouâre evil,â he says, halfway through a corn dog. âyou love it,â you grin, handing him a drink like the enabler you are.
by 4:30, your phone buzzes with a teacherâs message: be back by 5 or suffer unspecified consequences. so, with sticky fingers and stuffed pockets, the two of you start to wander aimlessly, cotton candy in hand.
âjaehee,â you say through a mouthful of sugar, your words slightly muffled.
he hums in response, licking powdered sugar off his thumb.
âwhyâd you hang out with me today?â
he freezes, like someone just paused his internal wifi. a faint pink creeps up his neck.
he clears his throat and mutters something that sounds like... a dying bee?
âsorry, what?â you ask, lips twitching into a smile at the sight of flustered jaehee, who is now aggressively pretending to be very interested in the ground.
you canât help itâhe looks so much like a kicked puppy that your heart actually squeezes.
âi thought,â he starts, louder now, âthat this would be a good chance.â
you blink. âa good chance for whatâ?â
he exhales like heâs about to perform surgery. âi like you, y/n.â
you stop dead in your tracks. blink once. twice.
meanwhile, jaehee is firmly looking anywhere but at you. the sky. a trash bin. the back of his own hand.
you let out a soft chuckle and reach over, slipping your hand into his. jaeheeâs breath hitchesâhis eyes dart down like heâs making sure itâs realâand for a second, he looks like he might just pass out right then and there.
but then, slowly, he laces his fingers with yours, his lips curling into the tiniest, sweetest smile. the air between you shiftsâlighter and brighter, like something new and soft has finally settled in place.
you walk back toward the main plaza, still hand-in-hand, your steps a little slower now. neither of you says anything, but the silence is comfortableâlike walking inside a shared secret.
you spot a photo booth tucked beside a drink stall, the kind with faded stickers on the side and flashing LED hearts around the frame.
âhey,â you nudge him, nodding toward it. âwanna take a picture?â
jaehee hesitates, eyes flicking between you and the booth like it might swallow him whole. but then he nods, cheeks a little pink. âonly if youâre in it with me.â
inside, itâs cramped and warm, the kind of warm that makes your knees bump and shoulders touch. youâre quicker this time, sliding a coin into the slot before jaehee can even reach for his wallet.
the first picture catches you both mid-laugh, heads thrown back, joy written all over your faces. the second is a disasterâjaehee blinks too early and ends up with one eye half-open. the third is softer: you're leaning into each other, grinning, your cheeks still pink but your eyes bright.
and the fourthâhe turns his head to look at you just as the camera flashes, catching him mid-gaze, eyes full of something you canât quite name but feel all the same.
when you step out, your hands brush as you reach for the photo strip. you both go for the same corner, fingers barely touching, but the way your hands linger says everything.
âwe look good,â you murmur, eyes scanning the tiny photos.
jaehee glances over, voice a little quieter. âwe look like a couple.â
you smile, tilting your head toward him. âmaybe thatâs âcause we kinda are now.â
he looks at you, really looks at you, and then he laughs, soft and breathless, like heâs been holding it in for hours. âi canât believe you said it first.â
you laugh too. âyou confessed first.â
he shakes his head, the grin on his face wide and a little helpless. âweâre a mess.â
âa cute mess,â you correct.
and right there, under the golden light of a setting sun and the flickering neon hearts, he leans inânot quite a kiss, not yetâbut his forehead rests gently against yours.
and it feels like the start of something really, really good.

You had promised yourself you wouldnât be shy around your boyfriend this morning. Sleeping over in the same bed as your boyfriend for the first time since you had started dating was definitely a step forward in your relationship, but you were determined to make the step as natural and seamless as possible. There was no need to make a big deal out of it. You had been dating for several months now; you were more than passed the flustered stage. Waking up in his arms shouldnât affect you that much, right?Â
It had been nice being able to talk in soft whispers with Daeyoung until you fell asleep snuggled against his chest. You often felt lonely in your apartment at night, so you would FaceTime him until one of you fell asleep on call. But actually falling asleep in his arms was infinitely better than just seeing him on your phone screen.
His warm breath, deep but soft voice, soothing scent, and beautiful face being the last thing you felt, heard, smelled, and saw was something your brain would never forget. For it being your first time sleeping over, it had definitely been nothing short of perfect.
But now you had a predicament. You felt more nervous to open your eyes than you had anticipated. Would he already be awake? What if he was staring at you with that lovesick expression he always wore? You were sure you would be as bright as a tomato if he was.Â
You could still feel the warmth of his body, and his left arm wrapped gently around your waist. He was awfully still, so you werenât sure if he was awake yet or not. Wanting to find out, you slowly opened your eyes, preparing yourself for a sight that would almost certainly make you fall in love all over again.
And it did.
Daeyoung had never told you that he wore glasses in the morning before putting in his contacts. In fact, you had never seen him wear glasses at all during your relationship. You always planned when to meet up, so he had time to get ready properly, including switching out his glasses for the much less noticeable vision correctors.Â
You were vaguely aware that he owned a pair, but asking him to model them for you hadnât ever been a thought on your mind. Daeyoung was already hot, so naturally, you had never thought of how much hotter he might look with glasses. Well, you knew now. The black framed glasses paired with his sleepy pout and messy bed head was probably the most adorable and attractive sight you had ever woken up to. Once he saw that you had opened your eyes, he smiled, suppressing a yawn as he mumbled out a good morning. God, his morning voice.
Yes, you had promised yourself that you wouldnât be shy around your boyfriend this morning. And you were utterly failing at that task. Nervous butterflies were fluttering like crazy in your stomach, and your face already felt hot from just the close distance of you two.
âDid you sleep well?â Daeyoung whispered. You could feel his fingers fiddling with the hem of your T-shirt, smoothly slipping under the fabric to stroke your warm skin.
âYouâreâŠâ You started talking in a daze, not even realising what you were about to say until you saw Daeyoung raise his eyebrow.
âHm?â
âYouâre wearing glasses.â You whispered, burying your face in the pillow to hide your embarrassment. Although, you were unable to take your eyes off your boyfriend.
âYeahâŠ? Whyâd you mention it?â He questioned sleepily. You cleared your throat, hoping he would drop the inquiry, but he seemed focused on waiting until you answered him.
âThey look hotâ you, you look hot.â You muttered, stumbling over your words the longer you looked at him wearing those glasses, your brain entirely short-circuiting.Â
Daeyoung smiled, âIs that why youâre so shy this morning?â
âNoâ no, actually, I was never awake in the first place. See, Iâm asleep still.â You whispered hurriedly, shutting your eyes tightly and earning a giggle from your boyfriend. You felt him brush your hair off of your forehead and press a kiss to the skin once he had access. Your breath caught in your throat. Why was everything that he normally did flustering you so much this morning?
âY/n?â He whispered, making you open your eyes again. He gave you a lazy smile, the same hand that had brushed your hair moving to the side of your face, cupping your cheek, stroking your cheekbone.
There was something mesmerising about Daeyoung wrapped up in the blankets, glasses over his sleepy eyes, the sun just starting to shine through the window onto his face, his cute lips that you wanted to kiss so badly, imagining how soft they would feel early in the morning.
His hand shifted from your face, trailing down your arm until it reached your waist. From there, he pulled you closer to his body, trapping you there with his leg. There was nothing stopping you from kissing him now that the distance between you two was almost nonexistent. And, you were getting shier by the second under his eyes, so you were quick to press your lips to his instead.
Daeyoung gasped at your sudden action, but was quick to melt into the kiss, pulling you ever closer, heart warmed by his love for you. He made a mental note to wear glasses more often, quite liking the outcome of it despite having discovered it accidentally.Â
Mornings like this were perfect, he decided. He knew the natural progression of a relationship was a delicate thing, but he was starting to wonder why he had never asked you to sleep over before this. He couldnât even count how many mornings it would have saved him from missing your presence more than life. You felt the same way, finding the opportunity to wake up in Daeyoungâs arms too good to pass up again.Â
