I've been playing a bunch of EDH format in magic lately, and it's gotten me thinking about how to go about adapting it into Yugioh! I've gotten a ruleset together that I think is pretty balanced! I'm currently testing without any banlist at all, which sounds scarier than it is, since it's potentially a 4 player environment. With all that said, here's what I'm calling the Deck Master Revised Ruleset!
DECKBUILDING
1) All deck master decks are composed of 60 cards, one of which is the deck master and starts in the deck master zone. The remaining 59 are shuffled into the main deck.
2) No more than one copy of each card is allowed, with the following exceptions, which are each allowed at 3 copies:
-Normal monsters
-Monsters which interact with other copies of themselves
3) Any main deck monster with a level of 5 or higher may be used as a deck master
4) All monsters in a main deck must share a type and/or attribute with the deck master. If the deck master is part of an archetype, all monsters in that archetype may also be included.
PLAYING THE GAME
1) Each player begins the duel with 12,000 life points
2) This format can be played by 2-4 people.
3) If a game has 3 or more players, each player will draw during their first draw phase of the game
4) If a game has 3 or more players, then only the last player in the turn order will have a battle phase on their first turn
5) Cards which apply an effect to both players now applies that effect to all players
6) Cards which apply an effect only to your opponent now apply to one target opponent
7) Summoning conditions and continuous effects which refer to your opponent now refer to any opponent.
8) If there are an even number of players, extra monster zones work the same as normal, corresponding to the players opposite each other.
9) If there are an odd number of players, the first 2 players to summon a monster to the extra monster zone form a pair. The odd party out may choose either of their extra monster zones as if neither is occupied.
USING YOUR DECK MASTER
1) While in your deck master zone, you may tribute summon your deck master, ignoring its summoning conditions. You may also activate any effects your deck master could activate in the hand, as well as fulfill any native summoning conditions you could normally use to summon it.
2) Any time your deck master moves from one zone to another, you may immediately return it to your deck master zone, ignoring any effects which would prevent this. If you do, the next time you move it from the deck master zone, one tribute of a monster on your side of the field is added to the summoning requirement or cost to activate an effect.
Let me know what you think, and thanks for reading! 💖
