Giant Cyanide Cloud Discovered Over Saturn's Moon, Titan
Saturn's moon, Titan, has a giant cloud of toxic gas called cyanide. Titan's atmosphere is very similar to that of the Earth according to researchers. Currently the cloud is about the size of Egypt, or about 180 miles. Researchers first noticed the cloud back in 2012, however its composition was not determined until now. Researchers hope that this new discovery will lead to some explanations into how our own planet was formed! This would be great information to share with students.
There are so many ways this could be discussed during science class. Students could continue to follow the story and see what new developments are made throughout the year. As teachers, we need to make sure we help our students be well-informed citizens as well as understand how important this is. To be functioning citizens of society, one must be involved and aware of what is going on around them.
