“dadda?”

flopped onto the couch, you hear kenma groan at the interruption, face burying deeper into the cushions. kenma doesn’t get much sleep when maesi is around. spending his nights streaming and his days in business meetings and marketing strategies run him fairly dry, and your poor husband can’t always catch the breaks he needs and deserves.

and judging by the way maesi is patting his shoulder, it seems that the struggle will continue.

“maesi,” you say softly. “what is it?”

“dadda,” she ignores you. “apple.”

“what about the apple, sweetheart?” you ask, reaching your hand out to try and find the source of the problem. “would you like it cut up?”

“no,” your two year old denies, continuing to tap kenma on the arm. “dadda dood it.”

“no, mumma will do it-“

“what do you need daddy to do?” kenma asks, yawning softly. maesi squeals excitedly and stomps her tiny feet, the slippers she’s wearing muffling some of the joy she’s experiencing. he turns his head, blinking sleepily at his child before smiling softly at her zealousness. “what’s up, muffin?”

“dadda,” she repeats. “dadda, noisinus.”

kenma buries his face into the cushions and lets out a string of laughter, shoulders shaking as he understands what his child is asking for. a weak hand extends out for the apple, fingers beckoning for it. maesi giggles and passes her father the apple, both of them not even a little phased by your confusion.

kenma takes a bite of the apple, the soft crunch of his teeth sinking into the fruit making your head tip in intrigue. he’s not cutting it for her?

kenma chews for a moment, looking up to the sky in thought before passing the apple back to his daughter, “not poisonous.”

you snort and shake your head softly.

“tanks, dadda!” she says, tiny feet toddling to the other corner of the room, filled with toys and books for her to keep occupied with.

you plop yourself onto the couch next to kenma, laughing softly as he creeps his way into your lap. “poison?”

“you remember when i stole a bite of her lunch and she got mad at me?”

“yeah?”

“well-“ kenma yawns softly before smacking his lips. “i told her i had to make sure it wasn’t poisonous. now, before she eats anything, she makes me take a bite.”

you shake your head, “so everything she eats, you take a bite of?”

Kenma hates strollers. Do you know how hard those things are to open and close??? Take out of cars and on trains?? Maneuver them over stairs?? Yeah, fuck that.

Carrying the baby around in car seat will hurt his arms and being out for hours and holding the baby in his arms will also give him arm cramps.

Solution? Strap on that carrier and wear that bitch (affectionately).

It's literally the easiest option and most practical, especially for quick outings. It also leaves your hands free?? Like, bro can walk around with the baby on his chest while playing a game on his phone. He doesn't have to worry about accidentally running the stroller into a lamppost cause he was distracted.

He has no idea why more people don't do it. He honestly thinks men who don't do it because it's embarrassing or not "masculine" are just stupid as fuck cause they are making their lives so much harder for no reason lmaoo.

Maybe 15 year old Kenma who dyed his hair after Yamamoto said he looked like Sadako would care. But, grown ass man Kenma? CEO, professional gamer, streamer, rich boy Kenma? Kenma with a partner and child? Bro does not give a fuck. He losses so much sleep over this baby, you think he's gonna lose more of his own personal time cause he's busy fucking with a stroller? Nope, and anyone who chooses others is just dumb in his mind.

The people at Bouncing Ball Corp. were not used to seeing Kenma, and even less his son, Yukio. So when he walked in wearing a suit, toddler strapped to his chest like an accessory, his secretary wasn’t sure if he should mention it or not.

“Good morning, sir. It’s nice to see you! Both of you!”

“Morning,” Kenma grumbled, frustrated with how Yukio kept pulling on the hair that wasn’t tucked into the half-up hairstyle he lazily made that morning. “What’s the first appointment?”

The young man cleared his throat and looked at his computer screen, clicking around before looking back up. “Kuroo is holding that presentation for the investors on your collaboration.”

“Right. I’ll be late for that.”

“I don’t think he’ll like-“

“He can wait, tell him to stall the investors.”

The secretary made a squeaky sound, nervously tapping his finger on the desk. Minutes before this, he had shown all the investors to the meeting room, and they did not seem like a particularly agreeable bunch. “Are you sure there is nothing I can help you with to get you there on time, sir?”

“I don’t think you want to solve this problem,” Kenma insisted, pointing at the toddler’s lower half.

Just as Kenma said it, the odour of baby poop drifted towards him, making the secretary close his mouth insistently and try not to breathe it in. Instead, he nodded frantically and held two thumbs up, letting Kenma go on towards the elevator up to his office.

Life didn’t pause just because you had a baby...

Classes kept going. Assignments kept coming. The group chats still pinged with memes and updates about school drama you didn’t have the energy to keep up with.

You and Kenma were still just fifteen/sixteen—first-years with uniforms that didn’t quite fit, classmates who didn’t quite understand, and teachers who tried their best not to stare at the empty chair beside Kenma on the days you had to stay home.

Your daughter was barely a month old when Kenma started bringing her up in passing to the guys on the volleyball team. Not in a dramatic way—just casually mentioning “we didn’t sleep last night” or “I have to go pick up diapers after this.”

Kuroo was the first to really get it, offering to cover for Kenma when he was late or too exhausted to run full drills. Yaku didn’t say much, but his snacks started including extras.

Some days were… manageable.

Kenma would walk over after school with his backpack half-zipped and a bento box his mom had packed for you both. He’d let you nap while he held the baby, sometimes with a controller awkwardly balanced on his knee. You’d wake up to the soft click of buttons and the sight of your daughter asleep on his chest, his eyes half-closed, his game paused at a save point.

But other days?

You’d stare at your textbook while rocking her with one foot and wonder how the hell you were supposed to write an essay when your brain felt like pudding. The house smelled like formula and baby wipes. Your phone buzzed with texts from classmates: “Are u coming to the karaoke night?” “Did u do the chem worksheet?” “Are u guys even still together lol?”

You wanted to go out. You wanted to be normal. You wanted a night to just exist without leaking boobs or burp cloths.

Once, just once, you did go out—with Kenma, for an hour, while your mom watched the baby. You got bubble tea. You sat on a bench and didn’t talk about diapers. You held hands like kids again. And it made you cry.

Because you missed that version of you—the one who didn’t have to check the time, or worry if she’d wake up crying while you were gone.

Kenma noticed. He always noticed.

He kissed your knuckles and said quietly, “It’s okay to miss it. I do too.”

You both stared ahead, sipping in silence.

Then you went home early.

Because love wasn’t enough to stop time. But it was enough to keep going—hour by hour, diaper by diaper, quiz by quiz.

And somehow, you were still here.

The Littlest Setter. (friends meeting the baby)

It was supposed to be a normal afternoon.

Kenma had rushed out the door right after school, mumbling something about not being late for warmups again. You had barely finished buttoning up the baby’s soft jumper when you realized:

His kneepads were still sitting on your floor.

You texted him.

You laughed quietly and looked down at your daughter, strapped snugly to your chest in her tiny carrier, her eyes blinking slow and content.

“Well,” you said. “Let’s go see your dad’s second family.”

The gym smelled like effort and sweat. The kind only teenage boys could make this potent.

You stepped in quietly, cradling the kneepads in one hand and keeping the other gently around the baby’s back. She was wide-eyed, taking everything in with that curious frown Kenma sometimes made.

The team was mid-warmup.

Kuroo spotted you first.

He blinked. Then his jaw dropped slightly.

“Wait—”

Yaku turned just as Kuroo called out, grinning. “Kenmaaa~ your girls are here!”

Kenma, who’d been stretching with Yamamoto, turned toward the door. His face went pale for a second, then flushed red.

“Oh my god,” he muttered. “She’s so tiny,” yamamoto said, awestruck.

You held up the kneepads. “He left these.”

Kenma jogged over quickly, eyes flicking to the baby strapped against you.

“She okay?” he whispered.

You nodded. “She just woke up from a nap. You forgot to kiss her goodbye.” He looked sheepish. He gently touched her small head, fingers brushing over her soft hat.

“Hi,” he murmured. “Sorry I ran out.”

She made a tiny sound—a sort of sleepy ehhh noise—and Yaku nearly dropped his water bottle.

“Is that her voice?!” he whispered, like she was some ancient forest creature.

“Do not wake her up,” you warned, only half-joking...

Kuroo crept closer, clearly holding back a grin. “So this is the youngest Nekoma setter, huh?”

“Temporary substitute,” Kenma muttered, hand still on her head protectively.

“She’s got your eyes,” Yamamoto noted. “But her whole expression is like kenma's.”

“She looks kinda done with all of us,” Yaku added. “A very Kenma trait.”

shohei leaned in slowly. “Can I… can I hold her?”

Kenma gave you a look like please say no, but you smirked and carefully unstrapped the baby from the carrier.

“She just ate. No sudden movements.”

Shohei held her like she was made of gold. His face lit up. “She’s so warm!”

Yamamoto peered over his shoulder. “Look at her tiny hands. Bro. She’s making a fist. She’s ready to punch.”

“Her spikes would probably have more aim than yours,” Yaku said dryly.

“Shut up—!”

The baby blinked slowly at the chaos. Then let out a quiet sigh and went back to sleep against Shohei’s chest.

Kenma stood beside you now, half an arm’s length away, watching his teammates surround the baby like she was some mystical creature they’d summoned from a manga.

“She’s safe,” you whispered, like you knew what he was thinking.

He nodded slowly.

“…They’re not so bad,” he said.

You laughed. “They love her.”

“She’s cooler than me.”

“She drooled on your controller last week.”

“Still cooler.”

You bumped his shoulder with yours, and for a second, you both just stood there—tired, still healing, still adjusting—but okay. In the middle of a gym full of idiots and old volleyballs, it felt like something soft had settled in.

LATE NIGHT GIGGLES

pairing: dad!kenma x reader

it's been a long night, the house is quiet and kenma had just finished a very long stream. he looks over to his computer to see his game pending an update. bored with nothing to do, he ponders over what he can do to pass time and decides to go over to your shared bedroom

getting up from his gaming chair, he sighs as he looks at the time 1:28am. you've been married to kenma for almost two years but have been living together for four years, you're used to this and you've always supported kenma and his career but you've also been very concerned at how much time he spends staying up

kenma opens the door and makes his way to the bedroom, careful not to bump into something since the lights are off. once he navigates himself through the dark and to your bedroom, he hears very loud cries coming from the bedroom beside yours

and the source of those cries are from no other than the beautiful baby girl you had with kenma 3 months ago. kenma makes his way towards the bawls of your baby from her room and turns on the light, he goes towards her crib and is met with her tear-stricken face

“what's wrong sweetheart?” he says, kenma hates to see his baby girl all sad

nevertheless, she can only say a few babbles and can't answer her father's question. kenma thinks he should go and get you but he's been so busy lately that he hasn't had the time to take care of her, he wants to make up for it and do his job as her dad

he checks her diaper but it isn't full yet, he goes to the kitchen to make a bottle but she doesn't seem to be hungry either. ‘what could be the problem?’ he thinks to himself. she starts to giggle and now kema's just thinking she's messing with him, so he takes her back to her room and places her on her crib but it looks like she's about to cry again.

he's thinking that maybe he should take her to you so he can get back to his game but at the same time you've been so tired from taking care of her all the time that maybe a good night's sleep is just what you need

kenma decides to just take her to his gaming room instead. the update seems to be finished so he decided to open the game, some good old fashioned minecraft. he starts making a house and puts flowers around it, much to his daughter's delight

she starts to giggle again and makes grabby hands towards the mouse, kenma taking it as a notion that she wants to play with him

it's cute, he thinks, but she can't really play video games with her. though he does hope that once she is old enough she will also take up an interest in video games and want to play and be like her dad. but for now, the most she can do is watch him mine for diamonds or shoot arrows at mobs

and that's totally fine with him, after all, he gets to spend time with his baby girl anyways
